“I believe the Curia and the King should meet privately regarding the systems of the Tribunal and how they shall help with the leadership and ruling of Haense,” the Archaengul spoke.

This was no private meeting, nor was it any form of discussion and agreement. The journey to the Holy See was rushed, tracked by the sunlight in the sky which streaked downwards, as the pounding of hooves kicked up dust clouds upon the road. Their arrival was swift, and just barely meeting the time they had been urged to concede to by some ominous means. The Horenic Covenant had gathered large and united, and it was presumed this would be a talk of equals. Only, Joren was summoned, and silence was asked of everyone, including the King of Hanseti-Ruska himself. Even then, whispers of unease settled amongst the crowd she stood within. Within reach of all three kings present in the Covenant, and still, the lady knight felt that she could not protect them from what was to come. A further stacking of accusations upon a late King, a commentating on practices since Oren. They had not been mentioned before, but the people of Haense, of the Covenant, were silenced, and therefore forced into the presumption of agreeing with each and every one. Falsity, words shoved into the mouths and down the throats of those quieted beneath that supposedly holy roof.

Then, came the terms. These weren’t negotiations spoken, they were demands, unrighteous, and unfair, to the citizens and refugees of their nation. Joren was no longer the executor of action, the Church claiming rights to task and veto, forgoing prior arrangements made. He had already inherited the throne, coronation or not, as any monarchy worked, and the Church refused to acknowledge such, as it was more befitting to what they asked. Such as the change in Karl’s title, even though it had only been two winters since his early death, painting such a young man to their picture of paranoia, despite the age which wore on their weary minds. The change of established culture, hundreds of years old, to better suit their Ownyist wishes, and still they called themselves the Church of Canon. Of course, they too would ask for the demilitarization of the Aestmarch, the lands primarily occupied by refugees of a now lack of Aaun, another event bled through by the Church’s fingers.

It was enough to hear such spoken, and worse to hear the concerned whispers of those damned by them behind her. Their concerns for their homes and jobs, the contortions of their expressions as many others could not understand what they had done to deserve such upon them and Joren in turn. Words were exchanged through paper and murmurs, though she could not entirely process them, her heart thumping much too loudly in her ears as she awaited her King’s response. 

“I came here niet as a King, niet as a ruler, but as a man. I traversed the realms of Canon to broker a peaceful agreement and I hoped that I would be able to negotiate these terms. And, I do trust the dobry Cardinal and his wisdom. He as taught me since I was a child, alongside my borsa Karl. . .” He paused then, to think on words before speaking “I came in dobry faith. I had wished for the same, yet I will leave here today with peace in my heart that the choice I make now is for my people, and for their betterment. Therefore, I cannot in good conscience agree to these terms.”

“Do you understand that by denying these terms, you deny penance? You deny making right legitimate wrongs, and that you have disturbed the peace, and that you maintain in a state of war against the Church? This you understand?” The Ledicort Vuiller asked incredulously.  “By the authority vested in me, as Vicar of the Vicar of GOD, and by the fact that you admit all your guilt before the Holy See and yet seek to disregard a path of penance, you deny the Church's spiritual authority, and thereby you have incurred a state of EXCOMMUNICATION. You will be allowed to exit the premises safely, but understand the consequences that this shall bring.”

A sigh rippled through the room, a weight lifted, so similarly in tow was a blast position lobbed towards the Hanseti King, failing to truly strike its target. In the flurry of guards moving to protect their respective lieges, the Ledicort screamed over the crowd. Perhaps Joren would have answered, if not for the action prior, though it was clear he had never agreed to a war, nor found wanting of one. It was a dead man’s. He was led from the See, and each party of the Covenant was to return to their nations. So they did.

The Haeseni remained gathered and held emotions far from fear. Their cries in the square were not of malice, or upset, but rather relief, for their King had put them first. That, or as any individual did, they swallowed such feelings deep down, to avoid the hindrance it would cause in their upcoming conflicts. But, they were united in faith, and faith took people far. Now it was a matter of where their blades took them, led by King Joren, The Righteous. For now, they would see what tomorrow would bring, though they were aware it was anything but peace.

This was honestly an extremely rushed narrative, but I wanted to get it done and posted rather than having it sit in my docs until the end of time.
