A Requested Correspondence

Your most gracious Imperial Majesty, Emperor Godfrey of Horen first of his name,

---- I write to you on your own request regarding the current situation and hostilities between the House Carrion and my own House. From the information I have gathered from your letter it is to my understanding that the House Carrion are troubled by the recent construction of a military instillation within reach of their own, and find it restricting towards their goals. I would do you no such dishonor such as lying to you - it is planned as a restriction. For years now the House Carrion's keep has loomed over the lands of my House. This is without a double a very troublesome sight, given the House's rather hostile reputation. It was to my full knowledge that should the crown authority be lowered, as it most recently has, that it should be likely we would come to blows.

---- This has been a major contributing factor as to why I have ordered my people to begin construction on our own military installation. This is of course, among other reasons. My town is not a fortified one, and with it's growing population I have found it more and more necessary to improve the defense of my land. Along with this is the quickly growing numbers among my ranks, and the need to house them, as our current barracks is a rather small one.

---- Finally, regarding the later issue mentioned in your letter, involving the accusations of my inability to cooperate with the Lord Carrion - I stepped outside one evening, several days back to see Lord Carrion and several of his men marching through my streets, clad in armor and swords drawn. He came regarding the matter, and while it is true to some extent that I refused to cooperate it is not the whole truth. I simply requested that the Lord Carrion be civil on the matter, sheathing his blade and sending his men home so that we may speak as proper gentlemen, a proposition to which he refused, storming back to his lands and calling back threats upon me and my people along the way.

---- I do not wish to fight the House Carrion, and I am certain that you can see this. I have no wishes to break the Emperor's peace. Lord Carrion has been granted land shared on a plateau with my House, and I have respected this fact, but I feel as if his ambitions have gotten the better of him, and he seeks to hold a much larger portion of the land I like to consider my own under your most gracious granting. I truthfully can think of several options in this situation. Firstly, we could come to a solution that may only be considered temporary, as hostilities will likely remain, in that we may simply draw a border across a section of the land, clarifying on the borders which you have already set. Secondly, my favored option, and a biased one, of course, is the option to remove the keep of House Carrion, and more their hall elsewhere. This situation would no doubt set back the House Carrion as a whole, though they would receive full support through resources from my own House to construct a keep elsewhere. With this option I do believe all tensions would be lifted. Thirdly, my least favored option, is to grant the House Carrion the plateau neighboring that of my town. Obviously this would anger both me and my House, and would be considered unjust. Finally, there is the option of letting our two Houses settle our dispute by taking up arms. This would be needlessly spilling blood on your soil, and I pray that our dispute will not lead to such hostilities.

---- As usual, I shall trust in your judgement, and I patiently await your word.

Your Faithful Servant,

Codrik Green, Count of Kilburn
