Today was a good day.

The sun was out, and the air was crisp. Natalia took the horse that she had just bought from Io up to the northern tundra to visit her Aunt Estel. She had made sure to speak with Iulius the day prior to ask him to look out for her new granddaughter. She had a bad habit of forgetting to keep track of her charge. She arrived at Estel’s and was greeted by a warm hug from the woman. It was so wonderful to see her again. Natalia hadn’t had the energy to make such a trip in quite a long time. After only being there for a few minutes, her best friend Amethyne arrived to visit too, and another hug ensued. It was a good day.

The group of them ventured across the continent to find Vicnan, another dear friend of Nat. After a quick swim in the alba tunnels, they made their way to Jun Mura, where they found Vicnan. It had been such a good day.

Natalia began to get tired, but the lot of them went into the tavern to have a chat and catch up. It was peaceful, hearing her friends' voices once more, the bickering of Estel and Vicnan, and the laugh of Amethyne. Suddenly, she wasn’t in that tavern; she was back in Vansk, in that tent city, bundled up by the fire. She was exchanging tales with her friends, preparing potions with Sindri, playing music with Farian, laughing with Vali. She was in old Vjardengrad, sitting in the tavern, bickering with Vicnan. She was playing on the slide with Amethyne and their children. She was learning how to make carrot cake from Estel. She was nineteen again, at the gates of Norland, being beckoned in by Io.

She was happy again, the pain of her past lost on her.

Today was a good day.

Unibearse

"Natalia. Look at me."

"Goodnight Ame…"

She did not look up

"Nat, Nat- wake up.."

She did not respond

"Look. At. Me."

She was silent

"Nat. Nat. . ."

She was at peace

The chaos ensued around her, frantic attempts to save her, cries and pleas, but it did not matter anymore. Natalia was where she could rest without the pain of the world weighing on her shoulders.

Spoiler

Letter were sent to her loved ones. These individuals will receive them separate to this post.

Spoiler

Natalia was my first ever character on this server so it's sad to see her go. She had a good, long run.

Amethyne had a feeling that something was wrong, but only offered a handkerchief assuming she had a cold. Her friend was looking sickly as she coughed, and her head resting on Amethyne shoulder as her eyes closed. Amethyne rose a hand to Natalia's forehead as she was conversed with her father, who just briefly caught her up on the new family. "Goodnight Ame", was the last words she heard as Natalia suddenly went cold in her arms. "Nat, nat- Wake up", Amethyne shook Natalia before laying her down to check breathing and pulse, then deciding on performing chest compressions. "Come on, come on!" Amethyne kept doing CPR, she wasn't going to give up on her friend; not now, not ever. Eventually, her body gave to exhaustion as she stared as Natalia's bodily colors faded away.

The rain covered the dock as Vicnan placed a raft down and laid the deceased Natalia on it. The three remaining Vannites stood there, speaking their last and final words to Natalia before the raft was set aflame. Her arms hugged the two with her as she wept in despair. Amethyne watched her best friend floated away into the distant horizons of the sea.

"My best friend from day one till now; and for forever. Rest in peace, Nat. I hope that where you go, you are more free and shine brighter like you've always have."

Spoiler

A picture of what Natalia and Amethyne would have possibly looked like had they grew old and became elderly grandmas.

Captain Vicnan stood on the edge of the dock, watching as the last embers of Natalia's funeral pyre sank into the waters.
Only then did he finally sit to rest, breathing a heavy sigh as he came to terms with the fact that another friend was gone too soon.

"Rest easy with the others Nat." he spoke simply

After what felt like hours, he finally returned home to console his daughters in peace.
