Thump.

Thump.

The operating table has been prepared. A solid slab of iron, bolted to the ground. Leather bindings that can be clipped like belts to keep the patient from struggling too much during surgery.

A little side table is just out of arm's reach from the operating table. On it is a set of clean, shining surgical equipment, and a pair of black gloves, neatly folded.

A man is strapped to the table. His wrists, forearms, ankles, thighs, midsection, and forehead are all bound down with the leather straps. He scans the room with his eyes, taking in every detail. The room is square, and made of stone from floor to ceiling. A few torches line the walls, giving off dim light. On the walls are shelves lined with dusty jars, all labelled. In the darkness, the man can just barely make out the shape of organs, floating in liquid inside the jars. His heart rate increases.

Thumpthump.

Thumpthump.

The iron door creaks open, sliding upon the stone floor, scraping. A robed, hooded man walks out, hands clasped behind his back, head bowed. He approaches the man upon the table. His heart rate increases.

Thumpthumpthump.

The man in the robes approaches the table. He gently takes a glove, and pulls it on one hand. He then takes the other glove, and raises his hand in the air, pulling the glove on tightly, wiggling his fingers, and letting it go with a loud *SNAP*. The man's heart rate increases.

The man in the robes takes a scalpel from the table, and tilts his head, looking down at his patient. The man on the table tries to scream, but the gag only lets a muffled cry escape. A waste of energy, since nobody can hear him down here. A final calculation, and then the scalpel is plunged into the man's throat. Blood sprays, flowing freely...

The man's heart stops beating.
