Donation Faqs And Plots.

Hey folks. Sorry to bug with this but sometime after Asulon the donation system was changed quite a bit and after searching I cannot find a clear answer for a couple of questions:

What was the reasoning for taking away the small plots of land for people that donate to keep the server running? Is there ANY donor level that still gives this? It was really disheartening to find that out without any obvious notice.

Since we lost the ability to get 30x30 plots of protected region what exactly is the process for earning one? Is there a form/petition/post that needs to be made? Is it done to specific people in each kingdom? If so, who are those people? Does it specifically require only minas or are there other options? Is this even allowed?

Thanks for your time for reading this.

On a side note, it would be good to update the Donation FAQs to reflect whatever changes have come up since the 3.0 change.

I believe it was to keep the server looking good and our world functioning properly. When you start putting in little plots you end up with big developments that don't make a huge amount of sense spread out across the world in a manner that lacks thought. Native designed this world beautifully and there are also many things that are 'natural' beauties like ancient fountains and curious abandoned buildings etc. Not handing out plots keeps things beautiful. History has proven that.

But on another note, there was an urge to show that donations are in no way mandatory and players don't need to donate to roleplay to the fullest. Perhaps it sends a better message to someone when the OOC rich and poor must go through the same steps to find a home or set up a shop.

Unprotected land plots will start opening up, but that comes with a "soon". Getting a space of your own depends on what it is you are wanting to use this space for. But the way to do it is have things unfold naturally in roleplay. You need to speak to a nations leader to get perms, and they will sell or give you a space. If you are wanting something bigger and grander then you start developing things and lore to the point that in-game you can't proceed without land of your own, and then talk to a GM about it.

^That is the reasoning, and you can get land simply through RP. Speak to a nation leader for land, things of that sort. You may have to pay minas for the land, or it may be free. All RP now.

I understand the reasoning you brought up. From my past I know I used my plots very carefully and make sure it wasn't out of control out of lore. Built and ran the cloud temple library in Aegis, a halfling burrow and the large graveyard near cloud temple in Asulon.

What I'm just wishing for is a small farm and halfling burrow along the main road that is a little more simple than what I've seen in some of the cities.  Something that isn't an eyesore at all, but a great looking home with the right vibe of LOTC that also isnt 2000 blocks away from traffic. I really feel like some of the places out there are over the top grandeur.

The whole unprotected lands isn't something im interested in at all. We used to have a small region given to us to use as we please and it was a major part of donating multiple times on multiple accounts. Was really a shame to see that it was taken away.

Part of the reason I ask is that purely through RP for a character like a Halfling fisherman means it will be well beyond any reasonable means to gather piles of Minas for a 30x30 little plot. Guess Im just.. sol.

The halfling land extends out pretty far towards the road. You should be able to get a spot there easily. You have to talk to one of the leaders Milo and Bobo (if memory serves).

We want to cut down on donation (an out-of-character mechanic) affecting in-character too much. Most of the other donation perks that affect in-character matters (such as the minas bonuses) are no longer present as well.

The thing people don't realize is that a lot of these perks were ideas by Vaq, who didn't understand (or care to try) the aspects of an RP server.  If it could make money it was thrown in.  If you might recall for a while people could get stat resets by paying, etc all sorts of "pay-to-win" features that were just unfair.  Also, VIPs would be able to have a higher skill level than some in the old skills plugin, you can start to see his mindset behind this.  It's more of a survival/factions server mentality rather than RP.  So now that we have a-competent programmers and developers and b-people who understand RP on our developing team, we are able to look at what perks don't belong and what perks should be implemented otherwise.  You should never look for any type of in game or in character boost from something you do out of game.  I even think we should allow LWC out of donation, but that's a debate for another time.

Great discussion. Thanks for all 4 of your guys' responses. Makes a LOT more sense now.

Hopefully I can hussle my way through the system :)
