Out-Of-Character

Minecraft Account Name:

AbaddonV

How old are you?:

20

Time-Zone/Country of Residence:

Pacific Standard Time. United States.

Do you have a good grip on the English language/good grammar?:

Yes.

Small 2-3 Sentence Description of yourself:

I am a hard-working, diligent player who has an aptitude for creating monolithic structures and in-depth characters with a rich backstory to roleplay as. I love medieval roleplaying to the extent that I am a frequent observer of the Renaissance Fair that takes place in Bristols every year.

How much time could you be on the server weekly?:

I can be on the server about five (5) to six(6) hours a day at the very least, depending on my work schedule and school hours.

What do you know about Roleplaying? Give a definition of what it means to you:

Roleplaying is assuming control of a character to the extent of living through said character. However this isn’t to say that the character begins to reflect your innermost beliefs, but rather that you subdue your inner self, so that all that is left is the character. The point is to create a personal un-bias towards the situations your character may encounter.

What experience have you had in Roleplaying, if any?:

I have roleplayed several times in real life by playing as a demonic knight at renaissance fairs, similar to my character Abaddon. From these situations derives the character backstory that will support Abaddon as a character on Lord of the Craft. So it is needless to say that I have a fairly good amount of roleplaying under my belt.

In your own Words, define what the act of Meta-Gaming is:

Meta-gaming is the act of utilizing outside knowledge learned while out of character. An example of meta-gaming would be using knowledge you over heard in teamspeak, such as the location of a secret ambush, and then telling the targeted victim in-game that they will be ambushed.

In your own Words, define what the act of Power-Emoting is:

Power-emoting is forcing other characters to do actions unwillingly or without any other option. An example is forcing another character to die in a roleplaying situation simply emoting actions without giving the other person to react: *Abaddon rushes toward Sheol and stabs him through the chest, his body falling on the ground dead.* In this instance Abaddon would be power emoting an action for sheol, and not letting sheol choose what happens to himself. Adversely if during a PVP initiated fight, Sheol chooses to run into his locked door, and not open it, despite Abaddon emoting that he smashes through it, that too would be power-emoting or gaming, by using the unrealistic minecraft physics to his advantage.

In your own Words, define what Out of Character (OOC) is:

Out of character is when you are no longer acting as the character you choose to play, but as yourself. Teamspeak is an example of an Out of Character environment.

In your own Words, define what In Character (IC) is:

In character or IC is simply roleplaying. As long as you are acting as the character you created, then you are in-character. As I said previously, to roleplay is to act as your character alone, un-bias towards all OOC.

What do you expect this server will be like?:

From the reviews I have garnered, and hype from websites such as planet minecraft, I expect the server to be a fun RP loving environment with a variety of colorful people with rich backstories. It seems like a fun healthy environment I would be honored to be a part of.

What other server(s) have you played on and why did you leave them?:

I have never played on any other server. My only experience with RP is through Ren Fairs.

Have you read, understood, and agreed to the rules?:

Yes, I have familiarized myself with the rules of the server, thoroughly.

Do you promise to abide by said rules, and laws? This includes the Server, Forum, and Teamspeak set Rules:

Yes, I promise to uphold and maintain the rules put before me by the admins and moderators.

How did you hear about us?:

I met two people while attending the Bristols RenFair named mike and Andrew. I had heard about Lord of the craft from different sources like Planet Minecraft, or the Minecraft forums, but mike and Andrew convinced me. I do not know their Minecraft names, although.

Have you previously made an Application? If so could you link us to your last Application?:

No, this is my first application, and hopefully my last.

Biography (Please make this at least 2 paragraphs long. This must include the history of your character and his life as well as age, appearance and personality, etc.):

“Since the dawn of man, wrath, greed, sloth, pride, lust, envy, and gluttony have consumed the souls of the living. From this corruption, rose Destruction and Grave. Abaddon and Sheol. 342 years ago, two children wear born of an elven woman in a small home, cut off from society. However they were no ordinary babes, for they had inscribed upon their bodies ancient runes. The First child bore sanguine trails across his small being, all culminating in a what resembled a holy cross upon his back. The second child was emblazoned with scale like markings, white as the night moon, and glowed just as fiercely. The surprised mother stared in awe at the two Newborns. She knew they would become great powerful beings blessed with the power of the gods. She decided then what names shall be bestowed upon them; Abaddon and Sheol.

Growing up, the two never strayed far from each other, constantly relying on the other to aid them in each ones endeavors. While they stayed relatively close, they soon began finding interests in different places. Abaddon chose to train as a blacksmith, eventually utilizing his own hand crafted swords to advance his skill as a swordsman. Sheol on the other hand decided that magic and the dark arts would be the path of which he would follow. For years each boy practiced their art, honing their skills, yet slowly drifting farther apart. Eventually their differences evolved into a rivalry, splitting the two of them even further apart as each one strived to become the more powerful brother.

One day, while experimenting with a potion, Sheol thought of an idea: to create a more potent concoction to enhance an enchantment he was working on to rapidly age any living creature. After hours of cultivating the numerous ingredients needed to strengthen the enchantment, it was finally ready to begin, and pour all the materials into a large cauldron. Once the water started to boil, he grabbed a wooden spoon his mother used to cook with for herself, as the Sheol and Abaddon decided to eat their own food of wild herbs, and hunted meat. Sheol began to stir the concoction, chanting lowly to himself to imbue the potion with magic, whilst also imbuing the spoon with the same magic. When all was finished, Sheol had created an effective enchantment, to kill any being by slow aging death. While he slept, his mother came to his hut, to retrieve her spoon for her supper. She cooked her food, and ate it with the spoon, passing on the spell to her. When Sheol awoke, he noticed the spoon was missing, and rushed to his mother’s hut, there he found her, seemingly unchanged. He believes his enchanted liquid had been a failure, and decided that he needed to further his education to become better than his brother. He packed up his stuff, kissed his mother goodbye, and left, without saying a word to his brother. However Abaddon had noticed Sheol gathering ingredients while on his hunt. He followed him back to his hut and watched as sheol made the enchantment, and watched as Sheol tested it on numerous small animals. When Sheol left, Abaddon went to check on his mother, and asked her for the spoon. She gave it to him and he took it to a small pond where animals would drink. He dipped it in the water and watched as a deer took a drink, grew old then died. Astonished, Abaddon ran back to his mother’s home. When he opened the door, he noticed that her hair had turned grey, her face hand begun to wrinkle. For the next few weeks Abaddon took care of his dying mother, until one day she no longer responded to his morning wake up. He buried her beneath the shade of a giant oak tree, and vowed to find Sheol and make him pay for his incompetence. Abaddon returned to his home, and sat on the locked chest that sat in his mother’s room. As he sat, he noticed that the box shifted as he sat down. Startled, he attempted to lift it, and to his surprise, it opened. Inside the chest was a sword, and a book. When Abaddon picked up the book, a painted picture dropped from the cover. On it was His mother - and even more shockingly - his father, a tall, dark elf man with pure black eyes and black markings, creeping up from beneath his shirt collar. Abaddon took the photo, book, and sword. As he locked up and walked away from the hut, he opened the book. However there were no words written inside, save one sentence on the back cover that read “Grave and Destruction are never full; and the eyes of man are never satisfied.”

For years Abaddon roamed the country side, scouring the lands for Sheol. His search yielded no success. One day while in a coastal town, Abaddon walked into a tavern, and was greeted with an onslaught of unfriendly eyes. This was not new to Abaddon, being the only dark elf in a land of humans. He sat down and began to examine his map, 170 years’ worth of locations scouted in search of Sheol, and now it seemed that his journey had come to its end as this was the last town he had left to search. Disheartened, she slammed his fist against the table, his head hung low over the picture of his parents. As he sat there, sulking, a shadow crept up from behind. Keeping his head low as to not give away his knowledge of the stranger, Abaddon stayed still, listening to the footsteps. When the steps where a foot behind him, Abaddon twirled around, his chair dropping to the floor, and pinned the man to a wall. The man only lightly resisted Abaddon, or so it seemed due to his immense strength and height advantage over the man. “You show great strength and determination Dark one, I have been following your movements for months.” The man said. Abaddon hadn’t realized the fact that he had been being followed, his search for his brother blinding him from all others. Abaddon looked down at the man’s clothing, a black tabard with red bull head covered his chainmail bodysuit. He released his hold, and the two began to converse. They talked for hours about recruiting him for an order of knights, off fighting a holy crusade against a league of Warlocks and sorcerers. The fire once again ignited in Abaddon’s soul, he set off to join the knights.

He fought many battles for the knights, swiftly advancing in rank. He won medal after medal for his combat effectiveness. He killed with grace and efficiency, chopping down wizard after wizard, hoping the next one may be his brother. Years passed, and the wars continued. Commanders died, andothers took their place. But Abaddon continued to live. He fought for years, knowing that his brother would eventually join the Magical order. A hundred more years had passed, Abaddon was now 290 years old. On the eve of a great battle he walked out of his Generals tent, which had accompanied him for the last 50 years, and looked over his camp. Scanning the enemy encampment across the great plain, he noticed a dark man walking about the enemy command post, with scales of glowing white light shining forth. Abaddon had finally found Sheol.

When the battle commenced, Abaddon commanded his men to attack in different formations, in an attempt to split apart their forces and leave a lane for him to assault Sheol directly. The fighting was fierce, but the men successfully created the split, and Abaddon rushed in, his father’s sword in hand. The men around the command hub dispersed at the sight of the man, everyman, save Sheol. The brothers clashed in a red and white flurry. “you cannot defeat me, brother, for I carry our fathers magic staff, you have no chance!” Sheol Yelled. In his deep, dual tone voice, Abaddon screamed back “Your stick cannot stop his blade, his true weapon! I shall kill you for the death of our mother, and I will prove who Is more powerful!” Sheol jumped back, seemingly flying as he leapt, and landed on the ground. “You have not won, nor will I lose to you, nor any man!” and in that instant, He vanished. Abaddon stood motionless amongst the carnage of war, the shouts of his men arose from the mass of warriors behind him. His army had finally won.

Abaddon knew his search was not over, and with the order of Magicians now eradicated completely, that he extend his manhunt even more. Before his men awoke, he left his commander a note telling of his retirement from command, and left on a ship. He did not say where the ship was headed, for only Abaddon was to know where he would go, and that was the mainland. The mainland of Asulon. . .”

Open-Response-Questions

Each and every question must be answered with a minimum of a single full paragraph and entirely in RP.

Whilst traveling from the Cloud Temple you see a small halfling, being harassed by two armed warriors. They appear to be trying to steal money from him, how does your character respond?

*walks up to the men, and places a large dark hand on each warriors neck. He lifts them off the ground and slowly tightens his grip. “What is going on here? Speak or I crush your throats.” One of the warriors gasps for air as the other hoarsely explains that they were robbing the Halfling. Abaddon releases his grip, and lets the two men drop to the ground. They gasp for breath as Abaddon watches the Halfling scurry off.*

Your character wanders into Alras, and comes across a small stall, behind which a well dressed man is standing. He’s offering various wares, the merchant turns to you and says in a posh accent " 'ello there, what can I do you for today?" What is your character response?

*pulls out a small picture with an accurate drawing of his brother on it. “have you seen this man?” he says in his dual tone voice. The merchant shakes his head. Abaddon puts the picture away, and asks for any diamond materials the man may have to repair his sword. The man places a few diamonds on the counter. Abaddon sweeps them into his bag, dropping a bag of money in there place, and walks away without saying a word.

Whilst wandering in the wilds, your character comes across a small hut, which looks abandoned. Inside it you see a chest containing a few iron bars, and a golden sword. How would your character respond?:

*Abaddon walks into the hut, and examines it, looking for traces of life. He notices the fireplace contains very few ashes, all long cold ensuring the hut is abandoned. He opens a chest that is unlocked in the room, he pulls out the iron ingots and drops them in his pack, for use when his sword requires repairing. He notices the gold sword, and carefully takes it out of the chest. He inspects the blade thoroughly, checking the condition. Satisfied, he pulls some leather and an iron bar from his pack, and makes a sheathe for the sword. By pounding the iron on the stone of the hearth, the sheathe is formed and he slips the sword inside, and slides it over his head. He walks out the room, muttering a small prayer to the gods for their hospitality this evening.*

Hungry and lost in the wilderness, you stumble across a small trading camp nestled among the forest, they greet you in the common tongue, how do you respond?

*Walks into the camp, his swords and pack already unslung, hanging from his hand. As he enters he places the bundle on the ground to show he means no harm to them, and asks if they have any food they are willing to trade. The traders bring out an assortment of foods, hoping the man will pay top dollar for exotic delicacies. Abaddon reaches out and takes a sheep kebob, from a tray. Delighted, he takes another, and repeats for 15 more times. When finished, he pulls out a few diamonds worth thousands in exchange for his meal. “thank you for your hospitality.” He croaks out, before standing and leaving the camp.*

You hear word that bandits occupy the road outside the town in which you have been staying. The town guard have gathered, and are asking for assistance to help eliminate them. The leader of the party is offering a reward for any who offer their support. How does your character act on this information?:

*walks out to the town gate and asks the guard if they require his help in the bandit problem. The guard nods, somewhat taken aback by the giant dark elf, and points down the road, his gaze remains unbroken, fixed on Abaddon, his jaw gone slack. Abaddon ignores the guard and walk to where he pointed. He comes upon the bandit camp and unsheathes his sword “I have come to kill you all for attacking the village. You shall now know Destruction.” He roars. The bandits scramble from their tents as Abaddon begins to cut down each man as they come near, their guttural screams of death meaning nothing to Abaddon. Once the job is complete, he utters a small prayer honoring the dead, as they have had the honor of being slew by him. Abaddon walks casually back to the guard, and hand his a handful of the bandits ears, to prove their bounty completed. The guard takes the ears in utter shock, and hands Abaddon a bag of money, frantically trying to bring their meeting to an end. Abaddon pockets the money and leaves.*

Anything else you would like to say?:

I hope that my application is deemed acceptable by the community, and that Abaddon may end his search for Sheol in Asulon. I would also hope that my Biography is not too long. Thank you.

Reasons:

  • You must be familiar with and abide by our lore, not create your own lore for your biography. You cannot be blessed with the power of the gods, you must be a normal person to begin with. Show us that you are at least a little familiar with the places and major events of our world. You can research the lore on our Wiki here. You must also be born in Asulon, as it is our entire world.
  • Your character is rather a "Gary Stu/Mary Sue" character. This generally means they have many skills and strong points, and very few balancing downsides. Click here for more information on what it means and how to fix this.
  • You cannot enter Asulon as a "master". You can enter with proficiency in certain skills, but mastery must be obtained in role-play.
  • Your skin needs to look like a normal dark elf.
  • Powergaming in your Open Response Questions. Defeating and entire camp of bandits and casually lifting two men are feats beyond the grasp of normal characters. You must enter as a realistic character, not an overpowered one.
  • Villainous character and villainous activity in the Open Response Questions. Actions such as murder require an accepted villain application to commit. Make sure you read over the villain rules (here) so that you are aware of what you can and cannot do without applying for a villain application.

While I can see you've put a lot of effort into this application, sadly you need to join as a normal character. That is not to say they can't be unique, but they cannot be demons. A tad of normality is nice. You need to base your story in Asulon and including events and lore from our server history.

If I were you, I would probably completely re-write the in-character section to fit into our server.

If you have any queries relating to this application, please do not hesitate to PM me on the forums!

You may reapply in 24 hours from the time of this post.

Why not browse the forums or read up on some helpful guides while you wait?
