SIGISMUND III’S PASSING

On this 11th of Vzmey and Hyff, 426 E.S., our Koeng, Sigismund III, passed away. He had long been suffering from an illness that had been eating away at his body and his strength, though he retained the strong will and heart that were a staple of his reign throughout the entirety of it.

 

In a show of defiance to the illness which sought to slowly kill him, Sigismund III attended his own vigil, where the people had gathered in prayer for the ill Koeng. Upon his arrival, he challenged Ser Walton to a duel, and the two clashed swords briefly. The outcome was that which Sigismund had desired, a death not at the hands of his illness, but one of honour at the hand of one of our Kingdom’s most dutiful and chivalrous Knights, who served our Koeng one last time.

 

I have no doubt that Sigismund has written himself into the annals of history forevermore, for he has thrust upon our Kongzem a golden age, one in which we have stood victorious in a war of unseen proportions on this continent, and one where the Kongzem has seen sizeable growth in government and domestic affairs.

 

A funeral service shall be held for Koeng Sigismund III on the 6th of Tov and Yermey. All of our Kongzem are implored to attend to honour our Koeng one last time, as we see him off into the Seven Skies.

PALATIAL RESIGNATION

For twenty-four years, I have served as Lord Palatine of the Realm. As soon as my appointment had been made, our Kongzem was dragged into a continental conflict that would span the majority of my tenure in this position. From the evacuation of High Pontiff Everard VI, to countless battles fought across the continent, I was there for it.

 

To have stood as Lord Palatine alongside Sigismund was one of the greatest pleasures of my life. He was one of my closest friends, my brother-in-law, and my Koeng. The conversations that Sigismund and I had about affairs of the realm are ones that I will remember fondly, but there is also a time to pass on the torch.

 

As I told my daughter recently, life is full of choices. I had, when I was younger, convinced myself that I had to do things out of duty and of obligation, but I have in my older years realised that that is a lie. Duty is not real, it is a tool we use to convince ourselves that there is no choice, that the decision is not ours to make. This could not be any further from the truth.

 

I have made my choice. Karl III takes the throne now, and he stands as the torchbearer of his generation, ushering it in with him. I am not to stand in the way of this new generation, for I have seen them grow from children into men and women, and I have my utmost faith in their generation to continue down the path that Sigismund, I, and so many others, have paved.

 

Therefore, I tender my resignation as Lord Palatine of Hanseti-Ruska.

 

I hold no regrets.
