Juno Salazar reaches the Salazar Manor with her lover, Pedro Salazar, after his retirement from his military duties, both content and relieved from the ceremony. 

 

“We are free.” They smile at each other, holding each other's soft hand as they walk through the gates, going up the stairs as they walk to the room that was designed for them. 

 

The door with their names signed gets open and the two lovers walk to the bed, sitting near one another. 

 

“I was so lucky I have met you in this life” Pedro spews a few words. 

“You were the best thing that has happened to me, my love” Juno says, grasping her sword while her lover did the same to his dagger. 

 

“Did you know that once your heart stops, in the last 8 minutes your brain repeats your best memories?” Pedro asks.

 

“You will be my last 8 minutes” Juno says.

 

“I was just about to say that!” Pedro exclaims.

 

They look at each others eyes for a couple of minutes, placing their weapons to each others chest. 

Tears and smiles form in their faces, in relief. 

 

And they count.

The lovers hands shake as they stab each other in the heart with their respective weapons. Juno groans in pain, feeling the cold metal pierce her most sensitive muscle, the muscle she wholeheartedly used for Pedro. The woman gasps for air as if her lungs were blocked, yet she smiles. Her blue ceremonial tunic gets stained with her crimson blood, staining it with her life essence. 

 

“I love you so much, my dear Pedro” She smiles, using her last minutes to lay down with her lover, getting as comfortable as they could. 

 

They grasps each others hands, her head laying on his chest as her lover patted her head with the little strength they had left.

 

“Together until the end” Pedro says with his last breath, closing his eyes. 

 

“Until the end of time” Juno smiles, muttering under her breath as she closes her eyes. 

 

The 8 minutes were passing and in every second her lover was there. His touches could be felt on her skin, as his words passed through her ears. His smile was ingrained into her retinas as all the memories passed through her eyes. 

 

She opens her eyes. White covers her field of vision. There was a sudden inner peace inside of her. 

 

In front of her, Pedro stands with a smile, as he had awaited for his lover to arrive in his arms. She holds his hand with a smile, seeing her long forgotten parents also awaiting for her, holding each other in their arms.

They had awaited for so many years, just observing from affar.

 

Juno smiles, finally reaching inner peace. 

 

She was free.
