I think at some point we should probably discuss building a boat or a horse, for fast travel purposes. I am not certain how much it costs, but I know I could pitch in a fair sum.

Some of my ideas for the town:

- The main area looks a bit . . . well . . . messy. Instead (and this is going to be hated, I know :D) we could keep the walled area as a sort of gathering place with a longhouse. The houses could go on the outside with another wall surrounding them. It would also defend the farms. The benefit of that is so we have a sort of Oppidum (ish) area. This however will need a lot of work and time that people may not necessarily have.

- We need to "grass" the area. We could break a tiny bit of the wall and create a dirt bridge into the main area. After a while, some grass will form in the town itself. We can then destroy the bridge.

About Longhouse- i like the idea, there could be two parrallel to each other just like it was in BISKUPIN village (look in google), still I love the idea with granary and warehouse that bism created, but I agree village look too much messy.

There never was farms inside the walls! especially in such small settlements.

If we have more members we will make it bigger, for now its ok up to 10-15 members

for those that build mill&bakery near river... its too big and out of barbarian style, it should be more poor, simple etc, you should create mill wheel. and structure should be on the shore, not on that strange dock. more like this:

mlyn1.png

but of course smaller

The fields should be bigger and more irregular, I know it will be harder to protect, but this is farmer hard life

What do you think about this?

Well, I guess I'll deconstruct it, which will take a considerable amoun of time, as a warning, considering I only have wooden axes. Also, I have absolutely no idea to build something that looks more than remotely like that in minecraft. And one more thing, I understand that it is too large, but I thing the mill wheel would look ridiculous if I made it any smaller. If you have any ideas, share them, or go build it yourself.

(Do not read in angry tone, the go build yourself is supposed to just be a suggestion, because I have no idea how to build something remotely like that.

I like the idea of longhouse, and allowing grass inside the burgh is also great. As for the rest, calm down people. We arent big-enermous city with unlimited terrain for our buildings. We are not playing in free-to-build server. The area within the walls is enough for houses of 6 people. Heck, its even way too big. Lets focus on finishing buldings inside the walls and lets improve RP of our settlement. We will try to expand when our numbers will. And also, walls arent decoration, they are for protection. Best to stay inside the safe, undead-proof burgh, than to create countless structures that wont even be used.

We need to sort the mob problem, they seem to be swarming the settlement(inside and out) i propose more torches :D

Grogos have a point. I would love to build more variety of buildings, but we are still not big enough.

Longhouse would be really usefull. Yet I say its a thing of the viking-like village. Each and every poor nord looking village have one. Having long house would definitly make our village less original.

Well . . .

The Celtic cultural region was massive. Every area was unique in their own way - the Gaulish tribes allegedly had organised armies with ranks whilst the Britons fought as wild warriors. In Ireland the Gaels fought in ritualistic hand to hand combat. Similarly, each individual cultural group would have different methods to building. A Celtiberian style village would have been different to a, say, Gaelic 8th Century Meathian village.

What I guess I'm trying to say is what kind of Celtic culture are we emulating? I know quite a bit about pre-Christian Gaelic, Hiberno-Norse and Southern Gallic cultures.

If you want me to design structures in Creative mode before building it in the village, then I will (if it's rules-legal).

Even then, the Slavic cultural region is also massive. You've got the Vikingised Russian Slavs, the more barbaric Poles and the Greekified Bulgarians. The cultures of both a huge and massive.

So again, what blend of culture are you aiming for?

We are aiming for creation of mixed culture from all celts and slavians. The architecture we base mostly on the celts(cause of affection some of us have for Winerica from Asterix.). We wont do everything exactly the same as the historical records say, too many things are unclear even now to say that something is historicaly accurate. Still we will try with recreation of the things we can.

The main point in Bism reply is that we ARE small village. 6 people only apply for small farm with 25x25 terrain. We build much bigger burgh because I have diamond vip with which we can extend territory(cant get thruough to shiftnative with validation, but its a matter of time).

So bassicaly avoid building anything too big. Giant mill that can "give work" to 3 people when our numbers just grow to 6th person is overdoing things... Try with something smaller, if someone want to be a hunter, then build tiny hut in the forest and start RP, its roleplaying we are doing here, building stuff is only so that we have the place to do that.

As for what kind of structure you can add Raphael, yes, just build it in creator and post the screenshot, its called blueprint and everyone is doing this in their charters.

ps. Also, when collecting wood in the forest pretty far from the burgh I stumbled on the house (with good amount of collected resources and stuff), of someone named judic-something, I remember that there was someone with that name in our burgh. If Im right then does somebody know why did he left and started building something on his own?

I built it there before the burgh was anything but a sign that said: "Burgh is here." I didn't know what type of buildings I needed to build, as this was very early on, so I went a ways off and built a house to stay. I have my own personal things and farm there, and it is rather close to the burgh. I really don't see the problem.

So its yours, seeing it built outside the burgh I though that somebody left. Seeing all these resources I thought that the owner were staying there. If not why gather resources and leave them outside the settlement?

What problem are you speaking of? I was worried that we lost someone. If not, then good news this is.
