VILLAGE CHARTER

MC Name:

Sheunhaa

RP Name:

Koriakix

Village Name:

Vinr

LORE

Koriakix opened his eyes, and raised from his knees. All of his joints were on fire but he never felt so light in his life. He muttered the last words of his prayer and turned to his follower.

“These woods will be hard to clear,” Uamignatix said grimly to his chief. “Maybe we should look elsewhere?”

Koriakix put a weary smile on his face and gestured at the hardened trees around them.

“No, my friend. They will provide us a strong palisade and houses.” He studied the sky for the signs from gods.

For a moment he thought about his responsibilities and the seed of doubt begun to grow. But then he saw it, a red bird of gods far, far in the sky. It appeared only for a blink of an eye, and he knew.

“We are staying,” Chief said.

Why are you/your character starting this village? What is its purpose?

Vinr originates from the idea of Rarog Burgh http://www.lordofthecraft.net/forum/index.php?/topic/55016-rarog-burgh/ , a village strongly connected to the nature and worshipping of supernatural forces. The idea is not merely mine. It is a combined group effort of five individuals. An attempt to recreate the rich customs of Celtic and Slavic cultures.

After many adventurous journeys, our characters found themselves in need of a place they could call home. Community based on warrior-hunter principles, with rich culture and folk religion. That led to the birth of Celtavs (a mix  , ain’t we smart), and the decision of choosing my character to become a chief of the new society. The time has come to find a place suitable for forthwith settling. My character wanders alongside his friends through the north wilderness, in the search for the right woods. As a chief he is nothing but an embodiment of our fellowship strong desire to form a settlement.

[below lies the effort of all our members, and credit goes to them all too.]

What type of political system is enforced in this town?

Currently we have:

Chieftain- Elected by all grown men of the village. He has a final word in every dispute or decision, except trials.

Council of Warriors: the men of the village

-When a chieftain dies, they elect a new one.

-Trials: Only the "council" can decide sentences, this also includes banishing. The chieftain must submit to their verdicts, except if he is the subject of a trial. Then and only then, he can refuse to fulfill it.

2#.After the death of the previous chief, in most celtic and slavic cultures, the new one was elected by the elders of village.

And so: Our village in future (with the gods and peoples help) will have a slightly different system: :ugeek:

Council of Elders_____- holds responsible ->________Chief

*Judical Branch*______________________________*executive branch*

*Elects the Chief*_____________________________*+legislature*

The council of Elders- All of players must play an old fellows. Its authorities will be exactly the same as ‘Council of Warriors’. Elder in our village isn't like noble. He must be experienced and smart, judge fairly no matter the case, but aside the esteem there is nothing more to show them.

As for now we can’t have the “all geezers village”.

What sort of behavior will residents exhibit? (Race relations, nation relations, etc.)

Everything in culture.

Where would you prefer the town’s region be, and how large? Including a screenshot of the land would be nice (of game or map).

Any other details (architecture, races, culture, etc):

Race:

We prefer only humans. It would be too hard to explain the presence of elves and dwarfs.

But that doesn’t mean we dislike other races. They will still be welcomed in the village (if one stops by) but there will be that feeling of uneasiness among residents.

Culture:

People of Vinr are proud and courageous. Though they remain neutral to other factions, the great emphasis is placed on fighting abilities. The culture is oriented around warrior/hunter structure. Also there will be the possibility for an open trade with other countries and races. Still the people of Vinr will react with great suspicion to anyone who will approach their village. Once someone would enter the village and become a guest he will be treated with respect and hospitality as the tradition demands. (Grogos, Burgh_charter)

The professions are traditional, like: hunters, smiths, fishmongers, etc. Everybody will be equal, the only thing that will be different is their position in village (some will be more useful or held in higher esteem).

Whoever wants to read:

“In the lands of the far north, in the forests beyond the realms of elves and orcs. In the deepest parts of woods there is a clearing amidst which stand wooden burgh rising over the trees with tall towers made of log and earth. Behind the wooden wall shine in the brightness of the sun roofs made of straw. From their sides rise chimneys made from cobblestone and wind blows smoke that keep coming from them. Amidst the huts children’s play and watch their fathers return from hunting carrying meat of the boars they killed. Soon the women will cook and when the sun goes down a feast will be held in the center of burgh with ale, food and music. The old Druid will stand in the middle and prey to the mother nature for good harvest. At the end of the feast the chief will make a toast for brave hunters, their skilled wifes and the meat which is all gone.” (Grogos)

Gender relations:

We RP the status of women and men as equal, as it was in both cultures. Of course there is division of things that are feminine and manly. Like fighting was mainly for men and tailoring for women. Still it is possible for woman to gain fame and influence in a "men occupied” profession.

So basically in our village women are on equal standings with men.

The Attire (skins)

Mixture of Slavic clothes and Celtic – anybody who wants can have a small portion of blue tattoos like Celts.

*Religion:

There won’t be a stoic hierarchy of priests and other religious men. Only two religious roles will be held in the village: Druid (we will need a druid…) who will live in the hut near the circle of stones where once a year festival is carried. And the servant of Cichol (mysterious man in service of mysterious god)

A quick peek to our gods:

Myths:

"There was a day when Yarih stayed behind in the mortal world after his father left. He watched in awe as the daylight grew with Fir taking the domain left by Cichol. Along with her mother, appeared Tera raising from the west and flowing the lands and seas with her beam and heat. Yarih watched as the Goddess of the sun shined more and more brightly. And seeing her beauty, Yarih adoration to Tera grew stronger. But being lost in his feelings he didn’t see that the flames of the Sun overpowered his weak light. Before he realized light of the sun made him slowly vanish. It was then the Goddess of the sun spotted young God of the moon and tried to suppress her beams, unfortunately the stranger still fade away. She begged her mother for help, but Fir didn’t care for the son of her enemy and remained deaf to the pleas. In the last moment, before Yarih paid the ultimate price for his curiosity, Cichol appeared. Great was the anger of God of Death to his son stupidity. God of night summoned vast powers of his magic and banished the day before its time ended. Thus night opposed the day and covered the sun with the blackness. Cichol took his dying son to nurture him in the realms of Gods and vanished from mortal world. Great was fury of Fir but Goddess of Day weren’t strong enough to openly oppose Cichol , and the fury was the only thing left for her.

Yet the story didn’t end in that place- for young children of Gods fell in love with each other. And so from time to time Yarih and Tera met when their way collided and stayed as long as they could together. From their union the first human was born. His power was great and his strength mighty. He had children with spirits and lesser goddesses thus his line spread and grew in numbers. People lived during day when Fir cared for her grandchildren and rested during night when Cichol watched over them. In time humans grew to so big numbers that it put great burden on the world. When other gods were debating what to do, Cichol stepped in. He gave people gift of death. And so every time human reach certain age he withers and dies and thus balance is kept in the word."

Language:

The old Celtic and Slavic sounded like that:

Gaulish: "In-sinde se—: bnanom bricto n,—eainom anuana sanander na:—brictom uidlaias uidli[..] tigontias so"

Preslavian: „iskoni bě slovo i slovo bě i Boga u Bogъ bě slovo”

So we will stick with old fashioned English, with a lot of poems.

Example:

"Hear ye, hear ye, Celts and Slavs!

The gods deemed them worthy, ye shall too.

They spoke oaths untold,

Promised peace,

Pledged their friendship,

And no grudge to bear.

No shall abuse a truce,

Betray the trust,

Bring Sawains fury,

Nor Cichol silent wrath.

As to what may hap to their fates,

They care not.

Respect thine elders,

Thy fate in their laws!"

Architecture:

Architecture is based on Celts and Slavs homes. Meaning little stone and a lot of wood and dirt. Here are some samples:

Right, built 4 houses(included the tree house similiar to the one in Rarogh burgh)) Though i wasn't instructed on what type we were building or the size restrictions so hopefully they're ok :).

If noone has a problem with it, perhaps I could start building a mill and bakery someplace inside or nearby the palisade? I already have a farm nearby as well, could I build a path there?

Bakery is a good idea, check if there will be enough place within the palisade for it, with all the future houses.

I think path is no problem, still I don't know how to keep it the 'gaul' way

- just dirt-

Anybody got an idea?

Anybody..?

Dirt would be just fine if we could seperate it from any grass (so it would stay a dirt). I don't know what are the exact mechanics of that...

As far as I know most of our members are from europe.

That's right, everyone: Say when (more or less) you are in the village.

I am from gmt -6 or -5, depending on the time of year. However, I don't really sleep that much, so I could probably get on when others are.
