What Is An Emote? [Solved]

Hi, I have been looking around the world and the forum, but I'm confused by this thing people keep mentioning called an emote. At first I thought it was a type of in-game emoticon but after reading through some guides I realise it must be something more than that. Without knowing what it actually is though these guides are quite confusing and I'm trying to decipher what it is just from reading. I don't want to make any assumptions on what it is though I assume it's an in-game feature, that's all I can tell so far, that it's a feature.

Since there's no explanation for it I take it it's just assumed we should already know what it is and I don't think that's very fair. Tried searching on the forums for it but it just said that there are no results for the word "emote". I know this isn't true as I've seen the word used so the search isn't reliable.

Can anyone please explain it to a pre-application newbie?

It's essentially a action.

*attacks, sending his sword in a slash towards Jimmy's neck.

That's a emote. It'd be seen on the screen as.

[Name] attacks, sending his sword in a slash towards Jimmy's neck.

You can perform in emote in game by putting an asterix (*) before the action. After dong so, the emote will appear in the text, say your character is called Bob, you would go *looks at Phil with a slight smirk as he carefully slips a card inside his sleeve and then it would pop up in the text box as Bob looks at Phil with a slight smirk as he carefully slips a card into his sleeve.

Hope this helps.
