Silver Spears After Action Report - Solland

 

Present Company: Aranuir, Agartharan, Baldr, Elowyn, Eris, Rickard, Stinthäd, Sul'Irrin

Acting Captains: Ser Agartharan, Elowyn

Allied Combatants: Joseph of Valfleur, Sir Artair, Unnamed combatant marked as Ferrum Dagger

Opposition: Forces of the Mountain (Ranged & Infantry Units, (1) Chain)

Locale: the Canton of Solland, south of Petra’s Walls

Time & Date: 12th of the Grand Harvest, Evening

Under guidance of the Prince Joseph, the Silver Spears Company arrived south of Solland on horseback, lacking Commander Aranuir. Mountain forces were seen beginning to raze the village. Visible forces included a number of archers atop a church roof and infantry forces which had already spread through Solland. On the southwest section of Solland, a Mountain Chain was visible.

 

Riding forth, initially to simply engage the Mountain forces, the screams of still cowering peasantry provided the Spear with additional motivation, to save the lives of the Prince’s people.

 

After facing and either dodging or enduring a volley of arrows from the Mountain’s forces, the Silver Spears Company quickly divided into three small groups, splitting across Solland’s south to the west, east, and center.

 

Our primary goal was to eliminate any forces of the Mountain, including its present Chain. Our secondary goal was to rescue and intervene in the saving of any remaining peasants in hiding.

 

Elowyn initially flanked west under the cover of the buildings to destroy the Chain using Malchediael’s fire. This was under the direction of Prince Joseph, who inquired whether aught could be done to the Chain. Elowyn’s information would prove accurate. A Vigorous Blow was dealt to the Chain, amidst its preparations, Elowyn calling for assistance with the trapped peasant children. Eris rode forth to intervene. Elowyn successfully collapsed the Chain, and joined Eris alongside another unnamed combatant, Ferrum Dagger. Elowyn funneled the Mountain forces through the home as Eris broke open the window, freeing the children to allow them to flee to safety. Ferrum Dagger and Eris then helped clear out the Mountain forces as Elowyn’s shield took a severe beating and began to break apart. All three evacuated the building before its collapse.

 

To the east, Stinthäd broke into the glass at the back of the church to free the peasant woman and children stuck inside and hiding, whilst Baldr and Rickard took brief cover from the Mountain forces’ archers atop the rooftop, sending out arrows from their bows in quick succession. Rickard and Baldr would soon join Stinthäd inside the church, crashing in through the windows and into cover. Inside, Stinthäd had lobbed Auric Oil upon the Mountain infantry forces inside and began to charge into the melee. However, a Mountain Alchemist prepared an explosive retort, looking to explode the companyman into smithereens. Stinthäd raised the body of one of the Mountain’s forces to shield himself, but suffered maiming of his eye. Outside,  Sul’Irrin successfully conjured a Voidal ball of ice, which effectively took out the remaining archers atop the roof. Baldr, Rickard, and the now wounded Stinthäd clear out the chapel’s floor.

 

In the center, Prince Joseph and Sir Artair sought to buy time for the rest of the Company whilst clearing out the Mountain forces on foot. Ser Agartharan quickly prepared a Vigorous Blow and quickly began dispatching Mountain forces to assist the others on the main street. This and Artair’s use of Voidal fire cleared the way and bought time for both the east and west forces to prevent them being surrounded. and the Prince to enter the Kingsley building and free the number of peasants inside, albeit not without resistance, as it proved to be a fierce melee to fight up to the second floor, all while the building was set ablaze and began to collapse. Among this, Ser Agartharan took further blows amongst the arrow to his leg from the first volley. Two peasant women were freed from almost certain death, as were two children hiding upstairs from the battle.

 

With the Kingsley building being the last cleared of Mountain forces, and the fires burning through the building, the Company was soon joined by reinforcements from the south, as the others had successfully completed their tasks in the Petra scouting efforts.

 

With Solland cleared,  Stinthäd’s maimed eye was removed by Eris, and the Silver Spears moved on to Cartref Mor and eventually Numendil, seeking to have the arrow removed from Ser Agartharan's leg.

Author’s Notes: This particular combination of skills and forces proved extremely effective. Malchediael’s blessing is particularly effective against the chains, as well as Voidal magics are against Mountain forces. Auric Oil should be in consistent stock going forward. Rickard and Baldr made effective use of the terrain and cover, coming into the assistance of Stinthäd’s, whose brave charge bought quicker time for the peasants to escape the chapel. The Spears operated quickly and effectively, managing to clear each section before the buildings entirely collapsed to ruin or fire. Elowyn in particular held exceptionally well, buying me time to get the children out, making good use of the broken wall to funnel in the forces. 

 

Of curious note, the Mountain forces have become intelligent and wary enough to begin targeting Templars, seemingly throwing their own forces in the way or alternatively attempting to target them. It is not impossible the Mountain has become privy to their abilities from sheer experience and has relayed this to its puppeted spirits. This should be noted for further encounters during Company contracts related to the Mountain.

The woman let out a small laugh as she read the page, tucking her hair from her eyes. “It was an honour to fight alongside the rest of the Spears. To know we were able to save as many lives as we did, while outnumbered- It fills me with a great sense of pride. I have no doubt we will continue to do great things.” Elowyn then downed the rest of her celebratory ale, raising the empty mug in the air to alert her friend of a needed refill.
