The Voice of Nueva Vida

Issued on the 8th of Javier’s Justice of the year of 145 D.R.

 

 

Introduction:

As this recent census comes to a close, we find it time to call once more upon the people of Nueva Vida to select their Alcalde, the voice of the city. With the Capital’s new renovations, our nation’s expansions, and the newest generation of Hyspians beginning to enter into occupations, it is imperative that a leader be chosen to reflect the wishes of the changing times.

 

Before our blessed people can vote they must be given options, to have upstanding citizens step up to campaign for their selection as this city’s newest Alcalde. As such, upon this missive whomever intends to run must present their case in the approved format and advertise themselves properly, in-person amongst the citizenry.

On Campaigning:

To campaign, as per the Berkhoven Standard, a candidate for Alcalde shall only be either be a natural-born citizen of Hyspia and its vassals or an individual that has resided within the Sovereignty of Hyspia and its vassals for the span of twelve (12) years, or three (3) Saint’s months. 

 

A candidate shall also be no younger than fifteen (15) years of age and no older than eighty (80) years of age. An Alcalde must be physically and mentally able to perform their role as the Citizenry’s voice within the Sovereignty’s government and capable of defending their people when the need arises. This will be checked via the most recent census of Hyspian citizenry, alongside their standing within our lands. 

 

Those of the royal family or the Sovereigns council may not run, due to their already prominent position within our nation. Those in poor standing will also not be allowed to run, given the nation's distrust in their intentions. A running-mate or “Vice-Alcalde” may be allowed to run alongside a potential Alcalde given they also meet the above requirements.

 

When campaigning, posters or missives may be penned to increase one's favor, and speeches and events may be scheduled to have one’s values and voice be heard. An individual must announce their intention to campaign within two (2) Saints days of this missive’s publication, and the campaign process will last exactly one (1) Saint’s week of this year’s census. After the process has closed, an election will be held and the Alcalde will begin their tenure.

 

On the Role of Alcalde:

The following is a comprehensive list of the special duties and privileges allocated to the Alcalde of Nueva Vida:

 

Upon becoming Alcalde, ones will be granted the privilege of requesting a one-on-one meeting with the Sovereign. They will be required to take petitions from the citizenry to present before the Crown however they see fit. They will also be required to keep the notice board updated with current events within the city of Nueva Vida, oversee the Hyspian tavern, oversee the cleanliness of the city, and oversee the creation of new jobs within the city.

 

It must be noted, the position of Alcalde is one of the City, not the State. Those who take up this position will be primarily occupied with the people’s concerns regarding the city of Nueva Vida rather than political or diplomatic missions. They will have no jurisdiction outside of matters that pertain to the Capital, which does not include the various noble and gentry territories, nor the nation as a whole.

The Alcalde’s methods of service to the people can certainly be varied, and can choose to uphold whatever precedents set by their preceding Alcaldes as they see fit. However, those responsibilities and regulations as listed in the Nova Lex Hyspia must be followed and cannot be tested, unless changed expressly by the Sovereign and their High Council.

 

On the Campaigning Format:

Those who meet all requirements to run and have express intentions to campaign and potentially serve as Alcalde will fill out a response to the following format and attach said response to this missive to be collected by the relevant authorities:

Closing Thoughts:

We must take our time to thank those that have come before, and we extend our warmest gratitude to our departing Alcalde Klaus von Berkhoven and Vice-Alcalde Kerina Mondblume. You have served this city well, watching over it as it transitioned in name and structure. Your contributions to La Dorada and Nueva Vida will forevermore be remembered fondly, and your consultation and wisdom will always be needed. Thank you both for your term, and good luck in all your ventures.

 

The position of Alcalde, while a respected and vital role, is still in its infancy. While there are certainly rules and expectations of the individual who finds themselves in this role, there is also an immense freedom and leniency when it comes to the methodology of how they complete their duties to the city and to the people. The most important thing for any Alcalde is that they are active in their community, hear their citizen’s petitions, and do their best to fix the city they represent with the help of the Sovereigns and the various associated Council Members. Know that, by campaigning, you are being given the potential to truly make the position your own, and will have a network of previous Alcaldes to refer to in times of need.

To my fellow citizens of Hyspia,

 

I, Klaus von Berkhoven, pen to you, the people of Hyspia, it has been my honor to represent you all as your Alcalde for not just La Dorada, but also the newly constructed Nueva Vida.

 

VATER GOTT has allowed me to perform, to the best of my abilities and talents, the duties required of me to serve all of my cherished friends. Despite the sickness that had bedridden me for most of my tenure, I have built the Helfbot Constructors to assist in the construction projects going on all around Hyspia and I have enacted The Berkhoven Standard so that the Office of Alcalde is secure and fully reserved for the citizenry of not just Nueva Vida, but the Sovereignty of Hyspia as a whole. 

 

With that, my cherished friends and fellow citizens, it has been an honor to serve as your Alcalde and I pray for the good fortune of my successor and for the LORD’s gentle hand to guide them.

GREATEST OF COUNCILORS, MY PERFECT SHEPARD, I come to you in prayer that this son of YOURS may be guided by the light of YOUR White Flame, VATER GOTT. Continue to bath me in YOUR wisdom and let YOUR endless love continue to flow through me and let it flow through the one that succeeds me to the people they shall willfully serve.

EXALTED HOREN, pray for us that my successor leads your descendants in righteousness as you had in the Holy City. May humility, as it was for you, be my guide so that I am not blinded by worldly powers.

EXALTED OWYN, pray for us that the White Flame of ALL-POWERFUL GOTT continues to immolate my soul and the soul of my successor and purifies it to lead the flock of Hyspia in a righteous direction.

SAINT ADRIAN, pray for us that the blessing of pious statesmanship is embedded in the soul of my successor so that they may serve the LORD’s children in Hyspia and let it be VATER GOTT that guides their decisions. Let our ALMIGHTY GOTT guide my successor through the complexity that is politicking, and let their decisions be always for the people.

"It seems that the time to begin my campaign has finally come" he affirmed, opening his backpack and taking out a clipboard along with a pile of flyers he had been meticulously preparing weeks prior to the announcement of the election. "Let's see... above 15 years old? Check. Must've resided in Hyspia for more than 12 years? Check. And as for the final question..." he whispered, reaching into his backpack once again and pulling out a long list filled with problems that needed to be solved. "There are quite a few things that require improvement. Let's start with these for now" he affirmed, as he began to fill out the last part of the document. "For starters, the tavern's always empty due to the lack of employees. And then there are those annoying holes in the middle of the streets. Still can't believe it's already that damaged despite being built only a few years ago." He looks up, wondering if there was any other significant idea he could add to the document "Hmmm... I wonder if I'd be able to create another project to create more jobs for the Hyspian citizens." He smiles "Alright, time to the final part of my campaign, the propaganda"

I would want to being the construction of an educational institution as the sessions I have heard and read in records of La Escuela de Veronica was that students would learn in what is the court building of the city. But not only for the core curriculum classes, but open it up to more extracurricular courses that are kosher with the Church (Housemagery, Bardmancy, Etc.).

“Time to see what the next generation will do for the future of Hyspia, for now ich will wait for the campaign posters.” The elderly Second Alcalde, Dr. Klaus von Berkhoven, hummed as he continued to transliterate several copies of documents by hand and file them away for safe keepings for himself and for the Crown. “Perhaps ich will even look into endorsing one of them.” He added with a soft grin.

Dante read over the two candidates' positions, nodding, "Certainly noble petitions and good causes." The First Alcalce scribbled upon a piece of parchement, "Though La Escuela de Veronica was always a passion project of mine, one I could not see through for many reasons..." The Viscount signed at the bottom of his paper, "These two are so young, perhaps the youngest candidates we have ever had... but if I had to cast my endorsement-" Dante's quill flicked horizontally as he completed the R in his name, "I stand by Senorita del Maravilla, for her pursuit of education for Hyspia."

Viscount Dante Fontesar endorses Lady Estrella del Maravilla as the 3rd Alcalde of Nueva Vida.
