*You see a rather large scroll stood up against the frame of your bed*

Hello Person of Aegis, My name is Rutheniel, of the Elven House Alektanda, and I have left this scroll for you to read. Seeing as Ravenhold, as well as the Sister City, has recently been attacked, I shall hand over to you this, the history of my small town, Ampteris, in the hopes that if it is attacked as Ravenhold was, It's legacy will live on. And So, I shall begin to tell the tale of Ampteris.

Part One: The Roots

The spot that would eventually become founding place for the town of Ampteris was like any other place in the Wilds, overgrown with wild grasses and flowering plants. The entirety of the area was encircled by water, which could be walked alongside until one could nearly reach Laurlien itself, and was sparse for trees, oddly enough. An Elf, young and still eager to prove himself, even though he had been put down several times by his fellows for his ideas of building a safe haven in the Wilds, ventured forth from his home in the Capital City of Oren, Al'Khazar, as he had moved away from the constant clamor of his kin in Laurlien. He wandered around the Wilds for days, then weeks, subsisting only upon the wild apples that grew upon the trees, until he walked up upon an island, the spot where Ampteris would start to built, and knew he had found the perfect spot for his haven. He immediately set to work building a cottage for himself, in which he could stay safe during the night. This house was initially built from the few trees that grew upon the island, though he spared the largest of them and planted many more. It was this house that would eventually become the smithy, where many a blade would be forged. At that moment though, all he used the forges for was to create glass for windows. He grew proud of his work, his little cottage with it's nice glass windows, and ever more so, he grew glad that he had set out to explore in the Wilds, for much had they yielded to him.

Part Two: Alone

After spending the next few days asleep, for he was very much tired from both building and from the long march he had taken in order to get to where he was, the elf decided to explore the island further. He poured over every detail of the island with vigor. He saw a faint glow coming from a nearby cave. As he crept forward, wary of cave-ins, he found the source of the light in the dark, a single, nearly burned up torch. He found several other caves as well, all of which had burned out torches, something he found a bit unnerving, along with a very decrepit house. The floor of it had nearly sunk into the ground and was partially made of trampled earth, and the walls were made of long rotted wood, with bits and pieces of stone interspersed along with it. Decrepit as it was though, the Elf knew it was bound to belong to someone, and so he did not so much as touch it. Though he explored further, he found nothing else of value.

For the next intermittent months, he dug a mine until he could dig no further, and then moved back and forth between there, Laurlien, and Al'Khazar, buying all that he could not find on the island. Several travelers also passed through during this time, but none of them ever decided to stay. The Elf grew lonely by himself, so he started to stay in an all around nice place called the Treetops Inn, which still stands to this day, near Laurlien. It was here he finally made friends in several persons. These people were Alys, a fellow elf, Torok, a human, Thistel, now a druid, Alvy, a man of armor, and Darrius, a dwarf. He spoke with all of them frequently and happily. He worked up his courage and finally asked them if they would wish to join him, out there in the Wilds. Of them, only Thistel, Alvy, and Darrius agreed to go with the elf. Yet, that was not to be. Not soon after they had set off for the island, a call to arms was issued, and they responded hastily to it. A great and grievous battle was fought at an undead stronghold. Many lives were lost then, but the four survived still, though seperated were they. The elf found Darrius, bereft of most of his belongings after a fireball burned them away, but saw nothing of Alvy or Thistel after the battle.

After a week and a half of recuperation and retrieving items lost, both Alvy and Thistle were both unable to be found, but Darrius and the elf were once again ready to go out to the place he had found. and Darrius set to work building a house of his own, while the elf busied himself finding things they would undoubtedly need for the village that was now springing up

And that does close the current history of the town of Ampteris. Peace reigns there for the moment, and much land is open for those who wish to settle therein. I do hope for someone to... Whether they be Orc, Elf, Dwarf, or Human, it matters little...

Good Day to You and May Fortune be Found.

-Rutheniel Alektanda
