Definitions

In your own words define the following terms. Do not take any definitions from elsewhere!:

Role-playing: similar to enacting a theatre play with all the movements, dialogues and expressions, though mostly in written/spoken form. It means representing a character according to its personality, background and characteristics in an environment where the lore, the history of the world the character lives in, limits or enables what can happen and what can be done.

Meta-gaming: purporting to possess knowledge that your character, because of his/her background, would not know or possession of knowledge that goes beyond the limitations of the imagined world.

Power-emoting: abuse of 'emotion' system. Performing an action that prevents any reaction from the player one is engaging in RP with. For instance: Gudrin raises his axe above his head and chops Sauron's hand off, saving Middle Earth.

"*Slash*, *Slash*, *Slash* ... *Smash* *Smash* *Smash*

'That axe of yers looks more like a club now, eh?' - a grinning sturdy-looking dwarf with blood, sweat and dirt all over his face shouts my way.

These are the last moments I remember before everything went black. That is what I know of my past. One month later - so I have been told by the old mountain dwarf who took care of me - I find myself lying on a bed, with a throbbing headache and bandages wrapped around my head. The place is unfamiliar, for all I know it is a common dwarven hole in some mountain. By the looks this old dwarf is still a sturdy warrior, muscled, and presents various scars around his arms and face. He  tells me we are in Karik, in his own little hole. He is surprised I cannot recognise him and starts asking me what I remember from what happened. After my brief narrative, he tells me we are city guards in Karik and had been sent a month ago to reinforce the defences of the Grandaxe hold of Kal'Anart – a routine practice to make guards familiar with other strongholds. On the day after arrival, we were sent with a group of Grandaxe dwarves to investigate scout reports about orc movement close to the borders. The small orc camp seemed alert already when we reached them, as if expecting us – our scouts, however, ensured us that they had patrolled most of the area and no traces of an ambush had been spotted. It meant a direct confrontation, a brutal and simple fight – just what both races enjoyed. The charge command was given and we all sprinted against the foe. Godhir, the old dwarf, told me that I had become a formidable berserk then – restlessly heaving and downing my axe on any foe that would cross my path. Not even after my axe became blunt did I think of stopping – I would still use it as a club. “Were you the one then whom I remember shouting my way in the midst of battle?” “Aye” - he said, grinning, but suddenly turning serious - “That was when some five orc scouts suddenly appeared back in the camp, one of them hit the back of yer head and you fell on the ground. I though you were dead, I took revenge for that I killed the orc myself. But when we finally managed to make them rout, and not at great costs in lives on our side, I went to check your body and noticed you were still breathing. I took you back to Kal'Anart, and even when the physicians there said they could not help ye, I took ye back with me to Karik and have been waiting for ye to wake up all this time.” “I appreciate what ye have done for me, Godhir. I will one day honour this great debt to ye! But please tell me about my past, who am I?”. Godhir grins - “I'm yer father, Gudrin. Our family is no noble one though. We're guards, we have always been. Ever since our kind fled to Asulon to escape the Verge and decided to found Karik as the capital for the Dwarven nation. We are bound to protect our kind and this city at all costs”. I try to absorb the information and lie back on the bed, trying to make sense of all these events.

The next day, feeling I can already stand on my feet, I walk around the house. Most of it looks unfamiliar, but suddenly, when walking into a small, dusty dark room, I find what seems to be a chest of old things. The first object, right on the top is a wooden practice axe, with the name "Gudrin" carved on the handle. That was when the first memory came back - a young Gudrin practicing with his father. The next object in the chest, a handcrafted linen tunic for a female dwarf, brought back memories of someone who might have been my mother.

"I see ye found the family stuff ther'" - Godhir appears behind Gudrin - "That dress was yer mother's. Do ye remember what happened to her, lad?" - Gudrin says no - "Killed by orc scum she was. Yer mom was a warrior too, as I said all in our family are, she died during the Orcish invasion of Khaz'A'Zhar, an honourable death for a warrior". I am suddenly taken by a strong feeling of anger, now I understand my rage on day I lost consciousness, now I understand my hatred for Orcs.

There is not much else I remember, but I know who I am and what matters from my past. My name is Gudrin. Bluntaxe was what the other warriors started calling me on the day everything went black. I am a warrior, that is all I know."

Ambitions  for  the  Future: primary:  become a prominent dwarf warrior, rise in the ranks; secondary: find out more about my past, who I used to be.

Personality:  Skeptical, cannot easily trust others. Honor is a primary virtue, but only to the extent that it does not lead to foolish or pointless sacrifice. Determined.

Skills:  expertise with axes (be them sharp or blunt...), average (dwarven) skills in mining and forging. As a hobby, Gudrin also likes to grow mushrooms.

Appearance  (this  must include an  in-game screenshot of your skin):  http://imageshack.us...2/85531987.png/

Any  other details you wish to share about your character:  under his hair, on the back of his head, Gudrin has a big scar.

Open-Response-Questions

Each  question  in  this  section must be answered  with  a minimum of one paragraph which must describe the  event  in  full. Please  be  as  descriptive  as  possible  and  do  not  break  character  or  lore at any point.

____

1.  Whilst  mining deep  in  the undergrounds of  Kalos  you see a large deposit of diamond ore at the other side of the ravine you are on.  There  is  a very thin rock bridge that looks precariously unstable,  but it  is  the only way to access the deposit.  Whatdo  you  do?

Answer:
After wiping the sweat out of his forehead, Gudrin takes a few seconds to rest his arms and legs - it had been a long day of mining. He glances around the ravine where he had been mining. Suddenly, he spots what he thought was the largest deposit of diamond he had ever seen - and completely exposed to the naked eye - he could not believe his luck. However, it is situated on the other side of the ravine and the only path across is a thin rock bridge that looked as if it could collapse with any minor disturbance. He wonders about his chances: they are indeed slim, but all the mining he had done that day had rendered him nothing more than thin ore veins and bad quality coal - the usual output he had achieved in weeks of mining. How was he supposed to acquire the materials to forge his equipment and become a prominent dwarf warrior with the scarce and bad quality resources he had acquired so far? No, it had to be done.

Taking a deep breath, Gudrin ties his pickaxe to his waist to leave his hands free. He carefully examines the bridge, taking care to notice weak spots. Finally satisfied, he carefully takes the first steps, with arms distanced from his body to acquire balance. Half-way through, one of his steps causes part of the bridge to  collapse  under his foot - but while stepping back to avoid falling, he loses his balance and falls off the bridge. When falling, in sheer desperation, he grabs the first piece of rock he can hold and manages to climb back to the top of the bridge. However, the gap now is too wide to be crossed. But he does not give up on the diamonds. "I will find another way to them. Tomorrow, I will come here again and start digging a tunnel circumventing this ravine. No matter if it takes weeks or months. Whatever it takes, I will get these diamonds"

2.  You  are sitting  in  the  local  tavern  with  a large pint of ale  in  your hand  -  sitting nearby you  is  a rather young dwarf whomis  clearly going through a bad time.  He  is  crying to himself,  and  clutching a small wooden hammer toy.  In  the other corner of the room two shady dwarves are sitting whispering to each other  and  pointing occasionally at the dwarf.  They  stand up,  onewith  a small dagger  in  his hand  and  begin  to approach the young dwarf.  What  do  you  do?

Answer:  All that sobbing was already going up to his nerves. Gudrin could barely enjoy his pint of ale with all that crying. 'What on Asulon is this wee lad's problem?'. Becoming red with anger, he glances around the pub, looking for a quiet spot to sit. That is when he spots two shady dwarves looking to the young one next to him with aggressive expressions in their faces. All the anger suddenly comes off Gudrin as he starts to become alert. He sees the two dwarves stand from their places and head in their direction with partially concealed knifes in their hands. Gudrin quickly pretends to be in a overly drunk state, stands up and starts staggering towards the two. He stumbles upon one of them and, before they could react, disarms one of them and holds the knife against his neck. "Now, ye two lads will quietly leave this place, enough ale for ye today". The other, armed, dwarf replies "we have no quarrel with ye lad, let us go our way". But Gudrin stands still "Ye're gonna put away that knife and walk slowly t`wards the exit. Any silly move and I'll carve a red smile on yer mate's neck here". The other dwarf grins, puts away his knife and starts walking out while whistling. Once he is gone, Gudrin shoves the one he was holding towards the exit and waits until he leaves. Everyone at the pub is staring at Gudrin. "What? Have I got Orc filth on me face? Go back to yer ales! Now you there, young lad, we need to have a chat". Gudrin sits next to the young dwarf and starts listening to his story.

3.  Whilst  wandering through the  Dwarven  Caverns  you hear a voice call  out  to you;  “Oi,  ye’!  C’mere n’  get  ye’rself an ale!”.You  spin on your heel  and  see a heavily bearded bar-owner looking at you  -  a huge grin on his face,  and  a mug of ale  in  his hand.  How  do  you react?

Answer:  It had been a long day of mining and Gudrin was thirsty for some of the old ale. Suddenly, he hears a shout from his right:  “Oi,  ye’!  C’mere n’  get  ye’rself an ale!”.  He grins and turns towards the voice, a heavily bearded bar-owner wih a mug of ale in his hand. "Wait a second, is that ale free then?". "Aye, for a good lad like ye, yes" - replies the bar-owner.   Gudrin frowns "Right. I'll take it after ye have a sip". "Alright" - the bar-owner grins again and takes a sip - "There ye go, enjoy it, lad!". Gudrin's expression is suddenly relaxed while he puts his pint down on the nearest table and puts his bag of ores next to his chair. "Ah, well deserved" - he downs his pint of ale as one downs a mug of water. After a couple of minutes relaxing and sitting in his chair, Gudrin blacks out. At waking up, he finds himself lying in a gut somewhere in the Dwarven Caverns - his tools and bag of ores gone. "DARN IT, DAMN. How could I have been fooled like this? Do not trust anyone, damn it, no one!". And so he sets back to Karik: he would take back his belongings, but not now, not unarmed. He would come back another day, prepared."

This is quite a good application. However, we need to know at least some of your childhood and what happened before this incident. This was quite an interesting bio, but if you plan on having your character remember his past, or even if you don't, we want to know at least some of his childhood and early life leading up to the situation which he lost his memory.

You have 24 hours to make this change, please message me when you've done so.
