Biography of Blessed Gerard Ouvrier

Born: 1921, The Sun’s Smile - Lemon Hill, Aaun
Died: 1972, The Grand Harvest - Whitespire, Aaun

Early Life

Gerard Ouvrier was born in 1921 to Margaux and Gaston Ouvrier in Lemon Hill, Aaun. The early years of his life were marked by hardship and loss. His mother died during childbirth, and his father’s subsequent descent into grief left Gerard and his brother, Rainier, in an orphanage. Despite these early struggles, Gerard’s resilient spirit guided him through adversity. He worked as a farmhand and later acquired his own farm, laying the foundation for a life dedicated to hardwork and patience.

The Path to Service

Gerard’s life took a transformative turn when he met Grandmaster Halston Veyont, who saw his potential and inducted him into the Holy Order of Saint Jude. His dedication to the Church grew stronger, leading to his swearing in as a Holy Knight under His Holiness, Sixtus VI in 1951. This pivotal moment marked the beginning of Gerard’s unwavering commitment to his faith and his mission to serve.

Service and Sacrifice

Throughout his life, Gerard demonstrated extraordinary courage and dedication. He faced numerous threats, from combatting darkspawn, to his unrelentless investigative efforts to reveal hidden dangers. His work uncovering and curing vampires, probing into the mysteries of the Cursed Children of Haense, and delving into the dark secrets of Hallowcliffe highlighted his relentless pursuit of justice and righteousness. His relationship with Aurelia Whitewood, though fraught with challenges, blossomed into a blessed union, culminating in a marriage sanctioned by His Holiness Caius Primus.

Legacy and Martyrdom

Gerard’s legacy is characterized by his unwavering service, piety, and ultimate sacrifice. As Grandmaster of the Holy Order of Saint Jude, he upheld his chivalric duties with steadfast resolve. Tragically, in 1972, Gerard fell victim to the Saulicians, bringing his earthly journey to a somber end. His death was a significant loss to both the Church and the realm.

Beatification

In 1978, Gerard was posthumously beatified by Pontifical decree, recognizing his profound devotion, heroic deeds, and ultimate sacrifice. His life and actions continue to inspire as a model of virtue and service. Gerard’s memory endures not only as a man of deep faith but also as a Knight of the Black Sepulcher, a symbol of valor and dedication for future generations.

‡  Miracles of Blessed Gerard

1. The Ripening of the Lemons

Date: 1943
Location: Lemon Hill, Aaun

Description:
In 1943, while walking the path towards the monastery in Lemon Hill, Gerard encountered a lemon tree whose fruit was still green and unripe. As Gerard approached, something extraordinary occurred: the lemons on the tree began to turn a bright yellow. They ripened before his very eyes and fell to the ground beside him as if time had accelerated their growth in mere seconds.

Witnesses who observed this phenomenon were astonished. The miracle was seen as a sign of GOD’s favor, manifesting through Gerard’s presence. The event was interpreted as a symbol of Gerard's spiritual influence and his close connection with GOD, capable of invoking miraculous changes in the natural world.

2. The Healing of Jurka

Date: 1956
Location: Church of the Exalted, Sakura-gakure

Description:
In 1956, Gerard returned to the Church of the Exalted where he discovered not only the body of Brother Aleksei but also a dying Jurka, who had suffered a grievous wound—a spear thrust through his torso. Recognizing the severity of the injury, Gerard swiftly transported Jurka to Sakura-gakure for medical treatment.

After performing surgery on Jurka, Gerard faced a grim situation: Jurka fell into a deep coma. Desperate for divine intervention, Gerard prayed fervently. His prayers were answered when, miraculously, Jurka awoke from his coma, his life restored. The event was widely regarded as a testament to Gerard’s faith and divine blessing, underscoring his role as a vessel of healing and divine mercy.

3. The Discovery of the Holy Flame

Date: 1968
Location: Church of the Exalted

Description:
In 1968, Gerard, accompanied by Caius Primus and Callahan, conducted a sacred ritual at the Church of the Exalted. They lit a ceremonial fire intended for the sacrifice of their goods as an offering to GOD. However, despite their efforts, the sacrificial items were neither burned nor accepted by the flames, suggesting a rejection of their offerings.

It was only when Gerard’s palm entered the fire and was burned by its touch that the offerings were finally consumed by the flames. This dramatic act of self-sacrifice was interpreted as a divine sign, indicating that the true essence of their sacrifice required personal and profound dedication. The acceptance of their offerings following Gerard’'s sacrifice was seen as a powerful confirmation of divine approval and the sanctity of their intentions.

A young and pious Grand Princess of Hyspia eagerly took the biography, clasping it close as she hurried to the study within La Doradas palace. She sank into the carpets, and busied herself in study of the Blessed Gerard. Time passed, candles flickering out and servantry calling for the girl to eat gone ignored. .
