Out-Of-Character

Minecraft Account Name: Friedhumanpie

How old are you?: 15

Time-Zone/Country of Residence: GMT, UK

Do you have a good grip on the English language/good grammar?: I have a good grasp of the English language, though I do feel that I quite often fall into a repetitive pattern during my writing, something that I am trying to avoid doing.

Small 2-3 Sentence Description of yourself: I am an outsider in my community, due to my love of computers, having few friends in real life and little-to-no opportunity to actively communicate within my community - most of my time is spent either doing schoolwork, or playing some form of video game -, and I avoid taking too much work upon myself at any one time. I have two dogs, and two guinea pigs, which I care for. I tend to waffle on a bit when writing, although I have no clue why I do that.

How much time could you be on the server weekly?: Somewhere between 7 to 14 hours, though that is dependent upon schoolwork and any other commitments that I may have, or make, and may dip below those hours.

What do you know about Roleplaying? Give a definition of what it means to you: Roleplaying is the action of placing yourself in the shoes of a character, an act where you put on their actions, thoughts, and feelings – be that character real or imaginary. When roleplaying, you interact with others and have to model your character’s reactions based on what they would do would they be real.

What experience have you had in Roleplaying, if any?: I have had experience roleplaying within the community of my previous server, and among friends who I made within that community.

In your own Words, define what the act of Meta-Gaming is: Meta-gaming is when you act out your character’s actions based upon information that was gained outside of the boundaries of roleplaying, for example: Your character walks into town somehow knowing that there is a sale on, despite living in the forest for months on end, and is discussing that matter before he even reaches the stalls. That information may have been gained over teamspeak, the forums, or any other way of communication, but it breaks RP.

In your own Words, define what the act of Power-Gaming is: Power gaming, so far as I know, has two definite applications: One is where your character is made to be, in effect, a god (or very powerful). The other way that term can be applied is when one person’s character, or any roleplay decisions, forces actions upon another player’s character or general roleplay.

What do you expect this server will be like?: Quite honestly, I have no clue. I have been deliberately avoiding information as I want it to be a surprise. I only know that it heavily involves roleplaying, and has an incredibly developed lore.

What other server(s) have you played on and why did you leave them?: thekingdomsmc.com, which is currently down and my not return, and thenationsmc.com, a place formed by the remnants of that community - within which I currently moderate the teamspeak and forums. I have not left the latter server, I just wish to be able to seriously roleplay again – the atmosphere on the nations is too casual for that.

Have you read, understood, and agreed to the rules?: Yes, though I would like to know what a character would do if they died within the first ten minutes of joining, just a little nugget that I found amusing to think through.

Do you promise to abide by said rules, and laws? This includes the Server, Forum, and Teamspeak set Rules: I promise to abide to all rules and laws regard The Lord of the Craft and it’s general community.

How did you hear about us?: I heard about you through a portion of the members who left my previous server in its dying days.

Have you previously made an Application? If so could you link us to your last Application?: Nope, first application.

Have you posted this application on our minecraft forum thread yet? If not, just finish it up on here and then copy + paste is over there. (http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/832121-%E2%96%91%E2%96%92%E2%96%93-the-lord-of-the-craft-%E2%96%93%E2%96%92%E2%96%91-enter-the-world-of-asulon-o-f-f-i-c-i-a-l-l-y-t-h-e-n-o-1-r-p-s-e-r-v-e-r/): No, though I have heard from multiple players that that is no longer looked at.

In-Character:

Character Name: Gordhan Ax-Trumm

What Race are you?: Dwarf

What Sub-Race are you? (note, you aren’t required to have a sub-race):None

Biography (Please make this at least 2 paragraphs long. This must include the history of your character and his life as well as age, appearance and personality, etc.): Gordhan Ax-Trumm, a dwarf whose name was bestowed upon him by a kindly father, given to him based upon his early choice of toy: a simple Ax; he was born far to the North of Kal’Urguan, past even the borders of the Orc nation, in a small village that does not appear on any maps. He was born to a normal dwarf family, his father a miner, his mother a housewife. Neither brothers nor any sisters inhabited this household, he was an only child, as is usually the case in such events, he garnered all the attention of both his mother and father. Anytime they were not tending to menial tasks, they were teaching him; they bought maps, books, fine food and wine, lavished him with the education of a noble, and taught him in a way that would - they thought – ensure that his ambitions would outgrow this pokey little village they lived in. They were successful, of course, for otherwise he would still be living in that little town, not attempting a journey to the Dwarven nation, to seek the fortune his parents promised he would find there. This training, of course, came at a heavy price. Stress turned his hair white grey before the age of 17, his eyes, weakened from thousands of hours sifting through piles of books, a milky blue. Most of the time, he values a swift, sharp tongue and wits above a large Ax, though he is impartial in what route should be taken in most situations – usually opting for the one that ends with him getting the most ale, and gold.

Following his long, arduous, education, only broken for a few months as they flee to Asulon from Aegis, Gordhan wished to travel south, to the nation of the Dwarves, to obtain the fortune he had been taught to lust for, however, though his body remained almost as swift and sturdy as his overdeveloping mind, although, his mind was always slightly ahead of his body. This made his movements, to him, feel sluggish - sometimes even clumsy – something that made him avoid mining and lumbering. His skill with an Ax was the only thing left mostly untouched, though he now swung it like a crazed drunkard. This made gaining passage hard and walking even harder - being unable to do menial tasks efficiently greatly inhibiting him.

Even with these physical ailments, he managed to gain passage, mostly on foot, into the south, passing over the border of the Orc nation. His journey did not go unnoticed, however, and he was waylaid by an Orcish Warband, and was swiftly knocked out, being stripped of his meagre belongings, of course, the Cloud Temple monks endeavoured to recover and heal him, but the damage to his confidence - and racial impartiality – was already done. Since that day, he has, personally, harboured a burning distrust of Orcs, and an aversion to travelling in their lands.

What is your Character's ambitions?: Gordhan wishes to find the wealth and security that his parents promised that he would find in the south.

What is your character’s favorite tool? (sword, pickaxe, shovel, etc): A nice, sharp, Ax - though he isn’t too fussed about using a pickaxe in a pinch, or his tongue.

What is one of your Character's most skilled talents? His skill with words; while not saying much, what he does say usually strikes like lightning.

A screenshot of your skin (must be in proper format): SRsvs.png

Other Information about your Character: Gordhan enters this land at the age of 41, having spent his first 30 years in education, and another 11 on a long, slow journey that led him close to his destination – but not quite there as of yet.

Open-Response-Questions

Whilst traveling from the Cloud Temple you see a small halfling, being harassed by two armed warriors. They appear to be trying to steal money from him, how does your character respond?

Gordhan looks at the wretched creature, trying to hide its small frame beneath yet smaller arms. A rage builds inside him, reminded of the Orcs he encountered on his journey to these southern lands.

“Excuse me, but what precisely do you think you’re doing?”

Gordhan’s voice cuts across the bandit’s threats, seeming very out of place in this brutal environment, his formal tone – rare in a dwarf – is a stunning contrast from his crouched, hostile stature.

“Now”, he calmly states, drawing his Ax, “You’re going to leave that poor thing alone, or you’ll have me to deal with”.

Your character wanders into Alras, and comes across a small stall, behind which a well dressed man is standing. He’s offering various wares, the merchant turns to you and says in a posh accent " 'ello there, what can I do you for today?" What is your character response?

Gordhan asks about the types of ale that they have in stock. Upon finding out what brews that the shopkeeper currently has, he buys a bottle for himself, and one for the shopkeeper. As they drink, Gordhan smiles, hoping that this will form a useful bond vetween them which he can use to lever himself higher in the social ladder. As he leaves, he picks out a new Ax, and pays the shopkeeper a generous sum for this new toy.

Whilst wandering in the wilds, your character comes across a small hut, which looks abandoned. Inside it you see a chest containing a few iron bars, and a golden sword. How would your character respond?:

Gordhan glances inside, looking around himself at all times; his hands shaking, he pulls the ingots from the chests, and leaves that place as quickly as he can. When he reaches somewhere safer, he composes himself and justifies his panicked actions – after all, what else could have come of this iron but it be lost to a bandit?

Hungry and lost in the wilderness, you stumble across a small trading camp nestled among the forest, they greet you you in the common tongue, how do you respond?

Gordhan greets them, and then asks whether they would be willing to let an exhausted Dwarf spend the night in their camp; regardless of their answer, he follows them to purchase, or be given, some supplies. Following this, he finds a tree stump in or near their camp, and curls up in the roots.

You hear word that bandits occupy the road outside the town in which you have been staying. The town guard have gathered, and are asking for assistance to help eliminate them. The leader of the party is offering a reward for any who offer their support. How does your character act on this information?:

Gordhan looks out the windows of the tavern in which he had been sampling some of the area’s finest ales; seeing the commotion, he pays any outstanding bills to the bartender, and rushes out. He passes the Guards, and ventures out onto the road, heading the opposite direction from the bandits. Hopefully no-one saw his cowardly escape, but those bandits weren’t worth the risk. The Guards would be fine – they could deal with a few simple forest dwellers, couldn’t they?

Welcome to Lord of the Craft!

I'm going to accept you because I think you would be a good addition to our community, it seems you studied the lore and I noticed you were analyzing other's applications. :) However, Powergaming is not the first implication you described--

Here is the analysis:

In your own Words, define what the act of Power-Gaming is: Power gaming, so far as I know, has two definite applications: One is where your character is made to be, in effect, a god (or very powerful). The other way that term can be applied is when one person’s character, or any roleplay decisions, forces actions upon another player’s character or general roleplay.

Your second implication is correct. I'd like you to know what power gaming is when you are roleplaying.

An example of powergaming: Player 1 Kills Player 2 - Player 1 initiated forceful actions upon Player 2.

I enjoyed reading your application, and I wish you luck in Lord of the Craft.
