Name of the Artifact:

Last Stand

Lore / Description:

A singular gauntlet that is represented by a palette of gray metal with lustrous golden-to-yellow lining, with the flat-side representing a draconian pattern resembling scales. There is a transfixed stone that sits on the palm of his hand-worn armour, spitting light every few seconds. This gauntlet was once worn by Sir Owin the Colossus, a Greyscale Knight that served under the banner of Aruzond and Mordring during the Thirty Years War.

General Artefact Redlines

- The gauntlet is made of pure steel reinforced by felt and dragonscale; the bottom side of the gauntlet, being the palm, is curated of scales originating from a dragaar, bearing the same tensility of carbarum. The flat-side palm is flame-proof and will not melt from fire, but this does not matter as fire will still warp around and go through the gaps between each finger. Malflame will also wrap around the gauntlet the same as any normal fire would.

- On the contrary to the above redline, dragonsflame is ineffective when aimed towards the gauntlet due to the nature of the material used to craft it.

- This gauntlet cannot be soulbound due to being a lore-heavy item. It will have a significant magic item tag + unbound tag to prevent this.

- This gauntlet cannot be worn by darkspawn, bearers of any dark magic or constructs. To provide a list, this includes: all manner of undead and necromancy, all manner of inferi and naztherak, ectoplasmic creatures which include wights and mystic constructs or mysticism, golems, clockwork machines, machine spirits, ghosts or spectres.

- This gauntlet can be destroyed, but the attempt to destroy said relic must require supervision from the ST [Werew0lf] through a localised event to monitor the CArt. In order to break this gauntlet outside of combat, contact Werew0lf to set up an event. During combat, the gauntlet cannot be destroyed.

Effects of the artefact

Last Stand [Passive];

This gauntlet provides innumerable benefits to the wearer. Upon claiming this artefact, it will morph and shrink to fit perfectly unto the wearer’s hand, no matter what race or size their hand is – this provides the most optimal comfort and allows the wearer to still be able to use their hand with ease. On top of this, the gauntlet will fit into either hand, the left, or the right.

When the artefact is worn, the wearer will find it impossible to remove. It will remain in place permanently until removed through other means.

The gauntlet will provide the wearer a strong sense of loyalty towards those they care about, and a willpower that prevents them from suffering mental or physiological breakdowns in intense situations. Their mind will feel more coded towards following a knight’s code, even if they themselves are not a knight, such as becoming more chivalrous, honourable, and law-abiding.

In the presence of all open and non-disguised darkspawn, such as inferi, mystic constructs, ectoplasmic creatures (wights), and all manners of undead, the wearer will be enraged and will feel a sudden bloodlust.

- As stated previously, this gauntlet can be worn by any wearer and will fit to accommodate their sizes. It can be worn on either hand, and this must be decided in-roleplay when putting the gauntlet on.

- Upon wearing the gauntlet, the wearer will be physically unable to remove it from their hand, and magic or alchemy cannot assist in doing so.

- The gauntlet can only be removed in three different ways:

1) The wearer’s hand is cut off from beneath the wrist, or if the arm is cut off in full. Once this is done, the gauntlet will slide off itself.

2) The wearer is killed, even if their arm or hand is intact, the gauntlet can be removed.

- The wearer’s mental inclination will start to head towards more knightly codes, such as feeling more chivalrous, law-abiding, honour-bound, their loyalty will spike tremendously towards those they care about, and they will find themselves having the willpower to go through extremely tough and intense situations. However, this does not ward them from any magical effects that may cause fear.

- In the presence of all open and non-disguised darkspawn, the wearer will feel openly compelled to fight / assault said darkspawn, most likely attempting to slaughter them.

Duel [Active] [2 emote] [1 use];

If both wearer and opponent agree to a duel, the gauntlet’s small gem located in the palm will start to glow a dim gray hue. Both wearer and opponent must unsheathe their weapons and touch their weapon-heads against each other. Over the span of [2] emotes, both opponent and wearer will become incorporeal and may fight to any terms they have set or agreed upon earlier. At the conclusion of the duel, which must either be through: an audible surrender, unable to fight, or death, both wearer and opponent will become corporeal again.

- The wearer and opponent must agree to the duel, this requires both [IC] consent and [OOC] consent.

- In an OOC capacity, the user must have consent from all parties present before using this ability. This is to stop bad-faith roleplay, such as attempting to loop-hole using this ability to get out of being jumped by thirty people. It cannot be used if even one party in OOC declines.

- If all parties are satisfied [OOC], the duel ability may be used. This takes two emotes, [1] being unsheathing of the weapon and the gauntlet’s gem glowing, and the second being the wearer and opponent turning incorporeal.

- Both opponent and wearer will be unable to interact with physical objects. Walls and floors will still be impermissible to pass through, but they cannot pick up objects such as household items or otherwise and use it in the duel. It will only be with the weapons and objects on their person.

- Whilst incorporeal, others may still spectate the fight, but they will be unable to interfere or harm either wearer or opponent. If they attempt to touch either party, their hands will simply go through them. The opponent and wearer are unable to see any spectators whilst in the duel, allaying any distractions.

- All injuries that translate in this duel will remain after the duel is over. If one of the opponent’s dies, when the duel is over, they will simply be dead. At the conclusion of the duel, both opponent and wearer of the artefact will become corporeal.

- This ability cannot be used to bypass guards and gates, this goes in line with the ‘wall’ redline.

- Should both users of this ability stray apart by ten blocks, the duel ability will stop working.

- This ability can only be used (1) time per OOC day.

Emote Example;

Spoiler

[Enemy] The orc unsheathes her longsword, and extends it outwards as asked for, hovering between her and Sir Owin.

[1] Sir Owin’s gauntleted-hand grasped the hilt of a pole-axe, and slowly unsheathed it from small leather hatches on his back. The light of a gem upon his palm gleamed, causing silver light to spew from the scaled-gauntlet.

[2] Sir Owin’s pole-axe extended outwards, and its axe-head tapped the uruk’s longsword blade. Within a matter of seconds, the silver light shone vibrantly, and both Sir Owin and the orc would become incorporeal, unable to be interacted by the world around them.

Knight’s Parry [Active] [1 emote] [3 uses];

The wearer may raise their gauntleted-hand up towards any blunt, piercing or slicing melee weapons, such as longswords, shortswords, polearms, warhammers, maces and etcetera in [1] emote, deflecting it backwards at the same strength of the swing, and parrying with an attack if their other hand is bearing arms. This can only be used [3] times per combat encounter, with a [1] emote cooldown between each use.

- The knight’s parry can only be used if the wearer is able to raise their gauntleted-hand up in time, showing the flatside of their palm which is covered in scales.

- The strength of the attack from the opponent does not matter, as long as it is a: blunt, piercing, or slicing melee weapon, it will be deflected off the gauntlet after (1) emote.

- If the wearer is also wielding a weapon in their other, they can emote parrying with a counter-attack in the same (1) emote.

- After using parry, there is a (1) emote cooldown before it can be used again.

- Parry does not work on any force used that exceeds olog strength.

- This can only be used (3) times in one combat encounter. However, if all parties consent, it can be used for an increased use which must be agreed upon by everybody. In player or story events, it is up to the discretion of the ET, and if no agreement is made, it returns to the usual (3) times.

- This can only deflect and parry melee weaponry, and does not work for ranged projectiles or magic

Emote Example;

Spoiler

[Enemy] The orc raises her longsword, gripped by both hands. With one vivacious swing, the longsword’s sharp blade edge is sent out towards Sir Owin, aiming for his torso.

[1] Sir Owin’s left hand, covered by a gray-tanned gauntlet, raises out the flat side of his palm towards the orc’s longsword. Clang, the longsword’s blade is sent bouncing off from the gauntlet with force applicable to the same strength as the uruk. With this opening, the knight juts his shortsword with his right-hand, attempting to pierce the orc in their thigh! [1/1 - Knight’s Parry].

Adrenaline [Active] [1 emote] [1 uses] [Event Only];

In situations which may come to be dire or require brute strength, the wearer may find themselves blessed by the old spirit of the Greyscale Knight who originally possessed this tremendous gauntlet, and in a singular [1] emote, may be able to do impossible tasks. For example, lifting up objects that would be considered too heavy to lift.

- This ability cannot be used in player combat, and is only available for event purposes - this is restricted to ST events only. It can only be used once per event, and hopefully this guidance is followed by other ET.

- The extent of this ability is up to the discretion of the DM, but it should be explained prior to being used. For example, if the wearer finds a stone bridge pillar is about to break and people are on said bridge, if the DM gives consent, they may use adrenaline to keep the whole bridge upright with pure strength.

- To provide some guidance for any ET, adrenaline can only be used in situations which are intense and require urgent use. For example, if it will cause immediate harm to others, risk lives, or time is short and x or y must be completed, it can be used. It should not be used to show off strength or in mundane situations.

- There are some examples below of what is considered acceptable. Adrenaline can also be used in events for combative purposes where a situation is dire. This can be as simple as repelling a strong foe, running away whilst having lost too much blood, or carrying away numerous people in heavy armour you would normally be unable to do.

Emote Example;

Spoiler

Example 1:

[Event Broadcast] The stone bridge starts to crumble from the upright pillars, and those on top find themselves too short of time to make it to the other end. It threatens to fall into the depths below, and take those on top with them to death’s doorsteps.

[1] Sir Owin’s eyes turn wide as his comrades are left sprinting down towards the bridge – he notices the bridge will collapse soon, and those on top will not make it. In a great, inhumane display of strength, the knight’s gauntlet violently grapples one of the heavy pillars, his veins prod across his arm, his eyes shine a bright silver intensity, and the gem of his gauntlet ruminates in ferocity. By some miracle or strength comparable to great titans, the knight keeps the heavy stone-bridge held together, giving the group enough time to cross. [1/1 - Adrenaline].

Example 2:

[Event Broadcast] The drake’s head whirls downright towards the group, its serpentine slits taunt those below. They are bloodied, battered, and bruised. Pastel-orange rushes through the drake’s throat, preparing to unleash dragonfire on its foes!

[1] Sir Owin’s veins burst with adrenaline, and as the drake’s face is brought down, the knight sends its gauntleted-fist upright towards the dragonkin’s chin. His gauntleted-hand shines brightly, its gem spits silver, and by some unknown show of force, the drake’s head rears up violently as dragonfire spews out, missing the group entirely! [1/1 - Adrenaline].

Example 3:

[Event Broadcast] A large troll stomps its way towards three armoured knights, their legs broken and torn. However, it is quite slow on its approach – unfortunately, all three knights are unable to move, and will probably be crushed by the troll!

[1] Sir Owin rushes over towards the three armoured knights. His gauntlet zips a scraggly gray hue, its gem radiating pure, unfiltered energy. With his arms protruding outwards, he starts to pick up all three knights, heavy, armoured and bearing armaments, two on either shoulder and in his arms. Sir Owin sprints as fast as he can, the weight of the fallen, injured knight’s did not seem to restrain him! [1/1 - Adrenaline].
