FOREWORD

 

The River Court has been a long-standing beacon of culture, revelry, and conviviality within the Commonwealth of the Petra since its formation in 1860 (ARP 5) during Archduke Paul Salvian’s administration. Since then, it has grown into an institution that is responsible for the education of many, the guidance of most, and the revelry of all. Like a phoenix reborn, all institutions that operate under the guidance of the River Council have undergone extensive reform, and the Royal Court of our realm is no exception.

Thus, let it be known from this moment forward, the River Court shall be known as the Pétrine Court of Autumn (‘La Prin Petrère Courteis d’Autuagn’ in the old tongue). With new opportunities to inspire festivities, frame culture, and invoke purpose, the Autumn Court and its improvements promise a place for anyone with a knack for creation, learning, and sharing knowledge. The reforms introduce a new practice — a method that organizes individual groups into three harmonious Spheres that uphold our realm, each one encompassing the essential aspects of society. This is done so that the guilds, clans, the court, stewards, politicians, and even our levée can all work in tandem as a cohesive people.

COURT LEADERSHIP

The Court of Autumn is led by the Grand Chamberlain, followed by the Royal Hostarius, then the individual Sphere leaders thus.

Grand Chamberlain  —  Princess Mattea Asadha of the Petra

Leader of the court, the Grand Chamberlain is responsible for ensuring that the court is staffed with capable Masters in the Sphere of Disciplines to instruct the pupils of the Sphere of Humanities, as well as maintaining a healthy host of Curators of Revelry within the Sphere of Revels.

Royal Hostarius  —  Lord Finnean Reinhold

Second to the Grand Chamberlain, the Royal Hostarius serves to assist in all aspects pertaining to the court’s function. Working closely with the various leaders, they help to ensure that all of The Court’s Spheres are well-staffed and prepared to carry out their duties. The Royal Hostarius may also preside over Court proceedings when the Grand Chamberlain is unable to attend.

THE SPHERE OF HUMANITIES

Leader of the Sphere of Humanities — Majordomo  |  Lady Delphine Carnelle

Tasked with curating and exhibiting the knowledge and creations of the Pétrine people, the Sphere of Humanities is a mecca for any aspirant or advanced scholar looking to hone their skills. This Sphere, while being the host of numerous Masters, is also the destination of Azuras when it comes to scholarly pursuits. Note that more positions can be created, should talent arise not explicitly listed in this document.

Palace Attendants  —  Always Recruiting

Palace Attendants are responsible for the daily operation and upkeep of the royal residence. This includes cooks, servants, stewards and other household staff who ensure the palace runs smoothly.

Royal Governess  —  Lady Vanessa von Schwanstein

The Royal Governess serves as the head of wards, overseeing the upbringing, education and daily conduct of those placed under the Autumn Court’s care, ensuring each ward receives proper instruction suited to their station, talents and future duties.

Master of Fine Arts  —  Lord Siegfried von Schwanstein

The Master of Fine Arts is the foremost authority on artistic instruction within the court. They guide students and apprentices in the mastery of painting, sculpture, music and other disciplines, ensuring that each work reflects both skill and elegance.

Master Ecologist  —  Lady Alma Therese Reinhold

Oversees the ecological security and health of the Autumn Meadowlands and the Aldtree, ensuring the lands are not over-hunted, over-used, or victim to supernatural blight. Through expeditions, vigilance, and consistent care, the Master Ecologist ensures the Meadowlands remain as vibrant as when we first arrived on Azuras.

Master of Medicine  —  Lord Thomas von Theonus

The Master of Medicine assumes authority over all medical practice within la Courteis d’Autuagn. They oversee Medics, healers and apprentices, establish standards of care, and advise all Pétrine citizens on matters of health, injury and disease.

Royal Couturier  —  Lady Anna-Marie Carnelle

The Royal Couturier oversees all matters of fashion and dress within the palace. They design, approve, and maintain attire for nobles, wards and official ceremonies, ensuring garments reflect proper rank, occasion and courtly style.

THE SPHERE OF DISCIPLINES

Leader of the Sphere of Disciplines — Seneschal  |  [Vacant]

This Sphere bears the responsibility of organizing the diverse and abundant amount of talent that filters in and out of the Commonwealth. Moreover, its sole purpose is to establish a core of dependable resources throughout the realm that may be called upon in times of necessity — or even for mere recreation.

Alchemists & Mages

When appointed, Alchemists and Mages serve the court by advancing arcane study, potioncraft and magical research. They are responsible for advising on magical matters, maintaining enchanted wards and items.

Tailors

When appointed, Tailors are entrusted with the creation, maintenance and regulation of attire within the court. They work with the Royal Couturier and may be consulted for official events.

Professors

Professors are granted authority over formal instruction and scholarly development in the court. They educate wards, apprentices and officials in their respective fields, ensuring knowledge is preserved and passed on accurately.

Medics

Medics serve as the primary caretakers of health within the Court and the Commonwealth at large. They provide treatment, oversee recovery, and advise on preventative care for nobles, wards and citizens alike.

Librarians

Librarians are entrusted with the preservation, organization, and protection of the Court’s records and knowledge. They maintain archives, oversee access to sensitive texts, and assist scholars in research.

Blacksmiths

Blacksmiths are responsible for forging, maintaining, and repairing weaponry, armor, tools and ceremonial metalwork for the Court and Levée.

Stewards

Due to the frequent cooperation of the Autumn Court and the Rivienso Office of Stewardry, Stewards are to be considered Courtiers and valued members of the Sphere of Disciplines. Despite their inclusion in the Court, Stewards still remain under the purview of the Grand Treasurer and High Steward.

THE SPHERE OF REVELS

Leader of the Sphere of Revels — Festwarden  |  Lady Alma Therese Reinhold

This sphere is entrusted with the upkeep of the Pétrine spirit and ongoing practice of their traditions.

Curator of Revelry  —  All Courtiers of the Autumn Court

The Curator of Revelry will act as one of the skilled hands of the Festwarden, taking a direct part in planning and organizing events and festivals in the lands of The Commonwealth.

Royal Etiquarian  —  [Vacant]

None can hope to uphold the proper etiquette of la Courteis d’Autuagn if they are not properly educated. The Royal Etiquarian will work to ensure each and every Pétrine man and woman feels confident and comfortable amongst their neighbors in the court.

Master of Cuisine  —  Cinnamon’Ox o’Nico

The Master of Cuisine will ensure that all festivals and events held at the Festwarden’s direction are properly equipped with all those meals, treats, and beverages befitting of a celebration in The Commonwealth.

Court Herald  —  Belegar Grandaxe

This role will serve to directly assist the Festwarden in spreading the word of upcoming events being held within our great city — through word of mouth, missives, posters, and by visiting our neighbours around the continent.

Royal Enlumineur  —  [Vacant]

The Royal Enlumineur will serve to create magnificent festival grounds as well as decorations for other events where needed, ensuring each space is beautiful in its own right.

 

 

HONORIFICS OF MASTERY

 

For Courtiers to be deemed Masters, they must have shown exceptional skill, dedication, and loyalty to the people of the Commonwealth. Those who are awarded by the Autumn Court are to hold a revered suffix title for life. These designations are solely granted to the person in recognition of exceptional ability.

The suffix honorifics are able to be used on official documents penned by Pétrine institutions, as well as personal documents signed by the holder. They denote traditionally a senior member of the Courts and trusted advisor of the sitting leader of the Sphere. Note that the sitting Grand Chamberlain, as well as the reigning sovereign of the Petra, may strip these titles should the awarded person be deemed no longer deserving. Where the recipient has no distinct title, they may use it as a Prefix instead.

WARDSHIPS

 

With such a host of knowledge to offer, the many masters and leaders of la Courteis d’Autuagn will be given the opportunity to work with the Royal Governess in taking wards under their tutelage. When accepted, wards will be expected to study in the ways of their master, shadowing them in that work which is relevant to their position.

Beyond simple tutelage in their respective skills, Masters will guide their wards toward being an upstanding member of la Courteis d’Autuagn. Through work with their Masters as well as the Royal Governess and Royal Etiquarian, each ward will be instructed to become capable and well-mannered members of the court in their respective fields.

 

 

THE COURT SUMMITS

 

Exclusive to Courtiers, the Spheres are to meet to discuss the next step in how Petra will operate culturally, with an inclusive atmosphere with an open forum of ideas on the improvement of Petra’s activities, as well as to experiment with potential new pillars of Pétrine society. Every Saint’s Month, a summit of the Commonwealth’s Courtiers will be gathered to chart and plan the next four years of the Autumn Court’s celebrations, events, and practices.

"They update their papers again, curious.... Why is 'librarians' so littul though....?" She chittered to herself as she simply carried the parchment down into the depths of the library with her. Vanessa reads the missive, as usual. A proud smile escaped her. "Education really is the key to everything, hrm..." She folds the paper, huffing. "But... Royal Governess? Will take me a while to get used to it. - Time to get to work."

The Master Ecologist smiles to the paper, happy to see such a thing grace her desk. Hope fills her heart, for this and much else, for the first time in years. The future wasn't as bleak as it had been, and Alma finds herself pinning the notice to her wall. A reminder to her of what future she wants to work towards. One of lush lands, feeding healthy people.

Delphine Carnelle Jagiellon reads the notice once. Then again. Beaming, she gazes towards the Palais, its spiralling turrents and glistening walls painted against the clear blue sky.

"I think home might be about to get a little busier..." She thinks to herself, before turning back to the various roles and positions available. Squinting, she eyes one in particular, tapping it thrice with a finger, and smiling to herself, before turning around, and heading back towards the palace, a spring in her step.
