Creature Submissions

This thread covers both normal and event-only Creatures and the formatting required for them.

What Is It?

A Creature is a submission that is reserved for both player and story events alongside day to day roleplay. These creatures can range from simple critters that fill out the world and ecosystem, even providing minor flavor roleplay, to full-scale beasts reserved for event-only useage. This sort of submission can have high levels of power or abilities as they are meant to be event only, or even be harmless and just fun worldbuilding.

Bear in mind that if your creature/race is considered rather powerful, it will likely be locked to ST only (if not intended as so) to prevent it from being abused as other creatures have been in the past.

It’s advised, if making an ST-only creature, to make ones geared towards event-play as a result. There’s a difference between prolonged, daily roleplay and events catered by the ST, even with heavy roleplay or non-combat events. Weaknesses are also advised, especially for monsters or entities meant for combat roleplay, so that an exploitable quality of them can be used by the players interacting with them in the event to defeat them. They generally should be defeatable by a group at least.

Consider when creating creatures that do not require ST, that they should not be tameable or useable in combat unless following the General Criteria on Pets & Summons. Consider how much roleplay your creature is adding to the server too- in almost every circumstance, "clan specific animals" such as the Lur Wolf or Ker Wolf (lots of wolves, really) just provided super-majestic super-perfect flawless combat beasts which made most combat roleplay just 2v1's against a hyper-intelligent direwolf and the person fighting alongside them. Please be tasteful, and please consider how much a pet may actually add to the server, and how much fairness it adds in all facets of roleplay.

Creatures can be considered event-only races of people (Ironborn, Ratiki, Mori-Quessir) to creatures like Karins, Bokolos, Ratiki, or Screowls.

Formatting

There are no special formats specifically for this, but we ask you use the following as references when writing your race/creature. Event actors do not need to conform to the normal lore standards, but it is still helpful to flesh out your piece and give the actors an idea of what they are utilizing. Things such as culture and how the creature/race act are things that an actor would need to be aware of, but when it comes to things such as abilities it can have more leeway.

If your piece is for an event race, this here is a good reference. If your piece is for an event creature, this here is a good reference. Use [Event Race] or [Event Creature] in your forum thread title to distinguish what it is.

Format

This formatting is meant to be used for proposed Creature lore pieces. Be sure to include pictures and reference art if you can, since they help greatly with immersion and reading!!

Thread Title

The thread title should be: [Creature Lore] - [Name of Creature]. For example, Creature Lore – Bokolos

Origin/Background/Culture

Lore written here should be focusing on the background of the creature and their place within the world, and how it came to be.

Creature Summary

Describe here the characteristics of the creature, in all aspects. Physical capability, mental capability, what they do in an ecosystem, do they have any quirks on nesting, or activity, or even simple biological anomalies? Do they interact with other lore in some manner, or do they play a role in something greater from another lorepiece? What environment are they from, what purpose do they serve there? What are their strengths and weaknesses? Lay out all the interesting and uninteresting facts and information about your creature so they could be comprehensively understood.

Taming

Reserved for either Non-Combat or Creatures following General Criteria: Creatures and Summons, this section covers an explanation on how you tame and upkeep these creatures, and how they may change becoming tame or domesticated.

ST Notes/Abilities

For creatures with Story Team use in mind, write here abnormal abilities this creature might have that are for story team useage in events. Avoid "Swipe" or "Bash" like abilities, and more toward their abnormal characteristics. Do they have an acidic breath, or can they magic of some kind? Do they regenerate damage well, or do they inject venom when they bite?

General Red lines/Restrictions

This is where you list general red lines of the creature, such as ways they can/cannot be used. Please consider writing in redlines regarding what could be abused about this creature, such as venom harvesting, weaponizing certain body parts, and so on. In general, stick to at best, "Iron-Strength" bodyparts for most creatures and that you cannot collect venom or poison. Consder as well taming and combat redlines, such as if your creature flees or is only functional as a mount in combat.

Repeat (OPTIONAL)

Add here if you are making different creature types that should be noted, or subtypes/evolutions that should be noted.

Purpose (OOC)

This section is where you describe what purpose your lore is serving, what it is bringing to the table that other lore pieces aren’t, and why it fits into LotC’s canon.

Citation Spoiler

You should have a spoiler at the bottom that includes links to any lore pieces that you referenced or based your lore submission off of.
