Letter to Valyris Ibarellan

 

 

Haelun,

 

I write to you in good faith, and to announce my return to our homelands. Be it the grace of our ancestors, or your prayers for my safety on sail, I return in but a few tidal waves length; we shall have a longer conversation in person, I assure you. 

 

On my first day, the dread of isolation swept over me like a great tsunami. I sat upon the forepeak of the ship and looked out towards the endless ocean, until the continent of Almaris faded behind a thicket of clouds. 

 

In the years to come, I have matured overtime. To learn of the vast cultures and languages far away from our own; we are but small people in the scope of the magnificent world. Yet, it has not been without dangers. On nights, the sea was tranquil and illuminated a translucent green hue from odd sea-bed flora. And in other late hours, we heard the horrible squealing of sirens attempting to snap at the wood of our ship.

 

At a certain point, our ship crashed ashore strange lands made of blue soil, with plump mushrooms that rattled like the hind of a snake. I have seen fortune; lively men celebrating with tankards of ale. But in time, I have also witnessed death. 

 

Do not fret, Haelun. I pray in the night for your health, so that you may live to see my face again. 

 

We shall speak in person soon enough
