I see this so often, or something to the effect. A high elf will walk around, and when questioned he eventually says something to the effect of " My Great Great Grandfather was a Dark Elf ." Just as a notice to people who are new to the HE community read the lore. We hate halfbreeds. It makes me cringe every time because we are loosing Rp'ers.

I'd like to elaborate on this a bit, actually.

First, some ground rules on how well any High Elf can recognize races:

- We can ALWAYS recognize if you are an elf or not, regardless of armor. If you are 'disguised' as an elf, know that you are threading the borders of Isle de la Powergame.

- High Elves can tell High, Dark and Wood Elves apart if they are not wearing armor.

- 'Skilled' High Elves (that is, the ones who are trained in recognizing impures, such as guards and nobility) can occasionally tell a High Elf from a Dark/Wood Elf while they are wearing armor. They can NOT tell if they are Dark or Wood if their skin is covered. At least they will be suspicious enough to ask for you to reveal your face.

- We cannot discern a generic Elf (that is, one without a subrace) from a High Elf if and only if their character's skin does not betray attributes directly against the High Elf appearance lore.

Secondly, I fully expect people to 'lie' about their pure-bloodedness. Know that pretention is all about selling your act. Think Harry Potter, guys! Most of those genocidal Death Eaters were halfbloods wishing they were pure. Make up bloodlines, invent family members, find a way to marry or be adopted into an existing bloodline, I don't care. Just read the lore and sell your act.

Being a fourth or less of Dark or Wood Elf can be hidden through fine acting.

A problem, though, one that will be decreasing now that Malinor is gaining in RPers again, is people who roll as an Elf, but swiftly /subrace to High Elf when faced with the guard of the Silver City for the first time. I can understand wanting to get into places that have RP going on, but now that Normandor is blooming there is no excuse. Flippantly selecting your subrace is powergaming and I feel that you won't be able to be the High Elf that you claim to be, as there is unique lore tied to our kin that should not be accepted lightly. Please, don't do it. If I catch you /subracing to High Elf when your app says otherwise there will be consuquences.

And of course, if you DID select High Elf as your subrace during the generation, please please PLEASE act like one. You don't have to live in Haelun'or (though it is preferred), but High Elves are not so by accident: They have had a strict upbringing that requires you, the player, to follow the lore set out for you. Please respect this, as it harms our lore in Haelun'or if you don't. If you do not feel up to it, please /subrace to another breed of Elf and play it however you like. Much better, though, is to give us a visit and we will set you straight :)

Just going to put this out there - just because your hair covers you ears does not mean we can not tell a high elf from a half-elf, and emoting to show them as the same length as normal elf ears is powergaming.))

Sporadic. I cant seem to understand this point. Is this referring to pre Asulon or during Asulon?

You mean would I selfishly request that people who have cherished and refined a High Elf character for months drastically change them because me and my team have created new lore for the race? I would if I could. I know, however, I can't ask this of people. It isn't fair.

It leaves us in a tricky situation, though. Because I will request that players who want to start a High Elf stick to the lore. This lore will almost require them to live in Haelun'or, as proper behavior will leave you with very little friends in the mainland. Now, Haelun'or was getting a bit overcrowded so I was looking to prune the citizens here and there a bit as it was stressing me out too much (and also, some of the team requested more discipline in the city.) However, due to this and a combination of other reasons I am fearing a serious lore breach.

Old school High Elves are, 99% of the time, fueled with 'western' ideals of acceptance like the player is, which means they'd love nothing more than to find a fellow New High Elves and tempt them to liberalism before they learn about us. In RP, this is understandable, but to a keeper of lore this is a big thorn in my side; it magnifies an issue that we have been unable to patch.

Malinor RPly wants the same, of course: The boat from CT to the Elf Island stands right next to Normandor and leaves out the mention of any kind of High Elven city to new players. Again, this makes complete sense IC.

Now, on one side this is a good thing, as we don't really WANT people who pick races before they read lore: Haelun'or tries to cultivate quality beyond the average. Should, however, at any point large concentrations of Mali'aheral start existing in Normandor, lore is broken and nigh beyond repair. Which is why I ask people to /subrace to something else if they aren't up to the challenge of being High Elf.

With regards to the /subrace, I've been trying to use this command for a while now to set my race as High Elf, and all that I am returned with is error messages saying that it is an unknown command. Has it been removed or is it just that I need to know the correct format to it.

Also I really do agree with the points you're making about the roleplay being broken.
