Letter To Malin's People #3

*The poster of these new letters (a cloaked and hooded Elf) pauses at one notice-board midway through his route.  It is COVERED in letters and notices, representing the factions of modern Elven society.  The poster ideally leans against it, as he skims the meat of the board.  There is a great shudder, and the front of the plastering of paper slides off the board like an avalanche.  The hooded poster grins, and, trodding on Ebs's pessimistic view of the future, nails up Treemail's letter*

To whom it may concern-

We in a bad state.  That being the Elvish state, of course.  We are split into factions, each of which is hoping the other shall die.  We are beset by the Roses and others who act as the Flays used to.  This should not be an issue, if not for the prevalence of the rebellious factionsBecause of this, we have ourselves neatly exposed to those who appear to want no less that complete and total destruction of ElvesWe are in a bad state.  We appear now to being forced to choose between the lesser of several evils, and hope the Arcane Delvers can take control before the flag of some Oren house can rise above the undergrowth.

I can say that the Elvish Republican Army has been shown to be rather shortsighted in its goals.  I can say that Kolyat and the other officials leaving was rather shortsighted.  Granted they were rather forced into it, yet we now find ourselves in the jam.  I can say, also, that the current Council (apart from Titania) and Sentinelcommand staff  (apart from Serva Rose) seem to be doing nothing.  They may feel it is an impossible situation.  That is no excuse.  However, I doubt the great majority of the Elvish populace (and especially those who say they can) could do any better.  If anyone can inform me of measures being taken to stave off our approaching demise, I would be most obliged.

I now go to the issue of the Sentinels.  They number all of ten, according to their own registry-boardSome days ago I had an image in my head which I believe illustrates the current situation, despite being created during the threat of rebellion.  It is that of an Elf, representing the Council, who is reaching for a bucket to put out the fire in front of him; the fire, of course, representing the rebellion the image was formed duringThe bucket is labeled "Sentinels," and the bottom is rotted out.  As much as I respect and admire Mr. Rose as a model officer in these troubled times, even he cannot do what is required to hold our position against the precipice with TEN SOLDIERS.  Said one gentleman in response to one of my letters: "{The Sentinels are not meant} to fight full-scale wars unaided."  Now they seem to have to, and we are all (I assume) regretting our former beliefs and complacency.

The Sentinels are weakened, obviously, by those who would not serve because of their ties to the revolutionary factions.  Here, again, is evidence of the shortsightedness of people who don't have the decency to give our enemies a unified front.

So it is that in this I have spent another perfectly good hour writing something that says nothing insightful, of helpful, or even vaguely intelligent.  In this it seen I have reached an all-time low.  But such is the nature of the worldIn addition, I had nothing better to do but rage against our approaching demise.

Yours Truly, this day and every day,

O. Sylvanus Treemail~
