Battle of North Rat Gate

Year 212 Sun's Smile of the Second Age at the Gates of Solgaard

[!]A diseased riddled zombie vermin surging forth into the defenders of Solgaard.

Skeletal ghouls screamed in the late night. Thegn Conan with warriors Jay Amaranth and Hildulfr would find bursting through the front gates of their solitude home a gaggle of skeletal ghouls with the faces of RATS. All of them lead by some twisted fiend named Abraham. The creature surged forward to attack the surprised folk of the village; the druid Yrsa approached them before the soldiers of Solgaard ran to the gates to enact their defense.

Bones shattered, armour splintered, and the undead howled for thirsting blood as something pounded again and again upon the gates. Even as more skeletal monsters flooded into the city; set to overwhelm the line of noble defenders- more warriors surged to the front as they left houses and camp sites alike to aid in the defense. Runa, Isolde, and Aphra took to the back with bows in hand. The skilled shinobi Tsukinomiya joined the fray at the front, and the tactical druidcraft of Yrsa gave the needed edge for Conan, Jay, and Hildulfr to hold the front line.

Then the wood gate came CRASHING down, and looming into the city, upon the back of a titanic ratish zombie ogre named Wicker was the Necromancer who led the attack- Eikit the Dead Rat. His vile laughter and ungodly screams surged forth his undead hoard to fits of fury; the zombies and ghouls screaming praises to the deranged Horned Lord even as the warriors of Solgaard cut them down in a chaotic melee that threatened to drown them by sheer weight of numbers alone.

Jay would be forced to face the rat ogre in single combat as arrows pelted the necromancer; knocking him off his steed. Surely, if not for the fabled Argentum; the warrior would have met a messy and gruesome end at the hands of such a vile beast. Even then- the sheer strength of such a brute nearly ended his life if not for the timely intervention of his companions who slew the creature before it could remove his head with that large, horrible jaw that snapped at them like a hungry beast.

Rattish hounds scampered through the battlefield; insidiously exploding in vile bursts of bile and pus which could leave lingering diseases. The ghoul Abraham had nearly brought Conan to his very knees by his relentless attacks; but fate seemed to be on the side of the noble Norns that day. Perhaps the Necromancer had his fill, or more likely great fear drove that wicked soul; and he would flee the battle before its forlong conclusion.

“Life is horrible,” the broken Abraham would cry out, looking to the sky as his master left him for dead. The ghoul turned its unliving eyes to the surrounding Norns. “End me hero, do as they do in the STORIES” he cried, spitting upon them with hatred; a looming taste of great dreams shattered by the malignant evils brought into this world by Iblees.

With a limp in his step, Conan approached the creature, taunted by the spitting insults thrown by the ghoul. He raised his shield up and sent it smashing down upon Abraham’s skull; crushing it to splinters as an eerie laugh echoed from the broken skulls upon the battle field. A horrid reminder of the true terror the undead can bring; such creatures which rage mindless destruction to satisfy a hunger which can never be fulfilled….

[!]In the depths of some depraved cave, rebuilding his lost minions, Eikit would pen a letter and soon it would be nailed to the broken gates of Solgaard.

Man-things of the north, you have done WELL in defeating my hoards. Clever, you think yourself. Strong you believe to be. But this is not the end, merely a beginning. How long does it take before a Hero becomes the villain of their so called stories? How long until your spirit breaks and your hope fails you? Remember this day, and all days after; the HORNED LORD shall have his stomach filled with your screaming souls.

Doom be upon you, for all tunnels lead to the grave,

Eikit, the Dead Rat

Spoiler

Thank you to M1919 for all the screen shots. This was a very fun player event I had always wanted to try where a large mob of undead with some unique mechanics surge into a camp in a siege battle type manner. It was a sporadic player event done without much warning to Solgaard save for m1919 himself since we wanted to keep it on a bit of a downlow and make it a sudden shock! It was a real blast running this, and I hope to build off it to make more interesting player events.
