Out-Of-Character

Minecraft Account Name:

MafyaKingpin

How old are you?:

22

Time-Zone/Country of Residence:

Mountain Time (Canada)

Do you have a good grip on the English language/good grammar?:

Indeed I do.

Small 2-3 Sentence Description of yourself:

My real name is Rex and I am a scientist, musician and party animal all wrapped up into one person. I have studied physics for the last 4 years of my life and am currently taking a break from that to see if my musical talents will take me anywhere in the world of electronic dance music. I am very friendly and social and love to play video games, hence why I am joining an RP Minecraft server.

How much time could you be on the server weekly?:

A couple hours every few days, but there might be periods of greater or lesser server activity now and then.

What do you know about Roleplaying? Give a definition of what it means to you:

Roleplaying is the art of immersing oneself in the conscience of a character not of their own and acting out accordingly. When many people do so together this can create a very diverse and beautiful community within a certain medium. In this case the medium is the enjoyable game of Minecraft.

What experience have you had in Roleplaying, if any?:

I have played many a single player RP games on Xbox360 and just last year I had started advancing my roleplaying skills into the realm of Minecraft on a server called Tales of Melenxia.

In your own Words, define what the act of Meta-Gaming is:

Meta-gaming is the act of using information (and possibly items) obtained by out-of-character means in-character. Say you were having an OOC chat with Sally where she mentioned that Tom tends to dance around the fountain tossing money to people every Sunday. If your character waits tentatively at the said fountain that next Sunday without having received this information IC you would then be meta-gaming.

In your own Words, define what the act of Power-Gaming is:

Power-gaming is the focus of personal achievements in-game rather than the enrichment of the roleplaying community. If you were to spend all your time online hunting diamonds and gold in hopes of becoming the wealthiest person then you would be power-gaming. Another example of power-gaming would be to make your character with no weaknesses and only positive attributes.

What do you expect this server will be like?:

Dangerously epic; Many days will be spent learning about the stories entwined within the server and getting to know the members of community.

What other server(s) have you played on and why did you leave them?:

As I have said before, I had been playing a role in the Tales of Melenxia but that server has just recently been shut down.

Have you read, understood, and agreed to the rules?:

Yes I have.

Do you promise to abide by said rules, and laws? This includes the Server, Forum, and Teamspeak set Rules:

I promise.

How did you hear about us?:

I know members of the Tales of Melenxia whom spoke of this server.

Have you voted for the Lord of the Craft on Minestatus? Which vote number were you?:

No I have not, sorry.

In-Character:

Character Name:

Thalvys LeMaark

What Race are you?:

I would like to play as a Mori'Quessir but I have a sense that they are not a playable race, so otherwise I shall be an Elf.

What Sub-Race are you? (note, you aren’t required to have a sub-race):

Dark Elf

Biography (Please make this at least 2 paragraphs long. This must include the history of your character and his life as well as age, appearance and personality, etc.):

Bio:

Standing at 6'10" and 150 lbs Thalvys is a smaller dark elf and is very nimble on his feet. He has a small build but is quite muscular. He has a very dark complexion (greyish, but nearing black), light grey hair and silver eyes. He has a few peircings and several tattoos on his body, one of which is over his left eye. He has a plaited chin beard (much like egyptian pharaohs had) and the hair on this head is braided back into a long ponytail.

History:

Thalvys was born to Gyrvais and Saville, a poor and struggling couple. His mother, Saville was a devoted worshipper of Vartalcum and worked as a farm hand. His father, Gyrvais was hardly ever around but still managed to supply for his family now and then. Thalvys knew little of his father apart from that he had a sister named Jek whom had been locked away for disturbing reasons. His mother warned him that she was very dangerous and on the verge of being insane. One sleepless night when Thalvys was about 15 he decided to go to the nearby fields to watch the moon. He was caught up in the silvery majesty of it when he heard a blood curdling scream from the house. He ran back and instinctively grabbed one of his father's spare swords from a rack outside and proceeded to enter the house. He entered to find a woman standing over the body of his mother, lifeless and sitting in a pool of blood. Everything went hot red. The next thing he remembered was being woken by his father who was a ghostly shade of grey and grimly assessing the scene. Gyrvais picked up Thalvys who was too weak to stand and took him from the house. The last thing Thalvys saw before passing out again was the woman he had found in the house, but limp on the floor, impaled by the sword he had been holding when he entered the house.

It had turned out that the woman was Gyrvais' sister, Jek, who had escaped the prison she had been held in to murder his parents. Thalvys' father didn't explain much more and asked him to forget about that night. Gyrvais soon had to reveal to Thalvys why he was never around as he felt he needed to keep Thalvys safe with Saville gone. It soon became clear to Thalvys that his father was a highwayman, working as the weapon-smith for a notorious bandit group in the elven forests. The rest shall soon be told in a continuation of the recollections of his past.

What is your Character's ambitions?:

My ambitions are to be an unexpected ally/foe and to surprise those around me. Cause a stir in the world. I am a lost soul at the moment and until I find a place to call home I will seek to be known, whether as a notorious assassin or even a generous business man... I could be anything in between, but I will become known by many.

What is your character’s favorite tool? (sword, pickaxe, shovel, etc):

I prefer a sword at my side.

What is one of your Character's most skilled talents?

My strongest passive skill would be problem solving and my strongest active skill is woodcrafting.

A screenshot of your skin (must be in proper format):

My current skin has been attached. I will most likely change it once I have a better feel for the community and setting.

Other Information about your Character:

None at the moment...

Open-Response-Questions

Whilst traveling from the Cloud Temple you see a small halfling, being harassed by two armed warriors. They appear to be trying to steal money from him, how does your character respond?

He walks up between the armed warriors ignoring their alarmed reactions and points at the halfling and yells at him "You give them you're money you stupid little halfling, or something bad will happen...". He waits for the halfling to grab his coin purse and pass it with a shaking hand to one of the warriors. He then swiftly stabs the idle warrior in the throat with the dagger he had concealed and then draws his sword to drive it through the stomach of the other. Then he calmly puts his sword away, retrieves and sheaths his dagger and picks up the coin purse, handing it back to the halfling saying "Sorry for calling you stupid" and proceeds along his journey.

Your character wanders into Alras, and comes across a small stall, behind which a well dressed man is standing. He’s offering various wares, the merchant turns to you and says in a posh accent " 'ello there, what can I do you for today?" What is your character response?

He smiles at the fellow and asks politely to see the dwarve's selection of spider eyes and as the shopkeeper rummages for the crate of ingredients my character proceeds to ask what local mead the fellow would suggest he try. Once he has made his purchase of a dozen spider eyes he would ask about any local rumours or of any interesting news. After asking a few more questions he would shake the mans hand and bid him farewell as he tosses him a gold coin saying "Your information was valuable, thank you!".

Whilst wandering in the wilds, your character comes across a small hut, which looks abandoned. Inside it you see a chest containing a few iron bars, and a golden sword. How would your character respond?:

He would take careful note of the state of the place and it's location then place a rock on top of the chest and leave. He would return a few days later and if the rock was still there he would remove the items from the chest and continue on, if the rock had been moved he would leave it be.

Hungry and lost in the wilderness, you stumble across a small trading camp nestled among the forest, they greet you in the common tongue, how do you respond?

He would ask if the people would be so kind as to spare him some rations and a place to rest in exchange for a payment or possibly assisting them with a job once you were fully rested. Then once the debt has been paid he would ask for directions back to a familiar location and take his leave.

You hear word that bandits occupy the road outside the town in which you have been staying. The town guard have gathered, and are asking for assistance to help eliminate them. The leader of the party is offering a reward for any who offer their support. How does your character act on this information?:

He goes to the bandits and speaks with them as he knows many of the men in the group and warns them of the impending guard attack. He tells them that if they do not leave they will be overrun. Once he convinces the bandits to clear out he would head back to the guards and tell them that he had taken care of the bandit threat and that if they wished they could go see for themselves. Then says to the leader of the party, "I'll be taking that reward now...".

Denied. Your definition of powergaming is not complete, it refers to another roleplay behavior you did not mention (along the lines of forcing outcomes). You may resubmit a modified application after 2 hours.
