Regarding The Slums

I know this is odd to say, but I hate how the slums look in all honesty. They just look bad, and not in a roleplay "Oh this slums are so disorganized and grotesque." But instead they are bad in the sense that they feel like they are houses someone would build on their first day playing minecraft. They are incredible bland and boring, far too organized to be where the poorest of the poor are setting up houses made up of scrap material.

What we have are formula made houses that are akin to this:

When we should have slums that look more like this:

Bits and pieces of materials, some logs, some lumber, a bit of stone here and there. They should also be stacked up not in neat rows. I would love to see some misshapen houses in the slums to be two or three stories high and have them connected to each other by flimsy bridges and crowded together to form tight ally ways.

Besides that I really disagree with building the slums first but I can't really complain in character about that at this point. We should have built the castle first; a nice sturdy keep with strong walls at a high position that our people could live in for a while. That way we could have prevented that whole Orc crisis by having somewhere secure to be living in. Then we should have moved to the housing of the nobles and built that up so that they are made without any significant size restrictions and out of good materials. Then we could have moved onto the main middle class housing to give to the bulk of our current population since they deserve nice housing for sticking with us through the move. After that we should have used the rest of our resources to go into making the slums.

I would love if we could just concentrate our resources on a keep for the time being. It's not like we are even close to being a liked nation, in fact we are probably going to be attacked countless times in the upcoming weeks, and if we don't give ourselves some better security and work faster on building our city then I doubt we will be a nation by the time February rolls by.

The slums are meant as a beginner area the point is to get what you need and get out the monks will want their land back you know! Try not to make this a permanent area for people to stay.

Edit: sorry i just realised this is a completely different area you are talking about disregard this.

I agree completely with you Zebanamana, the slums that are being created by spawn is just revolting. I don't know if the residents of the villages know where their race's kingdoms are, or how amazing they look. I can't find a way to understand why people would like make small, compressed homes that are practically next to one another, compared to their capital. I've traveled to most of the kingdoms and they all look amazing and all seem to have flat land, making it idea for building NORMAL homes. Also, another rising issue in the slums are now facing is the huge amount of thief. As well as the new 'public mine' which is just turning the ground till the level on which you need a permit to mine, into Swiss cheese, full of endless tunnels and rooms. If you apply this mine on a realistic level, the fact it's so close to the surface and being mined in the manner it is now, without support beams, the mine itself would collapse and destroy most of the slums above it.

^I agree with most of what you said but you can't actually build on the flat land without permits. And if you are talking about that free land area's(in the Dwarven kingdom) public mine, I don't agree with that either as it has supports almost everywhere except for in a cave that they found while mining. That doesn't have supports because it was built and regioned by GMs before the mine was made so they(the miners) can't build supports there.

I really liked the atmosphere of the Al'Khazar slums, but they were way too expensive, something like 10000 minas each. I like Zebs idea of disorganized slums, but we can also build slums in the future that have good atmosphere and cheaper prices, but make the houses themselves really small.

Just wait and you will see the result.

I am willing to wait, it's just I hate how cookie cutter they are. They don't have any flare that would make people enjoy them and their looks. Their charm lies in having a material pallet that hurts your eyes. I do hope it gets work done for the better.

And yes the Renatus City Slums.

Im not actually part of the capital yet, but I hope to be soon. I've seen the slums and a minor feature that I think would help, would be a few dilapidated and underground houses.

I hope you don't mind me giving my opinion on a national matter such as this.

P.S I really want to join Renatus in the near future.

Currently I am the only one working on the slums, But for now I stopped with that because I have other things to build inside the city.

After all that, I will resume building the Slums.
