Hey there, i've spent the vast majority of this afternoon developing a character for my application.
I've settled on a Human Northerner, and would like to ask a small question about my characters past.

So, the idea for my character is that they lived on a small homestead with their father. Their mother died during childbirth and they grew up with their father. At around age 11/12, the father died and the character, now unable to maintain their home and animals, took to a life of petty thievery. Stealing from market stalls just to eat, mugging innocent citizens and sleeping rough with not a great life. When they turned 18, after a short time spent in a local jail cell, they decided to turn their life around and join local militia/army/town guards, with the hope of becoming a knight some day.

What's the general opinion on having a history of petty crime? Would I have to fill in a villain application or not?
Also what sort of combat careers are there available for my character? Guards? Faction armies etc? Just so I can refine the description for my application.
My character is a girl, can females be knighted or is this like other RPG's in the sense that gender makes no difference in the opportunities a character has in their life?

Petty crime should be fine, as long as you don't plan on doing it ingame without getting a VA.

 

 

Also what sort of combat careers are there available for my character? Guards? Faction armies etc? Just so I can refine the description for my application.

 

Absolutely tons of stuff. Every Nation has a standing military force of some kind so you can just pick what you like. I'm pretty sure if you walk into any town and ask for a job as a Guard you can find work.

Can females be knighted? Technically yes, but it's extremely difficult and Oren is quite sexist on that matter. I'm sure it's possible though, if you prove yourself sufficiently.

I would recommend the mugging and more threatening acts like that happen when they are 15-17. Also there are many military Orders one could join. And a female character can become a female knight formally known as a Dame. I have seen very few Dames. But it is quite hard to become a squire to eventually become knighted. You must prove your worth to a knight, King, or High Nobility.
