Top five things in an application:

1. The biography. People need to have a new unique character that can bring more to the game, NO MORE "MY PARENTS WERE KILLED BY ORCS" But I won't deny just because of that.

2. RP experience. If you can't rp, you aren't wanted.

3. Grammer/spelling. I hate rping with someone that can't spell, unless of course it is part of their character such as orcs.

4. Not powergamming, "my character can read and write and farm and mine and fight and is very smart and ... ya...

5. Knowing and understanding the rules, and most mechanics of the game.

I hope I can help in anyway, this is a great server and I would like to see it grow. :)

What do you think are the top five things, that are most important in an application and why?

-1-

-Biography:

The Biography is one of the most essential things whenever looking at an Application, It should fit in with the lore and be realistic, yet be original in itself. A Biography should show that you have taken time to think out your character, and time to make a good application.

-2-

The Answer to the Application Questions:

How someone fills out their questions is a great way to find out how they will react when/if they get accepted onto the server. A person should take time to fill out his questions with more then one-word, blunt, answers. The Answers can show if that person will take time to develop and work to become a better roleplayer if he gets accepted to the server.

There's reasons for the small acceptance ratio for this Server, and people who take five seconds on their application is one of them.

-3-

-What do you know about roleplaying?

-What other server(s) have you played on and why did you leave them?:

What a person knows about roleplaying is a important thing, as it shows that the person will know what he's doing if he joins, and the server history of a person can help you find out their character. If a person's been banned from every other server she/he's played on for fly-hacking and griefing, It shows alot about his/her character. If he's/she's been on a various amount of roleplay forums, it also shows something about his/her character

-4-

Character Personality and Skills:

A Character that's a jack of all trades, though it can happen, is fairly unlikely, A realistic personality, and skills that fit in with their biography are important. If a person says she/he has perfect mining, farming, tree-cutting, and can smell people's name and address from that, it wouldn't make sense. But if she/he had a well-thought reason in his Bio about how he/she learned to do what he does, without any powergaming, ect. That'd be a different story.

-5-

Proper Format, and the Overall Behavior, Demeanor, and Maturity.

A person should follow the proper format, and the rules for Applications whenever they're filling them out. If a person shows a disregard for the Format, and obvious rules that are stickied/posted, It doesn't help their chances any. Also, If a person shows immaturity, and a inappropriate behavior, while writing their application, it diminishes their chances even more. If a person wants to join the server, they should atleast try to do a good job on their application, and not blow through the questions without a second thought.

What do you think are the top five things, that are most important in an application and why?

(in order of importance)

1. Biography. The MOST IMPORTANT thing on an application it tells you how creative, intelligent, and how badly they want to play on the server. First, the more creative they are the better role playing they will most likely do thus cause more things to do on the server. Second, the more intelligent they are they will probably enhance the role-playing experience by using proper grammar and less likely to do things that will get them banned. Last, the longer the biography means they actually want to play on this server, spend time on it, and help create a better server overall.

2. Grammar. Grammar is very important in a role-playing environment. Such as an Orc needs bad grammar and an Elf should have very intellectual grammar.

3. Special Skills and General Skills. No one can just be a superhero that can farm, build, kill, read, wright, and basically just do every thing. There has to be limits and that is a very important part of a application.

4. Name the 4 races on the server. Its shows weather or not they read the lore IFF they post something about there actually being 5-6 races. Because of the Undead and Ascended.

5. What do you know about Role-playing. It tells weather or not they understand THE MAIN REASON for this server and if they have experience in this type of gaming.

What are the top 5 things, that are most important in an application and why?

1. Quality of Biography: When I read applications I look for quality. While I want biographies to be at least a paragraph I'm not as concerned with length more with quality. A person can write a novel that's very poorly written or a sentence that speaks volume. I want people to write a biography with quality. That will show they are good at RP. If in just a paragraph you can let me know your character you most likely can do that in RP too.

2. Grammar: While I understand missing commas or an occasional spelling error I can't get past an application that has things like "I want 2 join ur server so bad PLZ!!!!" it's just immature and makes me picture someone who spends more time texting instead of learning decent English. Good grammar is like the icing on the cake. No matter the flavor, if a cake looks bad on the outside you probably won't want to try it.

3. Fits the Lore: I don't expect an applicant to be an expert on how Aegis operates, you learn much of that after playing, but, I do expect them to have at least read what was so thoughtfully typed and posted on the website. It's so easy to find and doesn't take long to read. If they can fit their character bio into the lore I know they have read it. The skin, which is my 4th important aspect, must fit the lore as well.

4. Quality of Application in General: I think it is important that the application looks like they put time and effort into it. This includes the skin (appropriate), the format, and how the article flows. If they put effort into it it should be easy to read and be smooth. The app is like the prologue to the book of their characters life. If the prologue doesn't make the reader want to keep reading they put down the book. Also, if they have a quality app it will portray a proper attitude. Bad attitude makes something seem poor quality. No like an stuck up person who thinks they are God and can grab the stars. I think the app needs to be written with the attitude of I am hopeful to be accepted but not written as "I'm accepted already just need to wait for someone to get that" attitude. If they say things like "Yah my character can lift 20 tons and is the fastest most awesome person in Aegis" (complete over exaggeration but you get the point). Being superhuman isn't quality. Bad attitude isn't quality. Lack of effort and flow isn't quality.

5. Knowledge of RP: If they haven't actually RPed before I'm fine with that but I want them to at least know what it is and how to do it at a reasonably level. Their skin, definition of RP, and bio all play in to this. I don't think experts are needed to get on the server but I do think that if you can't come up with an original bio or a good definition you shouldn't be accepted. The app is like the test to see if you can get into an advanced class. You don't need to ace it but you need enough knowledge to show you will learn. If you show you have enough knowledge of RP to get into Aegis, Aegis will teach you what you don't know.

What do you think are the top five things, that are most important in an application and why?

1. The first and most important thing in an application is the background/resume.

This is because it offers more of a stable background to the person you are considering allowing to have privileges, such as a job, a college, or someone in a game. The possibilities are endless. Having begun applying to Prep School, I noticed that the bulk of the application was background, such as grades and personal achievements.

2. One of the vital statements for an application is (in my opinion) use of proper grammar and educate.

Schools and Jobs aren't going to be desperate and accept just anyone. You need to prove you're worthy and you have some sort of intelligence to benefit from what these two things have in common. If you don't use proper grammar, people won't know what your saying, and I think antonyms like OMG LOL ROFL make everything even more confusing. You learned proper grammar, what's the difference between using it on the internet or school?

3. Don't sound full of yourself, it's a real turn off. Have confidence, but don't be cocky. If you start making yourself out to be the greatest person possible, you won't be chosen. I speak for myself, because this happened to me all the time. Also, being humble is always fantastic. Don't make anything seem fake. As my mom always says, "You catch more flies with honey than vinegar." Don't overly sap yourself up, just make sure you're yourself.

4. Plagiarism Not Accepted! After going through a bunch of applications on this forum for the Server, I found that a lot of things that were clearly copied and/or paraphrased. The reason why this is, is people doubt themselves, making them feel like they won't even have a chance. You're better off being declined just once, and reapplying rather than getting banned for plagiarism. Especially nowadays, schools and work in general are really cracking down on plagiarism, many of these punishments lead to expulsion and legal issues. Not to mention, someone else could feel really bad that they couldn't get in because of you, or their permanent record was tarnished.

5. Being Yourself- I've said a lot about this, in this post, but that's the good thing. Being yourself is a sure-fire way to be wether it's online or in real life. If you're a kind and interesting person, let it be known! Don't be evil, or shrouded! When you talk with people, relate stories and your life with theirs, keep them entertained and give them a reason to like you and accept you. Also, make sure you have a sense of humor, otherwise you might be considered TOO serious. Make sure you are acting appropriately to the situation :)

Best of Luck to everyone, and I hope this helps you in the future, wether it be IRL or online!

What do you think are the top five things, that are most important in an application and why?

1. A good, non-aggressive, non-competitive personality. The community of Lord of the Craft is one of the most helpful groups of players I've ever been a part of. If a player doesn't sound like the kind of guy who, upon seeing a non-meta question in OOC, would immediately go to answer it, then he might not be the best fit for the server. I put this first because a good personality with below-average RP will still make the server a more enjoyable place, but good RP with an unhelpful or spiteful personality will usually make the server a less enjoyable place.

2. "What do you know about roleplaying?" I think the player's answer to this question shows a lot about how they will act in Aegis. A quick response of "D&D" or "RP faction on WoW" doesn't show much enthusiasm or commitment, but a full answer of "I regularly play D&D with a group of friends," or "I've played on the [RP server] WoW RP server, and my character was an extremely well-known diplomat." Even if they haven't roleplayed before, a good understanding of roleplaying is critical, and this is shown by describing what roleplaying is, in their own words.

3. A well-thought-out biography that fits into the lore of Aegis does two important things: it shows that the player understands the RP and lore of Aegis (and is able to see how he/she can fit into the lore), and to show how the player may act in roleplay situations. But in addition, I think another, often-overlooked function of the biography is to show how much of a power-gamer the player will be. Any character without flaws, however small, is not a complete character. Any player who thinks that a character without flaws is a sufficient developed character does not understand roleplay. A little bit of (non-villainous) greed, a bit of arrogance, a hatred of a certain group/nation/ruler, all give more depth to a character, and show that the player has really thought his/her character through.

4. Grammar and spelling, to show that the player is willing to put in the effort to make a good impression, but also to show that the player, ingame, will be capable of communicating both his/her own ideas, and the ideas of his/her character. If you can't communicate through text (as TS isn't usually regarded as RP), then it will be very difficult for you to interact with other players, and for other players to interact with you.

5. Originality: If an application plagiarizes anything from any other application (especially the default) or any other place on the Internet, that displays a certain mentality of cheating the system which doesn't show respect for the GMs, and more importantly, for other players.

That's what I thought... But it confused me when you refered to it at "his", so that made me think of it being specific name rather than what it really is.

Will you be adding more people to it when more people apply? I forgot to make an application and I kind of regret it if you won't be accepting more people onto the team.

Wait, is there a new Application Document or are the ones preexistant to the team not in need of sending our EMails as we are already on the App Team Document?

To the rest of you, yes. I will be bringing more onto the team. I want to see who who these people accept.
