Within the Salvus Shields there are three ranks: Initiate, Footman and Constable. Within the Footman rank three soldier specifications lie: Sword and Shield, Bowman and Ironshield.

-Initiate-

The basic trainee. The Initiate has not yet been fully trained in the Salvian military formations, the three basic weapons or the unarmed combat style that the Salvus Shields use. The Initiate is armed with a Salvian Kite Shield, the Salva and wears basic iron armor. The time that a Salvus Shield is an initiate, he or she will be trained in the unarmed combat, the Salvian Kite Shield, the crossbow, the Salva and the Salvian military formations.

-Footman-

The trained Salvus Shield. The Footman has shown discipline in the Shields with the ability to follow orders and line in formation. The Footman is trained in Salvian military formations, the crossbow, the Salvian Kite Shield, unarmed combat, the Salva and wears basic iron armor as well as being armed with these weapons and armor. If the Shield wishes to, he or she can pursue a War Time specification through vigorous and extensive training. War Time specifications include Sword and Shield, Bowman, and Ironshield.

-Sword and Shield-

The Sword and Shield is the advanced form of a footman that only appears in War Time guarding and combat. The Shield and Sword has pursued further training in the Salvian Kite Shield, the crossbow, unarmed combat and has been especially trained to wield a scimitar as well as fight off horseback. The Sword and Shield wields a Salvian Kite Shield, a scimitar, a crossbow and wears basic iron plate armor with an iron reinforcement on the sword arm. The Sword and Shield is the most common of the War Time soldiers.

-Bowman-

The Bowman is a War Time soldier specification and the only Shield of Salvus that does not carry a shield into battle. The Bowman is armed with recurve bow to defeat lightly armored targets, a crossbow to defeat heavily armored targets, a quiver for arrows, a side pouch for crossbow bolts, a Salva and wears heavy leather armor or light chainmail. The Bowman is extensively trained in the recurve bow and crossbow as well as furthering their training with the Salva and unarmed combat. The Bowman is a less common War Time soldier specification.

-Ironshield-

The Ironshield is a War Time soldier specification that only the most courages and strong hearted Shields are illegible for. The Ironshield is trained to use the Scutum shield, the spear and the operating in heavy armor. The Ironshield soldier is meant to serve as a buffer between opposing forces and other Shields or landmarks. The Ironshield is armed with a Scutum, a spear, and a Salva and wears a layer of chainmail, heavy steel plate armor and iron reinforcements on top of the plate armor. The Ironshield is the is the least common War Time soldier specification.

-Constable-

The Constable is a commanding officer in the Shields. The Constable is permitted to carry whatever arms and armor into battle he or she prefers. There are three Constables, Recruitment, Defense and Training. The Constable of Recruitment is designated to recruit citizens into the Shields of Salvus. The Constable of Defense is designated to write War Plans for attacking enemy cities and defending Salvus as well as improving the defense of the city.
