Out-Of-Character

Minecraft Account Name: gizzytausend

How old are you?: 17

Time-Zone/Country of Residence: GMT: UK

Do you have a good grip on the English language/good grammar?: Excellent, it is my primary language after all!

Small 2-3 Sentence Description of yourself: I am a keen gamer, both virtually and in real life. I play computer and PS3 games, as well as a lot of sport (particularly football), around which I study for my A-levels.

How much time could you be on the server weekly?: Odd hours on weekdays, and between 3 and 6 hours at weekends.

What do you know about Roleplaying? Give a definition of what it means to you: I have played games such as Skyrim and Oblivion, but recognise that that these only count as role playing if you treat decision making from a personal, moralistic and rational perspective. Apart from this, I am inexperienced and know little about the concept. An attempt at a definition is as follows: to assume the characteristics of a fictional character and live an existence acting of this character, rather than yourself.

What experience have you had in Roleplaying, if any?: I have little experience of Roleplaying games, but they have always interested me. Really involving oneself in a game, playing a role, is a great way to enjoy a more personal experience, explore the boundaries of the game and meet new people. It is something I really want to start, and this server seems to be the perfect environment for my birth onto the scene.

In your own Words, define what the act of Meta-Gaming is: Metagaming involves discussing something, or acting in a way, which was impossible for your character to understand or have any knowledge of.

In your own Words, define what the act of Power-Gaming is: With little knowledge, I have had to research this one. I believe powergaming invloves presuming that your character's actions towards a fellow character are successful, without giving the other character a chance to react and make their own decisions in order to influence the eventual outcome.Powergaming also includes godmoding (giving your character infinite life), cheesing (using powers which are not part of the game), power leveling (doing challenges or using experience to optimise the power and levels of your character, rather than just playing the game) and any other way of overpowering your character. Powergamers are often referred to as 'munchkins', as it is perceived that most powergamers are quite young. Powergaming should be avoided, as its no fun for anyone! It is often enjoyable to meet a superior foe sometimes, and to lose, but powergamers never experience this.

What do you expect this server will be like?: As there is such an in depth application process, I assume that all players will be very committed to server life. Furthermore, there will be few fleeting appearances from players; most will be long term members. I hope that some sort of story, atmosphere and relationships emerge from the fact that all players have distinct and individual roles in the server.

What other server(s) have you played on and why did you leave them?: I have conquered enemies on faction servers, fought duels on pvp servers, built towns on survival servers... Every server out there, I have had a go at. LOADS. In particular, MinecraftWorlds was where I clocked up the most game time, as well as a little on a Skyrim Roleplaying server which I really enjoyed. I move on from servers out of boredom, or because they are closed down, but hope to avoid this here as the server is so dynamic, involving and unique.

Have you read, understood, and agreed to the rules?: Yes, indeed!

Do you promise to abide by said rules, and laws? This includes the Server, Forum, and Teamspeak set Rules: Yes, of course! I vow so.

How did you hear about us?: A friend, Wobrote, who applies alongside myself.

Have you voted for the Lord of the Craft on Minestatus? Which vote number were you?: No, I'm afraid I have not. But if it is important, then I will do so as soon as I finish this application!

Have you posted this application on our minecraft forum thread yet? If not, just finish it up on here and then copy + paste is over there. (http://www.minecraft...-p-s-e-r-v-e-r/): Yes. Done.

In-Character:

Character Name: Gizzaard

What Race are you?: Elf!

What Sub-Race are you? (note, you aren’t required to have a sub-race): Wood elf.

Biography (Please make this at least 2 paragraphs long. This must include the history of your character and his life as well as age, appearance and personality, etc.): I was born into a small village on the outskirts of Normandor, to loving parents. However, I was born with a rare formation of greenish blotches across my head, which was believed by many to symbolise evil. As a result, my parents and I were sent from the village into the wilderness, as outcasts. The harsh climate made survival difficult, but my Father was a skilled forager and hunter, whilst my Mother had skilful hands. We settled on the banks of a small lake among a group of Nespian Toads, with whom my parents shared food and the secret of fire in return for shelter. Alongside these gentle creatures, who offered me warmth and protection, I grew strong. I learnt the tongue of the forest, rather than the language of my people, for it was more suitable in such natural surroundings. I became an accomplished swimmer and fisherman under the stewardship of the Toads, the water becoming my immediate home, whilst my parents taught me to use the blade, the bow, and to craft beautiful objects out of wood and twine. Carefree and content, it seemed as though we could live among the amphibian peoples for eternity. I was unaware that danger existed beyond my isolated paradise, where we seemed so safe.

However, one summer’s eve a group of Human raiders attacked the Toads and slaughtered them for their skins. My parents, who tried to protect them, were also struck down. I survived only because I had been hunting for shrimps downstream; I returned quickly as I heard screams only to find a massacre and rivers of blood. I hid beneath the roots of a great tree and wept for my family who had fallen to the steel blades. Even though the Humans had left, I remained under the roots, fearful that I would be struck down by an invisible enemy if I ventured out. Days passed.

As I grew thirsty, I was forced to leave my hiding place, and moved towards the lake I called home. As I reached its banks, I remained alert, still fearful of attack. Then I began to drink. The water was still murky with blood, and the bodies of my amphibian comrades floated in the shallows. But my thirst forced me to drink nonetheless, gulping down mouthfuls of refreshing liquid. Suddenly, I heard a crack of a twig behind me, and swung around to see a strange figure with a blade in hand. I cried out, a deep croak of anguish and fear. But I had nothing to be frightened of; the man lowered his sword and held out his hand.

His name was Tahl, a fellow wood elf. He took me to the village of my birth, where I was fed on bread and soup. The village was now welcoming, years had passed and superstitions had subsided. Rather than a freak, I was welcomed back as a lost friend. The whole village mourned as they learnt of the death of my parents. I mourned also. Tahl consoled me, and although I did not speak his language, I knew I could trust him. We became close friends immediately. For some time, we grew together. He taught me the language and the culture of the elves, whilst I showed him the ways of the forest. I learnt to use new tools and weapons which my Father had not shown me, and grew fit and strong on a wholesome diet. On the cusp of adulthood, we left the small village, together, to explore the world of Asulon.

I am now a lean young wood elf. Although my head is mutilated by green sores, my pointed elven ears remain unscathed, whilst my body is well toned and I am fair skinned with hazel eyes. My hair is naturally blonde, although I now dye it a leafy green in order to minimise the visibility of my disfigurements. This also gives me a sense of unity with the natural world in which I grew up. I wear simple garments of woven barks, avoiding flamboyance, and remaining in touch with the forest. I do not wear shoes, as stealth is essential and I grew up with bare feet.

What is your Character's ambitions?: To broaden my understanding of the world in which we live, experiencing the many cultures and traditions of the people and creatures of the land. Although I am bitter for the deaths of my parents and my Toad brothers, the pain has softened, and I do not seek immediate revenge on their killers. My close friendship with Tahl is now the most important thing in my life.

What is your character’s favorite tool? (sword, pickaxe, shovel, etc): Fishing rod, as it reminds me of the life I once lead on the banks of a small lake deep in an unexplored forest...

What is one of your Character's most skilled talents? An awareness and respect for the needs and voices of all the creatures of the forest, with whom I grew up.

A screenshot of your skin (must be in proper format): 2nak7j4.jpg

Other Information about your Character: I will adventure always alongside my friend Tahl, we must live and explore together. (Tahl is currently also applying to play on this server, under the name Wobrote)

Open-Response-Questions

Whilst traveling from the Cloud Temple you see a small halfling, being harassed by two armed warriors. They appear to be trying to steal money from him, how does your character respond? I do not involve myself in the conflict, interference in an issue of which I have no knowledge could be dangerous and foolish. Who knows why the halfling and the warriors disagree? However, once the altercation has subsided I approach the halfling and try to learn the details of the problem. If they need further assistance, I will offer them aid, be it material goods or merely advice.

Your character wanders into Alras, and comes across a small stall, behind which a well dressed man is standing. He’s offering various wares, the merchant turns to you and says in a posh accent " 'ello there, what can I do you for today?" What is your character response? Tahl and I have few possessions. Therefore, rather than attempting to buy the expensive goods, we ask the merchant whether we can help him in any way. With our experience and skill, we could transport goods, acquire supplies or offer him protection. Any opportunity to aid a fellow man, and to gain some money, must be taken.

Whilst wandering in the wilds, your character comes across a small hut, which looks abandoned. Inside it you see a chest containing a few iron bars, and a golden sword. How would your character respond?: We move on from the hut, we have no right to steal from anyone. However, if we return in the future and the loot is still untouched, we would take it. Spent unselfishly, or shared with the needy, the iron will be more useful in our hands than in an abandoned chest.

Hungry and lost in the wilderness, you stumble across a small trading camp nestled among the forest, they greet you you in the common tongue, how do you respond? We ask for food if they can spare any, and directions. In return for the help of the traders, we thank them and offer them any gifts which we can (despite our meager supplies), along with the promise of eternal friendship.

You hear word that bandits occupy the road outside the town in which you have been staying. The town guard have gathered, and are asking for assistance to help eliminate them. The leader of the party is offering a reward for any who offer their support. How does your character act on this information?: Of course we offer to help in any way we can. But as we have low supplies, and are not overly accomplished fighters we would avoid the front line. What help will we be if we are dead? If the bandits are defeated, we do not accept the reward. The town offered us their hospitality in allowing us to stay, so the least we could do would be to help defend it.
