Small 2-3 Sentence Description of yourself:

I am a college student studying biology, contemplating whether or not to pursue a medical degree. I love Minecraft, and gaming in general. I started playing Minecraft a little more than 2 years ago. I've never done roleplaying before, but I'm quite confident that I'm capable of learning to do so, and very excited about learning more about it.

How much time could you be on the server weekly?:

Around 7-8 hours. Possibly more depending on the week.

What do you know about Roleplaying? Give a definition of what it means to you.: ok I spent ages on this

Roleplaying is the act of assuming the character of someone else (fictitious or otherwise), and behaving as they would. Roleplaying in the sense of gaming generally means acting out a player-created character in a game, and navigating their character through the world of the game, while interacting with other roleplaying characters.

In your own Words, describe what Metagaming and Powergaming are.

Metagaming is the use of knowledge a player's character would have no way of knowing about. That is, using OOC knowledge to further one's status in the game world. An example would be a medieval character that proposes to create a power source using nuclear fission without prior knowledge of modern chemistry; the character used player knowledge that he wouldn't otherwise have had access to.

Powergaming is when a player engages in a roleplay scenario with a player and doesn't allow the other player to have adequate control during the scenario or in the outcome of the situation; this causes the roleplay to be one sided and the outcome to favor only the powergamer, due to the fact that he alone is forcing the outcome. An example would be if during combat, a player roleplays that his character is always able to overpower or counter his opponent, no matter what the other player does. A slightly different example would be if the powergamer doesn't allow the other player to respond to his actions in the battle, or disregards how the other player is roleplaying the scenario, always forcing the outcome in his favor. Powergaming is not fair because a player's character shouldn't always win a battle, or come out favorably in every roleplay scenario, otherwise it causes the character to become unfairly overpowered, and prevents other players from having fun while roleplaying.

In-Character:

Character Name:

Harlequin ,son of berathor

What is your Race?:

Wood elf

Biography(This should include the history of your character and his life as well as age, appearance and personality, etc.):

Harlequin is a male wood elf of 26 years. He is attractive, no more or less than any other elf, which is to say that he is stunningly handsome compared to males of the other races. His fiercely green yet deeply understanding eyes are framed by his fair hair, high cheekbones, and angular face. His mouth is usually surrounded by a lightly stubbled beard harlequins skin, and that of most of his descendants, is light, much lighter than a usual wood elf's nut-brown skin. Several times along his lineage an ancestor married a beautiful wood elf which seems to have resulted in slightly fairer than usual complexion. However, harlequin inherited the shorter stature and slight build of his wood elf ancestors, measuring slightly over 6 feet, with a slender, yet sturdy body build harlequins personality tends to be introverted, and he is generally very calm, collected and rational, but when angered he can be quite rash. He is very inquisitive, and greatly enjoys listening to the stories and knowledge of another.

Harlequin was born in a small wood elf village tucked away in a forest near to anor.. Most of his short life has been spent in that village with his father Rhomdor and mother Lona, living among modest blacksmiths and farmers. Harlequins father is a maker of houses, a highly skilled one at that, and his mother is a accomplished weaver. As a youth, harlequin worked in the workshop that neighbored the forest, tending to the metal and leather, and he later became an apprentice to the master blacksmith gloriandel

Aside from his parents, an important and greatly influential figure in harlequins life was his grandfather, and namesake, whom he was very close to. Sadly, he died shortly before his grandson's 10th birthday, at the ripe age of 102 .galafer the Senior was a wood elf that was well known in the village for being a polymath in a wide variety of disciplines, chief among them archery, swordsmanship, engineering, and meditation. He was also deeply intrigued by magic, and worked with a scholar in Elandriel who was researching magical theory. Harlequin greatly enjoyed the company of his grandfather, and would spend almost all of his free time visiting him in his tall oak treehouse near the center of his village.

Harlequin was mentored in many things by his grandfather; he first shot a bow in the garden under the oak tree, where his grandfather would frequently train or spar with him, much to the displeasure of his parents, who thought of combat as unnecessary and unfit for young elf. Harlequin also became very dedicated to the meditation and relaxation exercises his grandfather had fit in his daily routine. Galafer the Senior didn't practice religion (it was one of the few things he had no interest in), but he deeply believed in the power and importance of one's individual spirit, and frequently reminded his grandson of the importance of a healthy mind. Vrael's fondest memories of his grandfather are of the journey they took together to Elandriel one spring; Harlequin was 17 at the time. His grandfather showed him the beautiful architecture and engineering of the city, and introduced him to several old friends of his who resided in Elandriel. When his grandfather died, Harlequin promised to himself he would lead a life that his grandfather could have been proud of. He realized he wanted to learn most about archery, his interest piqued by the tales of elven marvels his grandfather had anecdotally learned about. He longed to travel, and see the lands he had heard only about in stories.

Harlequin's relationship with his parents became increasingly distant over the years, especially after the death of his grandfather. This is due mostly because he had become dissatisfied with his quiet life in the forest, and desired more than what his village could offer him. His parents, however, wished for him to stay in their village and become an architect like his father; this idea was not appealing to harlequin. He recently set out on his own, about 4 years after his grandfather's death, with plans to travel first to Elandriel, revisiting the sites he experienced there with his grandfather.

Your characters ambitions:

To travel the land, searching for an adequate way of life and deeper meaning of his existence, as well as to gain a more practical knowledge of archery, and learn more about the culture of Asulon in general. Harlequin aspires for knowledge, as well as adventure.

Out in the Wilds, your character comes across a small cottage. Outside, there appears to be an elf struggling combat with two bandits. What does your character do?

As harlequin walked along a dusty forest path in the Wilds of Asulon on he admired the grand architecture of a small cottage beside the road

As harlequin passed it, he heard a cry of distress echo from somewhere behind the cottage. Fearing that the inhabitant was hurt somehow, he ran around to the back of the house. In the garden was an elderly male elf being accosted by a burly male human with a large scar on his forehead, and what seemed to be a scrawny orc. The man was holding a short, straight dagger to the elf’s throat while the orc searched her pockets. He shouted, “Let go of her, you scum!” Both of the villains looked up, surprised. The orc let out a hiss, and drew the crude bow that had been strapped to his back. He nocked an arrow, and pointed the bow at harlequin. “This doesn’t concern you, elf. Be gone, or my friend will kill you!” the man cried. Harlequin was un-concerned . He knew it wouldn’t be right to flee, so he drew his own bow. “No, I won’t leave. Let the elf go!” harlequin said. The orc shot his arrow, and Harlequin flinched. The arrow whizzed passed him Harlequin loosed his own arrow, hitting the orc in his lower abdomen, near his right kidney. The orc cried out, and turned and fled, stumbling over his own feet.

“Flee, or I’ll run you through,” said harlequin. The man, clearly perturbed by what the skinny harlequin had done, backpedaled then turned and ran in the same direction as the orc had fled.

Your character walks up to a shop in a quiet market. "Hello, my good sir!" says the shop owner. "What may I help you with today?" How does your character answer?

Vrael entered a small provisions store, and approached the counter, behind which sat a squat, overweight man with bloodshot eyes.

“What can I help ye to today, my fine elf fellow?” bellowed the shopkeeper said

“Greetings. Have you any food? I would like to purchase some light rations for on the road,” Vrael told the man.

The shopkeeper got up from his stool behind the counter and said, “Course"

The man went to the storeroom behind the counter, stumbling slightly, and rummaged around for several minutes, then came out with the food, wrapped in thin linen. He handed it to Vrael, his hands slightly shaking. “Anythin’ else for ye?”

" no thanks my kind sir"
