In-Character:

Character Name: Galadorn

What Race are you?: Human

What Sub-Race are you? (note, you aren’t required to have a sub-race): Northerner.

Biography (Please make this at least 2 paragraphs long. This must include the history of your character and his life as well as age, appearance and personality, etc.): Galadorn had a perfectly happy childhood on his families farm. They mostly reared cattle and kept a couple of coops of chickens. Galadorn played with his younger brother Barathorn for many hours on the open pastures around the farmstead.

However as he came into his teenage years Galadorn grew weary of the slow paced life of a farmer; he longed for a life of danger, riches and adventure.

Galadorn seized his chance to obtain this life whilst at the town market, buying feed for the chickens. As he was leaving the market a band of tall, filthy, burly men strode into the square. They were led by a terrifying man who was built like a barn and had a rough and greasy beard. The man in question was Arnold 'Grub' Hagildrub, the notorious leader of a bandit clan local to the area. Galadorn approached Grub. After standing a few seconds in terror the horrible mass that was Grub said "Have you got summit te say or you just gonna stand there all day?" Galadorn swallowed his fear and said "I wish to join your clan." Grub and his troop began howling but Galadorn stood his ground undetered. Grub stopped laughing and growled "So you think ye got what it takes to be one of us kid?" Galadorn nodded sheepishly. "Well then why don't you do me a favour and get my money from that no good lout over there." Grub lifted a fat finger and pointed it towards a halfling that ran the local book store, "He never payed me back after I 'acquired' some rare books for 'im." Galadorn looked at the little fellow cheerfully stacking new editions onto his shelves and felt great remorse, for he knew what he had to do and intended to do it. After having several books torn from the shelves and launched at him the halfling finally paid up. Galadorn returned to Grub and handed him the fat wallet of Minas, "Here." Grub weighed the wallet in his hand for a moment then laughed "That was fine work, don't think I seen a halfling cry like that before! Welcome to the clan."

Years passed on and Galadorn had looted, pillaged, raped and murdered his way to being Grub's right hand. Noone within the clan was more trusted, respected or feared than he. Under his watch many small towns and villages had fallen. It seemed that the clan's wealth and power would continue to grow. Unfortunately for Galadorn this was not true. On a misty, grey dawn Galadorn and his raiding party prepared to sack a small village out on an open plain. As they crept toeards the town bells rang and a battlecry went out "There's the vermin! Kill them all!" There was a loud roar and clatter as the Emerald Knights charged out of the mist and into the ranks of Galadorn's rabble. The raiding party was greatly outnumbered and out classed. Within twenty minutes Galadorn had lost a quarter of his men, it was then that he sounded the retreat. Most of the clan were locked in battle too deep to escape; those that could fled for many miles until they found a cave. Galadorn believed himself to have escaped but an Emerald Knight's spy had tracked them to the cave and after three days the knight's had surrounded the cave. Rather than risk losing men the Emerald Knights besieged the cave. After a month six men had died of hunger and two from grish (caught by eating those that died of hunger). Galadorn too had contracted the illness and lay weakened and motionless upon the floor of the cave. Those that were not afflicted or dead were incredibly weak and made not effort of defending themselves when the knights moved in to finish them. They assumed Galadorn dead and left the cave.

A further week passed in which Galadorn lay blind and numb upon the ground. On the ninth day after the knight's departure a band of gypsies discovered the cave and entered it, intending to make camp. The smell of the corpses made many vomit. The travellers piled the corpses high, stripping them of their weapons. Galadorn was last to be moved but as a young man bent to lift him Galadorn let out a raspy breath, the gypsy jumped backwards and yelled "This one's still alive!" Two other men entered the cave and between them they lifted Galadorn out of the cave and took him to their healer. The last thing Galadorn could smell was the burning of his fellows as the pile was ignited. For a time immeasurable to him Galadorn lived on the edge of consciousness until one evening in late spring he awoke. His head was sore and he couldn't feel his left ring finger or pinky. As he stirred a young gypsy woman with long, dark wavy hair rushed to his side. "Don't try to sit up, you've been more or less dead for nearly two months." Gladorn felt a hand touch the side of his head "Here let me remove this bandage, when we found you it was clear you had suffered from a severe case of grish so I warn you, you may be completely blind." As the bandage came away Galadorn saw hazy figures and blurred colour; the image eventually focused but seemed incomplete. "Let me see how much of your vision you have retained" said the healer. She held her index finger before Galadorn's left eye, "You see that?"

"Yes." replied Galadorn.

She repeated the process brfoe his right eye, "and this?"

"No." replied Galadorn, this time his voice was hollow and afraid.

"Then I'm afraid you've lost all vision in your right eye. I'm sorry." the healer told him solemnly. "Afraid I have some more bad news, we had to remove the last two fingers on your left hand."

"That explainfs the numbness." replied Galadorn.

The gypsy healer then went on to tell Galadorn all that had happened while he had been unconscious (including news that the Emerald Knight's had executed Grub) before inviting him to stay with them until he was able to at least walk again. Galadorn reluctantly accepted.

For five years Galadorn stayed with the gyspsies, learning their culture and how they survived out in the wilds as well as a few trading tips. In return he taught them how to properly wield a blade and care for cattle. When the day came that Galadorn decided to leave the company of the gypsies he set out a man with no purpose; his father would be long passed and his brother bitter. Grub was now dead and the clan dissolved. He was truly alone, so he wondered. He wondered the land searching for purpose and still does.

Galadorn is now in his thirties but wilderness living has kept him fit and nimble. He makes his money by doing odd jobs in the towns he passes through and sometimes works just for shelter or food. He wears a black patch over his right eye from which the sapphire blue of his iris has faded into a cloudy white along with his pupil. He still wears the mail shirt, brown leather hauberk and boots with green leggings he donned whilst with Grub's clan but has added the green/grey cloak gifted to him by the gypsies. His brown hair has started to show flecks of silver and a short, scruffy beard grows along his jaw.

Open-Response-Questions

Whilst traveling from the Cloud Temple you see a small halfling, being harassed by two armed warriors. They appear to be trying to steal money from him, how does your character respond? He sees himself in the two assailants and is reminded of the halfling he extorted as a teenager. This fills him with shame and he is driven forward by an urge to repent. He approaches the warriors, hand on the hilt of his sword and tells them "Perhaps you should leave this fellow alone and find a decent living." Assuming they don't leave he kicks the closest warrior in between the legs before disarming the second and using the flat side of the blade to knock both men unconscious. He then turns to the halfling, returns his money and says "I'm sorry." before taking his leave.

Your character wanders into Alras, and comes across a small stall, behind which a well dressed man is standing. He’s offering various wares, the merchant turns to you and says in a posh accent " 'ello there, what can I do you for today?" What is your character response? "Do you know of any jobs available in this town? You see I am low on coin and require a place to stay." I then follow the advice of the merchant.

Whilst wandering in the wilds, your character comes across a small hut, which looks abandoned. Inside it you see a chest containing a few iron bars, and a golden sword. How would your character respond?: He walks up to the front door to see if it is unlocked. The door swings open and Galadorn steps inside. He proceeds to rummage through the chest for food before taking the iron bars and concealing the golden sword below his cloak in hope that he can sell them later.

Hungry and lost in the wilderness, you stumble across a small trading camp nestled among the forest, they greet you you in the common tongue, how do you respond? "Hail travellers. Where do you make for?" they tell me they are heading to resupply at a nearby town. I ask if I can travel with them that far as I have become lost upon my wanderings.

You hear word that bandits occupy the road outside the town in which you have been staying. The town guard have gathered, and are asking for assistance to help eliminate them. The leader of the party is offering a reward for any who offer their support. How does your character act on this information?: He slips away and tries to avoid attracting attention for fear that if he goes with the party one of the bandits will recognise him from his past.

For a moment there I truly wanted to accept you, your bio is lovely, and most everything is great, though some things saddened me. On the first open response question, you powergamed rather severely. You have to remember, you will be role playin with other, real, players, and being able to take down two other players that easy, is usually seen as powergaming. Fix this up, add some more depths to your other open responses and apply again in say... 4 hours. I wish you great luck next time!
