Out-Of-Character

Minecraft Account Name:

My Minecraft account name is TheOneCharles

How old are you?:

I'm currently 17 years old.

Time-Zone/Country of Residence:

I live in Massachusetts, USA. GMT-5

Do you have a good grip on the English language/good grammar?:

Yes, English is my first language, and I always use proper grammar.

Small 2-3 Sentence Description of yourself:

I'm a fairly normal 17 year old guy. Love gaming, the outdoors and spending time with friends. As far as video games go, I play practically all varieties, but my favorites are rpgs.

How much time could you be on the server weekly?:

Well I'm a senior in high school, and I've already been accepted to college, so I'll be having a lot of free time throughout the rest of the year, and the summer. I could manage at least 20-30 hours a week.

What do you know about Roleplaying? Give a definition of what it means to you:

Well, literally it's taking the role of a character you make, and then staying in that role as you explore and interact with a world of other people doing the same thing. I've been a big fan of Roleplaying for a long time now, and it has come to have a fairly significant meaning for me personally. Being able to experience a new and incredible world with other people who share your own ambitions is incredible, and one of the most enjoyable gaming experiences I've ever had.

What experience have you had in Roleplaying, if any?:

I've had a fair amount, especially in Minecraft. The first server I started playing Minecraft on regularly, was a faux-rp server called HonorCraft. After a group of people became frustrated at the lack of actual RP in the server, they fragmented off with one of the old Admins to create their own heavily RP-based server, AreteCraft. I was among the first handful to be invited, and was a major contributor not only with the builds, but also financially and socially throughout the 3 month long building stage. Unfortunately, the server had to close down after a few months due to a lack of advertising and not enough new players. Nonetheless, that server was home to some of the best creations, people and Roleplaying experiences I've ever seen.

In your own Words, define what the act of Meta-Gaming is:

Meta-Gaming was a fairly big issue that came out of my old RP server, so I've encountered it a lot. Meta-Gaming is when someone takes advantage of knowledge that they have gained from some form other than through in-game RP, in order to give them some sort of advantage or take some action in-game. An example would be if someone found out the location of a secret hidden treasure from a friend IRL or OOC, and then uses that info to grab the treasure in-game with their character.

In your own Words, define what the act of Power-Gaming is:

Power-Gaming is when someone makes actions that are unrealistic/unfair in the RP, and prevents someone else from making their own actions. An example would be someone saying *I throw a rock at Bill, and he dies immediately*

What do you expect this server will be like?:

I expect this server to be a fun and mature community of other people looking for a deep and involving RP experience. I expect it to be one of the utmost examples of proper Minecraft RP, and upheld by a respectful and strong community.

What other server(s) have you played on and why did you leave them?:

I have played on many servers for various small amounts of time, but the servers which I have played on regularly before, have Been HonorCraft, AreteCraft, and a local server hosted by friends at school. I left Honorcraft because it wasn't a true RP server, as it was advertised, and I left AreteCraft because it became inactive. I only play on the local server very occasionally with friends.

Have you read, understood, and agreed to the rules?:

Yes I have.

Do you promise to abide by said rules, and laws? This includes the Server, Forum, and Teamspeak set Rules:

Yes, I fully promise to uphold and respect them.

How did you hear about us?:

I saw the server on Minestatus.net

Have you voted for the Lord of the Craft on Minestatus? Which vote number were you?:

Yes. I believe I was #2,322

In-Character:

Character Name:

Mattimeo Arant

What Race are you?:

I'm a Human

What Sub-Race are you? (note, you aren’t required to have a sub-race):

I'm one of the many, proud Southerons.

Biography (Please make this at least 2 paragraphs long. This must include the history of your character and his life as well as age, appearance and personality, etc.):

I was born into one of the many prosperous Southeron houses. I lived in a fairly small town, it was a very quaint and quiet place, almost exclusively filled with Southerons. I was unlike many of the other Southeron children my age. While some would apprentice at their parents’ workplaces, or study politics and business, I would wander the plains near my home, or search through surface caves. Of course I still attended school, and took an interest in the work of my parents, but it never truly struck me as what I wanted to become. I was not an entirely unusual child though. As with many Southerons, I have brown hair, blue eyes, and am rather fair skinned. I was fairly soft-spoken, and patient, but also a natural with a sword, and never one to ignore a threat against me or my friends.

I always loved to explore the many forests not far from town. They would never be all too safe, with wandering spiders and skeletons, but it was nothing I couldn't handle at the ripe age of 18! With my sword in one hand, and torch in another, I would simply wander for hours, dreaming of someday leaving my boring old home, and discover the world on my own... But one day during my normal hike, I walked under a large tree, only to look up and see a nest of giant spiders quickly descending towards me! Striking a couple back, and waving my torch in front of me in desperation, I slowly realized I was outnumbered, and most likely fated to end my travels a mere 2 miles from my home. Luckily, a nearby wood elf noticed my flailing struggle, and planted arrows cleanly into each of the remaining spiders, and freed me from my dire situation. He introduced himself as one of the Rangers of the Forest, and we sat together to talk for an hour over some bread and mead. He told me of the wonders of Asulon, the great guilds, the beautiful human cities of Alras and Solace, and even the wondrous Cloud Temple Sanctuary and its benevolent monks.

It was this encounter which drove me to take action. I felt the call of the mines, the cities, and the open world, all driving me to come and explore them. A few years passed, during which I took my time to gather my things, and plan my departure. At the age of 22, I threw on my backpack, tossed my trusty red bandana around my neck, and headed off into the forest, without telling any of my friends or family beforehand. I always try to travel light, to see the world of Asulon openly and clearly. I’ve come to learn many people on my journey, and my interactions with the various wood elves back home, have made me more open to any and all cultures. However, maybe it’s time that I find somewhere to settle down, at least for a little while.

What is your Character's ambitions?:

To explore Asulon, and to provide aid and companionship to anyone I may discover in my journey. I would also like to perhaps settle down in a city, find some good food, and take a rest from my arduous journey.

What is your character’s favorite tool? (sword, pickaxe, shovel, etc):

A sword always felt most natural in my hand. A fair, agile, and beautiful weapon, designed to keep me and those I care about safe. Although of course, I'm always happy to feel the strong heft of a pickaxe in hand to mine out a few riches!

What is one of your Character's most skilled talents?

Navigation and survival, in areas both rural and urban, seem to be an innate talent. I've always been one to use my prosperous education, training, and background in any dangerous or undesirable situation I find myself in.

Other Information about your Character:

I'm a man who finds pleasure in many things, whether that is spending time with others, working hard in the mines, or building grand structures. I'm not one to scoff at anyone else's work, and expect others to provide me with that same courtesy. That being said, I'm not someone who'll stand idly by when someone insults or attempts to bring harm to anyone I care about. I try to always leave one hand on my scabbard.

Open-Response-Questions

Whilst traveling from the Cloud Temple you see a small halfling, being harassed by two armed warriors. They appear to be trying to steal money from him, how does your character respond?

I'm never someone to hesitate when I see someone in danger, and holding my experience with the ranger in mind, I approach the three and immediately confront the two thugs. I'm always polite at first, but as soon as anyone shows hostility or rudeness towards me, I tend to... light up. If negotiation doesn't work, I'm going to be ready with my sword before anyone else is, that's for sure!

Your character wanders into Alras, and comes across a small stall, behind which a well dressed man is standing. He’s offering various wares, the merchant turns to you and says in a posh accent " 'ello there, what can I do you for today?" What is your character response?

As I said, I like to travel light, and generally don't purchase anything from shops which I could possibly find or create on my own. I'll greet the shopkeep politely, and unless he has anything truly remarkable or rare, I'll offer to sell some of the items I've acquired while wandering. I love bartering, and I can always appreciate making some minas off my hard work and talents.

Whilst wandering in the wilds, your character comes across a small hut, which looks abandoned. Inside it you see a chest containing a few iron bars, and a golden sword. How would your character respond?:

I would look around the building, and using a few tips the Ranger taught me, check the house and surroundings for tracks or marks. I hate thieves and bandits, and would never want to be mistaken for one. If it looks like the house is truly fully abandoned, I'll take a couple ingots for some supplies, and maybe leave a note. However, if there's the slightest sign of someone else's presence, I'll leave quickly, not wishing to trespass.

Hungry and lost in the wilderness, you stumble across a small trading camp nestled among the forest, they greet you you in the common tongue, how do you respond?

I would show them that I have minas and tools, and am more than willing to trade for some form of shelter and food. Hopefully they'll have an inn or somewhere where I can grab a nice mug of ale and a warm bed. If the place is nice enough, I may even stay for a few days and help the workers and traders out, free of charge. Hopefully I may even be able to hitch along a ride with one of the trade caravans and follow them to one of the cities. Much better than being cold and wet in the wilderness!

You hear word that bandits occupy the road outside the town in which you have been staying. The town guard have gathered, and are asking for assistance to help eliminate them. The leader of the party is offering a reward for any who offer their support. How does your character act on this information?:

I would gladly approach the guard captain, and offer my sword to assist with defeating the bandits. Any way that I could help remove scum such as these bandits, is certainly a cause I see to be worth backing. I would also go through town, attempting to recruit some more young heroes to help with the attack. The more support we have, the better chances we have at eliminating these damn thieves! Once the attack is over, I'll grab my pay, and move on to the inn to grab a round of drinks for all the brave souls and soldiers who made our roads safer!
