Lore

When the sun first shone upon the unexplored lands of Asulon, forgotten knowledge of its past laid buried under its ruins, untouched for hundreds of years. These ancient technologies and forgotten beliefs gave birth to endless possibilities, waiting to be discovered. One such site lay in the far reaches of the Eastern Ocean, on an island now known as ArmaLuna.

Uncovered in the crypts of ArmaLuna was a wealth of knowledge of its past inhabitants; meticulously recorded in their fragile and encrypted tablets. These tablets told of a jolly island community who we now know were moon gazers and masters of song. After years of research and translation, the citizens of the present ArmaLuna erected an Academy in homage to the power of music in hopes of spreading cheer across the four corners of Asulon.

Asulon’s Academy of Bards and Minstrels is now officially open, accepting students from all walks of life. The Academy features a grand library that has an ever growing collection of books and will aim to provide the most complete selection of lore and history from both Aegis and Asulon. We welcome all who seek wisdom and peace!

Introduction

Asulon’s Academy of Bards and Minstrels is now accepting all students skilled with words and tongues. If you are a passive observer with a talent in speech, then we welcome you to our growing peaceful community! The grande Academy promises to nurture your talent with the guidance of our experienced instructors in a number of classes and challenging assignments! Whether you wish to be a wandering Minstrel who seeks for adventure to turn to song or a peaceful Bard singing songs of forgotten lore in a tavern, you shall not regret the path of becoming a musician of Asulon!

Laws of Harmony

1. I will never call another writer’s work as my own

2. I shall never plagiarize from any source of material.

3. I will never produce song that I do not enjoy hearing myself.

4. I will never sell another person’s work without their permission.

5. I will never copy an exam paper, nor share the answers.

6. I understand that if I should break one of these laws, I will be expelled.

Ranks

Our academy promises to be unbiased and uphold equality by giving each student assignments and exams at each stage to test their knowledge and ability. No one student will be allowed to advance without having completed the necessary work.

The ranks are as follows:

Grand Maestro - The headmaster of the academy, the Grand Maestro has demonstrated great lyrical talent having mastered skills in both classes of Minstrel and Bard. He oversees all activity in the academy. This title is currently held by Griffith du Mont

Duetic Bard-Minstrel - A graduate of the academy with an official license recognizing their abilities in both areas, they now have the experience to instruct new bright minds.

High Minstrel-Bard - A highly acclaimed Minstrel and Bard, they have demonstrated their skills time after time. They now have the ability to do every job the Academy recieves.

Minstrel - A street performer known for his quick wit and eccentric personality. Following every rumor, these active musicians live on spontaneity and must be inspired by experiences first hand to create their songs and jingles.

Bard - A formal singer known for their versatile vocals, they have trained themselves tirelessly in singing songs of lore in taverns and houses of royalty. They enjoy a stationary lifestyle where these passive musicians more than often gain inspiration over a mug of ale while conversing of others’ adventures and hidden away behind stacks of ancient memoirs.

Gleeman - A Bard/Minstrel in-training, they travel to the four corners of Asulon to train their singing on the field. This will gain them the much needed experience if they so choose to advance. Senior members may be offered jobs by the academy.

Scribe - A new member interested in studying the art of song. Their voices are still shaky, their rhymes not yet perfected but their optimism drive them onwards, courageously.

Assignments

When aiming to graduate to your next title, know that the academy must challenge your knowledge and courage. Exams have been planned, specifically detailed and constructed for each path you may choose. Assignments will involve your street smarts, and your book wits. Some will even involve courage and the ability to gain an audience through charm and wit. Whichever assignment you may be assigned, know that special care was put into it to test your worth!

Scribe Stages

Scribes is the title for all new students. They are only just beginning to train their voices and nurture their lyrical know-how. To graduate from a scribe, scribes must complete four assignments and a written exam. These assignments are to give a student their first experience of being a performer. The final exam is research based and may be completed by any means; purchasing a study guide, research in the library, speaking to villagers, or exploring hidden rooms in ArmaLuna.

Gleeman Stages

Gleemen are amateur stage performers yet lacking the experience and vocal training in singing and thus must rely on lower forms of entertainment such as story telling and juggling. They will have a two main assignments. Each one giving a slight taste of being either a Bard or Minstrel. This will help you decide which path you wish to continue pursuing. A practical exam will be given when you are ready.

Bard Stages

Bards are peaceful, solitary folk who seek solace in their scrolls or in a mug of ale. They strive to perfect their singing and begin their training with their instrument. This instrument will be crafted with the City Blacksmith, Sean Bradshaw and will require them to search the shores for the correct materials in order to craft one. This material is unique and protected in ArmaLuna, producing Asulon’s best instruments. Next they will be given three assignment and a practical, two person exam (consisting of one Bard and one Minstrel) will be conducted under the City. It will require absolute team work to solve all the riddles and puzzles that come their way.

Minstrel Stages

Minstrels will also begin their training with their instrument. This instrument will be crafted by the City Blacksmith, Sean Bradshaw and will require them to search the shores for the correct materials in order to craft one. This material is unique and protected in ArmaLuna, producing Asulon’s best instruments. They will be given three assignments where their quick wit and fast thinking are to be challenged. A practical, two person exam (consisting of one Bard and one Minstrels) will be conducted under the City. It will require absolute team work to solve all the riddles and puzzles that come their way.

High Minstrel or High Bard Stages

There are no assignments or exams for High Minstrels/Bards as this is the highest obtainable stage if one does not want to gain dual class. Taste sweet success and reflect on your growth from a wee scribe. Congratulations!

Duetic Bard-Minstrel Stages

A Duetic Bard-Minstrel has gained both the titles by finishing the assignments and exams for both Minstrel and Bard. They are eligible to become instructors which are only hand picked by the Grand Maestro.

Courses

Pronunciation - There will be no “Okays” and “Cool” or any such disgusting street filth leaving our student’s mouths. We offer pronunciation classes to help transition peasant speech into the flowery language of upper class society. We will ensure that you will no longer embarrass yourself in the presence of royalty. Scribes are required to attend one Pronunciation course before graduating to a Gleeman.

((Grammar class to eliminate as much colloquial speech, improper use of lower case and capitals and etc.))

Performance - Having been granted an official title by the academy, you will be sent on jobs of your choosing from our employment board in the administration office. The academy will prepare you by teaching you various jingles and songs as well as how to sing publicly without fear. Gleemen are required to attend one Performance course before graduating to a Bard or Minstrel.

((We will teach you the when and how to emoting lyrics without overcrowding the page))

Musical Instruments - The academy offers classes to those interested in picking up a musical instrument. We offer lessons in playing the following instruments: drum, flute, lute, harp, and tambourine. We will teach the proper techniques needed to ensure that you’re always prepared to perform on stage. Bards and Minstrels are required to attend one Music class before graduating to a High Minstrel/Bard.

((Emoting course that teaches students how to emote properly with an instrument to make it as realistic as possible. This will always help with your everyday emoting to increase your RP ability.))

Private Tutoring (on a request basis) - You may be granted a one on one class with an instructor or with a small group. This will cost extra but will allow you more time and attention from an instructor. Line exchange games are an example of what to expect out of this special training for students struggling with lyrics. And also ensemble lesson will also be offered for those who wish to sing with a partner.
