From The Desk Of The Royal Scribe

Usually... these types of notices would be routine. Josef used to create them often, to give the people of Renatus a good idea of what was going on in the kingdom. He didn't know if it was the most efficient way of spreading information, or even how large the audience was, but he enjoyed it. Old age had made the creation of these notices less and less frequent. But this time... this time he felt it was necessary.

It had taken him a long time to write it. His office had been chilly that night, with the rain splashing outside and rolling down the windows. Rain always made his leg seize up, make movement much more difficult. Lately his hands too had become affected, and even the simple act of writing was a challenge. The pains in his hands were one reason why he had taken so long. The other was that the subject made him stop, every so often and sit back to reflect. So much had happened, so much change had occurred. Everything was different now.

Finally, though, the old scribe finished the notice. The rain had ended, and the city felt clean even in the darkness. Stepping outside his office, he thought that the slums looked altered. Sure, the rain had likely washed away some of the grime and dust that accumulated there, but this was different. As he hobbled down the road, cane in one hand and large scroll in the other, he was aware of a difference in the air. Nothing was as it once was. The threat of the Undead had changed to that of the other nations. His simple life in the basement of the VonSchlichten Inn had turned into a notable post. And all those around him grew old, or sick, or died.

He left the slums, over the bridge, past the Cathedral. The church was quiet tonight. Following the road, he made his way to the middle of the city. Even here, the streets were still empty. Lights were dimmed, sounds were muffled and the few people on the streets were impossible to make out, their features shrouded. His cane tapped on the stone of the streets, the loudest and most consistent noise in the night. Finally, he reached the main board of the city. Struggling only slightly, he managed to attach the scroll to the board. He gave it one last read, then turned and headed back to his house.

Attention Citizens of Renatus!

Here are a few announcements from the Royal Scribe of the Kingdom of Renatus.

First, reconstruction of the city is well underway. Anyone who is interested in obtaining a job in either the demolition or reconstruction of the city should contact Throdo Therving in Arethor. The Kingdom of Renatus will be looking for skilled engineers, architects, city planners, craftsmen, artisans, tradespeople and many others. Contracts are being offered to ensure both guarantee of work and payment. We hope that a new and more glorious city than ever before shall emerge from this reconstruction.

Second, the number of monsters seems to only be increasing in the city. Citizens of Arethor are urged to be wary, especially at night or when alone. This problem will at least in part be remedied when the reconstruction is complete, as currently many of the lights have been removed.

Glorious news to all in the Kingdom! King Godfrey of House Horen and Lady Atriana of House Tarus have announced that they will be wed. A date has not yet been selected for this event that all nobles in the Kingdom of Renatus are invited to. May the bond between the two remain strong throughout their lives and provide them guidance.

Finally, the death of Alice Timothee is regrettably announced. Alice was very involved in the Kingdom ever since the move to Asulon. She assisted the Royal Scribe in many important duties to the Kingdom, including the copying of documents and notices. She was also active in the church, carrying out restorative duties and tending the farms. She is survived by her adopted son Kernith and brother Josef, and predeceased by her parents, sisters and several dear friends. She steadily grew more ill as the years went on, which she attributed to Nether taint contracted while fighting in the Battle of New Terriko. She will be missed.

Any questions or concerns can be directed to Royal Scribe Josef Timothee.

Signed, Royal Scribe of Renatus Josef Timothee

The bottom of the parchment is dominated by a large and ornate seal of red wax.
