The sky above the lost city is no stranger to silence these days.

Deep within the forgotten realms, far beyond the kingdoms of men and their council chambers, the ancient gate begins its dance again. A tear in the fabric of the world itself. A corrupted archway of darkened stone, twisted by an age‑old power. Red light pulses through its fissures like veins carrying deadly energy.

Standing before it… is Ragtanatos.

The Dark Lord has not yet returned to the lands of Almaris. Not yet. The gate still needs to be completed.

Each night it grows larger. The skies above it warp and twist into unnatural shapes. Thunder rumbles in the void where no storm should exist, and whispers drift through the ancient city in utter silence, unmoving beneath black banners as if waiting for prophecy to be fulfilled.

Rumors speak of armor glimpsed inside the gate. Of red eyes watching through the void. Of the Dark Lord remaining silent and unmoving for days on end.

The rot spreads with every passing minute. Stone crumbles underfoot. Ash falls like snow upon the barren earth surrounding the gate. The very air feels sickly, heavy with the scents of rain, fire, and old blood.

But the gate is still not fully open. Not quite yet.

As long as the final lock holds, Ragtanatos remains trapped between exile and home, hearing the realms beyond slowly collapse into politics, corruption, and decay.

But the gate cracks wider. Bit by bit. Unavoidably.

And when it finally opens wide enough…

The Blackthorn Dominion will return to claim the lands anew.

 

The hunger for Emperian blood grows with every passing night.

My people gather in silence while the realms drown in politics and decay. None shall stand before the Blackthorn Dominion.

Bring me your armies, your futures, your kingdoms — all will rot beneath black banners.

I am Ragthanatos. And the gate will open.

The rumbling utterances of fear or interest could be heard within a tavern. Hushed talks about a dark lord that had been slowly making a name for himself- were interrupted by bragging! Youthful men joking about how they'd easily defeat such a being, and how their fathers had fought in the last war bravely against the legions upon legions of orcs- of course, how much of this was true could be seen in just how many orcs they had needed to fight. Rumours of the dark lord spread nonetheless, and farm hands- and commonfolk, could only wonder what would happen next- hoping it did not reach them.
