A Rushed Notice

A paper is pinned to the Lenfarthing Noticeboard, scratched with quick handwriting and a thin, spidery signature at its base. If you were to read it, you would see that it says,

"I will be back at a later day, hopefully soon! There's many things I would wish to say, but I haven't the time to do it. Roxanne is somewhere out there, and I will not leave her by herself with all of these monsters about... Please take care of Rodney and Camellia while I am gone, and nobody storm our new burrow!

Bungo Hollowmead reads the notice frantically, very worried about his cousin running out like this. He decides to write him at a later date to check on his progress and to make sure he is safe.

Rupert runs by the board, reading the new note. He smiles, taking out a firespark. He rips the note from the board, ties it to the firespark and lights it.

 

"ONE! TER! THREE!"

 

Rupert tosses the firespark up and watches it light the night sky in pretty greens and whites.

 

"Don' worry yerself Bili! I'll protect yer 'ome!"

 

Rupert takes out his heavy iron shovel and runs to Bili's burrow, standing guard in front of the door.

Leena seems excessively worried, wringing her hands. Mister Bili, alone out there with all those fiendish creatures...?

She shakes her head. "Nothin' for it, nothin' for it, Leena," she murmurs to herself. "'E'll be okay..." She wanders off towards home, deciding to bring the kids one of her special pumpkin tarts later.
