An open letter to the Empire

[!] A public letter circulates throughout Norland

Dear Empire

Recently, my mind has been troubled, deeply and greatly. Ironically, it is only at the end of a war that the gravity of the situation that occurred appears to you.

I am not some great and noble philosopher, some master of words or great warrior. I am no one of great importance, what I am is a halfing, a traveller. I make no lie that I lived in Urgaun, and by proxy, I supported the Kingdom of Urgaun in the war, but looking back, I hold no hate for you, the people of the empire, for the hurt you did to me. How could I? There are too many of you for one. And I find holding grudges to be a deeply hurtful prospect for all parties involved, but make no mistake, I was hurt by your war. I did not raise a pitchfork at any of you, yet my home was invaded, granted we blew it up ourselves, so I can't blame you for that, close friends I knew have tried to kidnap me for the crime of simply being on the road, and far worse than this, I was prevented from travelling. My greatest passion was robbed from me.

Even with all these things, I know you are not evil, you are people of honour and respect just as much as you are people of hate. And even then, it is because of your mercy that a few of my halfing brothers live today. Even we here in Norland only really live because of your emperor's good grace. And for that I am grateful.

Even then, I will miss Urguan. I miss Amberdell and the smell of salt air. I miss my pile of garbage. I miss the Dwarves who protected us even before the war, who drank with us, laughed with us, and joked with us.

To the emperor I ask, with no expectation of receiving mercy and forgiveness for my people, and for the Dwarves of Urguan, and wish him a long and prosperous reign, and to the people of Norland who have been forced to read my frankly horrendous drivel, I can only apologise.

Yours, Albert Gallows,

currently living under the protection of Brunfell, Vassel of Norland

A halfling of the Empire, Arthur Littlewood, stumbles across the letter on his journey to Norland to supply the Imperial Legion. He reads it in earnest and thinks to himself, "So these weefolk 'ave taken refuge in Norland? This Brunfell? Mehbeh I should let them know about tha resettlement efforts..." He places the letter back on the noticeboard and goes about his business.

[!] Until the halflings are able to catch Albert for his yearly bath and get him up to date on his rabies shots, the shire cannot officially condone attempts to find and / or visit the mans.
