Out-Of-Character

Minecraft Account Name:

ktccd

Did you attend minecon and sign up at the LOTC booth?:

No, Minecon is a bit out of reach from my continent XD.

How old are you?:

19 (.6 or something)

Time-Zone/Country of Residence:

+1, Sweden

Do you have a good grip on the English language/good grammar?:

Yes, I'm often taken for an Englishman because of it.

Small 2-3 Sentence Description of yourself:

I'm a student, on his way to becoming a computer engineer and I enjoy all nerdy things. From games, reading and roleplaying, to programing and manga. I also like to make awesome redstone stuff in minecraft.

How much time could you be on the server weekly?:

Depends on my workload in college.

What do you know about Roleplaying? Give a definition of what it means to you.:

I've roleplayed (mostly tabletop) for years and I've been a dungeon master for even longer. I define roleplaying as acting out another person, in a fictional setting. A chance to pretend to be someone you're not, do things you otherwise wouldn't and to be the main character of a story your dungeon master loosely narrates.

In a minecraft POV, it is to be part of a larger story, strung together by the adventures and daily affairs of dozens of other roleplayers, in a setting defined and structured by the staff of the roleplaying server.

In your own Words, describe what Metagaming and Powergaming are.

Metagaming is to act, not as your character, but as yourself. You bet that cake is poisoned? Well, if your character trusts the person and loves cake, he would likely eat it, but a metagamer would find some excuse not to.

A powergamer is even worse, I avoid RPing with such players altogether. The textbook example is two kids fighting, one saying he uses lasers, the other saying he has laser shields. The first kids says his lasers are made of super laser and destroys them, the second says he has plasma shields and stops them. Both would be powergamers, god-moding their way through and not allowing a two-way RP.

What do you expect this server will be like?:

I expect a LotR theme, dwarves and all that. Unfortunately, I expect to find the majority of the dwarves scottish and all elves to be "humans, except better". I do hope I'm wrong though, this server has been warmly recommended to me.

What other server(s) have you played on and why did you leave them?:

Oh.... long list... Let's stick to the minecraft servers at least, and only RP ones at that:

Navia - I was there early, when it was magic and fantasy. Unfortunately, it devolved into some sort of "royalty RP" at a certain point. I resigned my staff position and left not very long after, seeking to find a server like the original Navia.

Mesalia - Mesalia was pretty much like the original Navia, it had very much a similar feel. I enjoyed a lot of RP here, but eventually fell out and resigned my staff position as I needed a break from RPing a little bit. I returned later, but I never got very "into" it and decided to leave quietly.

Retrofuture (something such, a steampunk RP server) - I left not very long after joining, as I felt the staff were not what I had hoped for and there was a lot more "kill on sight" than RP between factions it seemed. About 80% of all characters seemed to, if not enjoy then at least have no problem with, murder. Not quite my style.

Those are all the major RP servers I've been on. The list would be huge if we counted all Minecraft servers and my history as staff on them.

Have you read, understood, and agreed to the rules?:

Most, some are a question mark to me and I'd appriciate if you someone would clarify the following:

"PVP without RP is against the rules, including fighting with the Undead. This is up to the discretion of the GMs, but typically, several lines of speech are required for a legitimate RP kill."

Surely this means conversation, not pure speech? Gloating is something most evil masterminds do on TV, but do I have to prepare a proper speech to kill someone?

"You must use appropriate skins for your character and race."

I see this is probably to avoid having power-rangers running around, but would a normal human skin work for a dwarf? I can't make a "short" skin and I am unsure if all dwarves have large beards or if that's a personal preference amongst most.

How did you hear about us?:

Recommendations amongst my acquaintances.

Have you voted for the Lord of the Craft on Minestatus? Which vote number were you?

No, I tend to not vote for servers I do not have firsthand experience of.

What is your The Lord Of Craft forum account name?:

same as IGN, ktccd.

In-Character

Character Name:

Barsk Graal

What is your Race?:

Dwarven

Biography(This should include the history of your character and his life as well as age, appearance and personality, etc.):

I will edit this later, as I know very little about the history, culture and cities of dwarves on this server and I need to read up on it.

Please read the last section ^^.

Your characters ambitions:

His short-time goal is to improve his craftsmanship, whilst in the longer run he hopes to be widely renowned for his skills.

Out in the Wilds, your character comes across a small cottage. Outside, there appears to be an elf struggling combat with two bandits. What does your character do?

((This is assuming I am certain they are bandits in the first place))

He would charge at them and, unless there is a risk of hitting the elf, fling an axe at the bandits, and continue fighting with only one axe. Otherwise, he'd fight with both.

He despises bandits, and thieves in general, who live of others hard work and skill.

Your character walks up to a shop in a quiet market. "Hello, my good sir!" says the shop owner. "What may I help you with today?" How does your character answer?"I'm looking fer some fruit, fresh apples would do.", in a polite tone of voice.

A screenshot of your skin:

Will add one here once I've remade my skin. This one is a bit to fair-skinned for a hardworking dwarf. (Plus, my current skin has a black leather jacket and dark jeans, not entirely dwarf attire ^^)

Other Information:

If someone could point me in the direction of a collection of dwarf cities, important events and cultural traditions, that'd be nice. I'm at a loss for how to properly write a backstory for a dwarf at this server.

And, although I could do so as well, I'd rather not make it all up from scratch.

Allow me to go over some points you have concerns on:

The PvP rule is addressing those who either just kill for no fathomable reason or simply say a one liner and such. This rule is implemented so people will emote before their fight and, preferably so, RP the fight itself.

The skins rule is simply that: have an appropriate skin. Height, weight and miscellaneous other matters that cannot be properly expressed through skins are left to the imagination.

And simply visit our wiki which you can find by a simple click on our front page. Look to the dwarves race and read up about that. Incredulously historic events aren't necessary, it can simply be run of the mill with a nameless town where you had a simple life and simply one day moved out. We get too many "destined heroes" in applications as is.

And now to my concerns:

Your powergaming definition, albeit technically correct, isn't quite the definition our server looks for. You should easily find it by a glance at the rules, so that is hardily a detrimental factor.

And, next time you post an app, be certain to make sure the bio and skin is complete. I know you need research, but the point of the app is to post your completed character. Just a heads up.

The first ORQ would need a villain app to kill another without yourself first being provoked. You seem exceptional and I would likely trust you to do such a thing, but I can't bend the rules just because I have a feeling about you. Sorry brah.

The second ORQ also needs an amendment. An expansion specifically. With that question, we ask for a back and forth interaction with said shopkeeper with a few emotes here and there. It's very open ended, as is the first, so have fun with it.

Oh, and one last thing. Whatever you do, do NOT have a honeydew dwarf skin, original or recolor alike! Seriously, it breaks RP and shows complete lack or originality when one uses such a skin. I'm trusting you to put effort into that matter.

...And let me say... You have potential... A LOT of potential. I haven't seen a member this promising since Valer D'Avore (you can find her app in the application archive forum if you wish to reference it for an exceptional app). I see you reaching high places on this server and VERY eagerly await the finalization of this app. Best of luck to you!

((moving to denied for clutter purposes))
