When the Light Shatters: The Okarir’mali’s Resignation

Good Evening Haelun'or,

It will come as no surprise to those who know me that I have never been bound by the standards of purity that a true mali’thill who follows the doctrine ought to uphold. The simplicity of my actions, the clarity of my words, and a relaxed, charismatic manner were, I believe, the reasons why I was appointed Okarir’mali. When Sohaer Acalmaehr granted me the title after the war of Crown and Crozier, I thought my deeds might make maehr’sae hiylun’ehya a more accessible and accepted doctrine—not through harshness in its teaching, but through gentleness in speech. And that, once we were a free nation, we might raise with pride the banner of a brighter future.

But the dreams are well-known as fragile things

Sadly, reality proved otherwise—and I was well warned. I suppose no message truly reaches the heart until misfortune knocks at one’s door. The work and the original purpose of my mission now stand contradicted by the very one who entrusted me with this responsibility. What pillar could be more noble and fundamental than that of family? For Haelun’or, the doctrine remains its utmost priority. Even without a clear horizon, even if the original message has been distorted through Haelun’or’s long centuries of history, the rule still stands. It was then that I realised that I alone cannot erase the centuries of enmity and tarnished image among our elven kin.

Do not believe, then, that—despite the offence against my family—I harbour no hatred toward the Silver State. My work across Elvendom has been, and shall ever be, guided by compassion and fraternity. Yet it would be foolish of me not to prioritise the pillar I deem most essential to any society: the family. Yet I will not deny the weight my spirit now bears. I was naive to believe that the ideal of unity could stand upon words and goodwill alone. Those I held close—the ones I trusted, the ones I would have followed to the world’s very end—were the same who raised the wall that now divides us. I do not hate them, yet the wound they leave is not one that time can mend. It is a scar that reminds me that even the purest light may fracture beneath the shadow of mistrust. And in that fracture, the dream of reconciling our kin slips through my fingers like sand upon the wind.

I'll be clear tonight then.

Thus, I, Kirkigar Tarto Darkwood, hereby resign from my position as Okarir’mali, and from any title or responsibility within the Silver State of Haelun’or, irrevocably. In addition,  I nominate Aurelith Silevon as a more than worthy successor; for her potential exceeds anyone I know. I also warn any who may think as I do: to take violent reprisals is only to feed the flame of hatred—which, like the malflame, leaves a mark most difficult to erase. I shall treasure the experiences and lessons shared with, to name a few, Acalmaerh Calith, Valindra Lyavire-Nullivari, Seth Calith, Silvos Sythaerin, Theveus Sythaerin, Ankan Visaj, Valazaer Calith, Soris, Antelian Acaln’sae, Isadora and Thalis Thornfield. May the stars guide your path, for there is where the threads of fate are woven. I hope the Third Diarchy may yet fulfil the dream of a free nation—and that the weight of the crown never makes them bow their heads.

A brief note was attached in response:

The nation you claim to serve is an abominable laughingstock. Any pursuit of health, or wellness, fell the very moment they tossed themselves into Adunian hands. Malin now stands distant from a divided and complacent people. You are too young to understand the meaning of those words. Find me, sometime, and we will speak on them.
