Balthasar 2497 Share Posted April 27, 2023 THE HOST OF SAINT ARPAD AFTER-ACTION REPORT: SCAVENGING WOLVES Issued and confirmed by the Count of Vaška, Jan Arpad Ivanovich, 2nd of Sun’s Smile, 1921. Dictated by Arpad Corvinus Ivanovich. TO OUR COMRADES, One Saint’s Day, as we write this, a small detachment captained by myself was dispatched from Florentine to investigate the howls of animals, missing foodstuffs and lastly the loss of baptised lives. The weather was temperate and the men were in good spirits. Reported by: Arpad Ivanovich Involved were: Arpad Ivanovich, veteran Kazak’s Felden Creech, Agathon Rhylan and newly inducted Straznik Žytomyr Volkov. A quick debriefing was held at the square of Florentine, equipment was checked and once fully prepared the men moved out. Moving towards the abandoned mine southwest of the city, however as we neared the mine, we were led astray. Howl's noised not far in the opposite direction of the mine. Fully alert, we advanced in the direction of the howls, intent on returning to the mine should our search for the howls be fruitless. A handful of minutes passed as we climbed the low hills and back down again, which is where we would encounter a singular wolf holding its ground. A fight ensued where the wolf pounced on Žytomyr, however, the rest of us were within two-sword lengths of Žytomyr and easily advanced and slew the wolf in unison. While we were occupied with the wolf another two had crawled from behind and were ready to pounce. Too late to effectively react, but not too late to result in major injuries. Žytomyr and Felden were locked in defence, unable to properly deal any damage. Once more the cohesion of our squad proved remarkable, myself and Agathon each attacked a wolf, Agathon going to help Žytomyr and I would go help Felden. One wolf was crushed and the other’s neck was cut wide, respectively. Daring not to fight us honourably, another two had snuck up on us from the left! One jumped on me and went straight for the neck, however, I would hold off the huge wolf until Felden helped me and killed it for me. All the while this was happening, the other wolf had overshot his jump, aiming for Felden but hitting Agathon. Žytomyr debated which man to help, me, the son of the count or Kazak Agathon. In the end, he did the right thing and helped Agathon, crushing the wolf with his warhammer! The pack of wolves had been slain and no more in the vicinity could be found. Covered in the blood of our enemies, we returned to Florentine to recuperate. I am satisfied with the conduct of the men, but I do not believe this is the end of the wolves. Another squad will be dispatched to secure the mine.
