  1. Issued on the 8th of Horens Calling in the Year of our Lord 67 B.A. “Have you ever wondered how nature gets its glow? Who gives it light and color as the seasons come and go? Who helps all the creatures, great and small, to walk, to swim, to fly? Who crafts such tiny details? You might see them if you try. For it's all the work of fairies, but they stay well out of sight. And the first time that a baby laughs, a fairy’s life takes flight.” ~ W. d’Nee The Princess Royal Elena Casimira and the Baron of Enderoca, Robert de Lyons, are pleased to announce the birth of their second child, a daughter who will henceforth be known as. . . 2. Issued 17th of Sun’s Smile, 65 BA It was the starry nights and spray of sea salt air which allowed time to feel stagnant over the many months. Pains and aches came and went yet it was the consistency of the air and the sky itself which maintained its repetition. Months of seclusion and worry, followed by the sudden burst of life felt like a shock of cold saltwater mixed with the emotions of joy and love felt like an enigma, although it seemed to be one more consistent fact that remained. The Princess Royal Elena Casimira and the Baron of Enderoca, Robert de Lyons, are pleased to announce the birth of their first child, their son and heir. 5. A HOME FOR THE SCHOLAR, ADVENTURER OR ALCHEMIC PURSUER. My spine is stiff, body frail and I am always ready to tell a tale. I have lots to say yet never speak, treasures and adventures many turn to me to seek. My leaves do not change, though they turn; from me you vanish, experience or learn. Acquired by King, Soldier, Knight or Fool, I am most seen as the scholar's tool. What am I? Founded in the capital city of Atrus within the lands of Almaris, Leni’s Tomes & Trinkets is a well-known Balianese shop which contains a vast collection of books which has been accumulated over multiple human lifetimes spanning over all genres and specificities. Located within the capital city of the Kingdom of Balian, Leni’s Tomes & Trinkets can be found off the main square of Portoregne, close to the front gates of the city. From fiction to scientific works, our collection is very broad while also hosting pieces which could very easily satisfy your specific wants. Every book is for sale, yet some prices may not be listed in order to ensure the quality of the buyer previous to purchase. Each tome tells a story and belongs in an environment which will preserve its tale for more lifetimes to come. The latter part of the store's name does indeed ring true as different baubles and trinkets are put on display for purchase as well. Each trinket will be displayed one at a time to avoid the bloat and hoarding of the unique pieces. This includes the books as well, certain literature only remaining on the shelves for a specific time in order to offer further variety and include specific interest and niches for our patrons. Within these new and wild lands, the Trinkets section of the shop will soon be flooded with items that will be completely available at a reasonable price as Leni’s Tomes & Trinkets believes adventuring and archaeological finds should be available to everyone. Trinkets, unless collected in large quantities, will be supplied sparsely with no particular order or consistency as their collection is solely based on the quantity upon discovery. Should a patron be interested in a particular trinket, they need only leave a commission slip within the shop’s mailbox and a response will be given promptly. After many years of mastering the alchemical arts, Leni’s Tomes & Trinkets will now be open to alchemy commissions and will also be supplying basic or random potions and herbs whenever gathered and made during free time. Similarly to the Trinkets section of the shop, there will be no order to what is made, nor what will be supplied as herbs and reagents are often acquired randomly. Should a patron be interested in a specific herb or potion, they are encouraged to leave a commission note within the mailbox located to the left of the shop’s entrance. Everything which is displayed within the store is for sale, a buyer need only ask or contact the shop owner. Should a buyer fail in their search for a specific book or topic, a letter may be penned to the owner to schedule a meeting where the staff or owner of the store will go on their own search to write or seek out such an item for said patron or customer, the same applying to trinkets as well. Optional services such as these may come at varying prices and will be discussed and set upon meeting.
  6. Standing on the docks of the Balianese capital harbour, the Princess Royal's arm would ache after many minutes of waving to her sister in farewell as her ship soon began to disappear into the horizon. Tears would stream down her face as she came to accept her sister's departure, as difficult as it may be for her. Memories of a young child squirming within her arms would flash through Elena's mind, recalling the days of being granted the blessing of becoming an older sibling and knowing she would grow to be as proud of her little Lydia as she was the day she departed for lands beyond.
  7. Upon the discovery of her newly granted divorce gone public, Adelajda vas Ruthern would exit her room for the first time in years in search of her childhood best friend and sister in law, a bright smile beaming upon her face. This happiness, however, did not last as she was met with a loss she had not sought out.
  8. As the newly printed paper would come across the desk of the Legate’s Office, Princess Elena’s brow would furrow upon final inspection. “A bit crude of a paper to insult our allies and spread misinformation.” Muttered the Princess Royal before offering her own concluding remarks. “My mother would be disappointed someone would use her signature animal for such a publication.”
  9. The Wedding of Elena Novellen and Robyn de Lyons It is with great happiness that the Crown announces the engagement of the Princess Royal Elena Casimira and Segnor Robyn de Lyons to be wed. An innocent friendship between youths quickly blossomed into a strong love which has endured tragedy and has crossed continents, only now to be joined in holy matrimony. For years the couple has worked in service to the Crown and Kingdom and now the same will soon continue with the two united as man and wife. THE NUPTIAL CEREMONY The official wedding ceremony will be open to the public citizens of Balian and the allies of the Kingdom. Held directly outside of the capital, an island discovered to host a looking glass pool akin to the blessed Waters of Gamesh was discovered by the engaged couple upon their first excursions into these strange and uncharted lands which would eventually grow into the capital of Potoregne. Conducted by His Eminence, Teodosio Cardinal Tyria, the ceremony will take place upon the Isle de la Esten. Following the ceremony, celebrations will be held in the ballroom of the Palatio Arancione where food, drinks and further merriment will take place. 11. Princess Elena would blink in surprise at the missive. “Oh look, that’s me!”
  12. I feel like I have been very lucky during my time on LOTC with the characters I’ve played and the opportunities I’ve had. I’ve been able to play a Queen, noble Peer (briefly), and now Princess Royal which has been a long-time dream which I’m so happy I have that opportunity. As for what might be next, I’d love to get into Druidism or maybe dark magic one day with different characters. I might also someday want to be a noble Peer once more and possible have a second shot at being Queen. Time will tell I suppose! :))
  13. It would be late in the evening when the Princess Royal would receive the invitation, expressions of surprise and confusion crossing over the Novellen’s features. Quickly, Elena would pocket the parchment, assuring no one in the Monterosa Palace had seen the identifiable seal. . .
  14. A smile would grace the lips of a Queen long since passed, pride filling her soul as yet another great queen was soon to come.
  15. INCIDENT REPORT: [!] A sketch of the Princess Royal’s stolen busts. On this day, 13th of Godfrey’s Triumph in the year of our lord 55 BA, a most serious offence to the crown and the Royal Family was discovered. The Princess Royal, Elena Casimira, had returned to her rooms after a long and arduous diplomatic journey to find that the door to her Royal apartments had been broken down, shattering wood littering the surrounding area. To the shock of her and her guards, the destruction continued into her rooms and up the stairs to her sleeping chambers. Upon inspection, broken glass and wood were found at the closet door of the Princess’s apartment and two busts were missing from her collection. A display case was shattered yet the only busts which were taken were those depicting the Imperatrix Tiara and the Rosemoor Crown. Let it be known that each bust was created and carefully crafted to mimic the Princess’s likeness with a piece of jewellery carved into it, primarily pieces she is most fond of. INCIDENT REPORT LOCATION: ☩ The Palatio Monterosa ☩ Second Floor ☩ The Chambers of the Princess Royal DATE: 13 of Godfrey’s Triumph 55 BA CRIME SCENE: ☩ Broken Front Door ☩ Shattered Wood on the Floor ☩ Broken Glass from Display Case ☩ Broken Closet Door MISSING ITEMS: ☩ A Bust Depicting Princess Elena Wearing the Imperatrix Tiara ☩ A Bust Depicting Princess Elena Wearing the Rosemoor Crown SUSPECTS: TBD Let it be known that although Princess Elena’s personal collection of busts were disrusted and stolen from, nothing of import was stolen from the chambers of Her Royal Highness. The tiaras, which were carved and depicted on the busts were simple, coloured marble pieces. The true relics remain in the royal vault safe and untouched by treasonous individuals who may wish to pluck them for the taking. This being said, Her Royal Highness wishes that those reading this who did partake in the heist of her chambers do enjoy the busts bearing her likeness. She hopes that they serve as a reminder of their youths and they display them proudly within their homes, for those who enter will recognise their host as a petty thief. May God watch over you. Signed, HER ROYAL HIGHNESS, Princess Elena Casimira, The Princess Royal of Balian & Countess of Rosemoor.

  17. Elena rejoices in the birth of her niece!
  18. It was unlike any feeling she had ever felt before, the feeling of grief. Surely the Princess Royal had felt loss, yet nothing compared to the loss of a parent, especially one you are fond of. And so, as Princess Elena sat at the bedside of the now deceased King of Balian @Shmeepicus, she had to use her prodigal brain once more to understand and recognise the pain she finally felt. For now, as she released the cold hand of her dead father, the young Novellen would contemplate her next move, a trip perhaps to visit old friends. For one thing was certain, she was not prepared to deal with such an emotional occurrence as this. . .
  19. [!] A charcoal sketch created by a local Balianese artist depicting the Princess Elena and her time spent translating the seventh Lothar Tablet, circa 51 BA. The jingling of his wares came first, echoing throughout the city, akin to an owner luring their pet with the promise of treats. I often pay mine to the traveling merchants who frequent Atrus, and not for their wares. Stories which these men and women hold have always been more valuable to me than any simple trinket they carry around with them. Of course, I always buy a book or shiny object in payment for the stories shared, but nothing I would hold to such value. This time, an unfamiliar face entered our capital city. You would think this man was on his last journey, yet his frail and lean body pulled his cart up the hill solely by himself. Like a tree, the wrinkles on his skin presented like a storybook, displaying his age and the erosion life had upon his ancient body. Most merchants were older, yet this man could have been older than the continent by my guess. Regardless, his demeanor was kind and with shaking hands, he presented his wares to me. [!] The old merchant as he is approached by interested patrons of Atrus within the main city square. Cracked pottery and a few gold pieces were what he seemed most proud of in his display, although beneath a leather tarp I spotted a marble slab, something a bit unusual. At first he waved me off, insisting it was nothing of value and that I would have no interest in. It took a few moments of coaxing before I was given leave to look over the slab. At first, it seemed simple, a carved inscription of a foreign language along with an image of a man and woman. Its simplicity told me it did lack value, yet I recognized its features in a way. Could it be? The statistical possibility of such would be as low as less than a full decimal point. I had little time to decide as more customers had begun flocking to the cart. It would take seconds for me to provide the man with a coin pouch, and a palace stable boy to carry and escort the slab back to my rooms in the palace. My doubts remained as I fully began to examine the stone. It seemed newly carved and certainly did not depict an ancient stone lost to time with precious information of my peoples past. Typically these signs would deter me from any further investigation, yet it was the foreign language which stuck to my mind. I knew it was no current elvish, nor was it Raev or Naumariav. It was something much older. I was lucky to have acquired old Flexio translations from the works of High Pontiff Everard VI, as well as notes and research from Cardinal Teodosio’s own tablet translations of Old Bathalite at my disposal to crack the code My previous works in linguistics always seemed easily done as I have been studying the languages of Almaris for over a decade now. How hard could this translation truly be? Frottage was the easiest way for me to translate the slab without disturbing its artistic integrity. Using the parchment and charcoal to rub over the inscriptions, I was able to sketch and make footnotes separately without going through the grueling process of copying it by hand. It was a neat trick I picked up when I used to steal book pages from my fathers private collection. The translation of the text was not exactly hard. I saw it as a puzzle to unlock, or a key that needed maneuvering through a lock. A slippery key at that. Perhaps it was the notes I acquired or the experience I had in minor Flexio and linguistic translations, yet by the end of the hour I was done. My doubts were wrong. Somehow, by the grace of a higher being, a coveted Lothar Stone had fallen into my lap and I had translated it perfectly. Like the past tablets and their translations, this slab had its own theme. It was love. [!] A local draftsman's depiction of the Mad King of Balian and his court, the rough image portraying the chaotic environment of the King’s government. Throughout the translation it was clear that the Old Bathalites rejected marriage without love. Without love and trust, no union was prioritized or forced. However, when the Bathalites did decide to wed, they did so with special votive sashes before a priest. These sashes represented a union which could also be for friendships, not just for lovers. These sashes represented more than just a marriage; they represented a connection to themselves, being a physical embodiment of their soul and emotions, only to be given away through an exclusive and binding agreement such as a marriage. These votive sashes would be given to someone by a parent, or in a way of showing more importance, they would weave or sew one themselves. This was a practice done by both men and women of all social standing and was unrestricted in gender or prestige. Although marriage was an exclusive agreement, concubinage was a very common practice, especially among elites in society. It was said that the Old Bathalite Mad King once held three dozen concubines apart from his wife. Many kings were polygamous and their concubines were held as possessions unlike a spouse who was considered an equal. While concubines were common, the marital and votive sash union stood firm. Where tombs of kings were discovered, a single sash belonging to their wife was placed over their heart in order to represent the sole binding agreement between a married couple. Something to take note of is that it is highly possible for the practice of giving a favor in knighthood originates from the votive sashes of the Old Bathalites as it is commonplace in many societies today. [!] A frottaged image of the carving upon the Lothar Stone, the depiction of King Lothar and his wife, Hiwot and their exchange of votive sashes. Should one’s gaze pivot from the central point of the image, they may take note of the two knights lingering in the background, both adorned in their own sashes as a symbol of brotherly companionship in battle. Translated by Elena of Balian The people of Bathali are friends of love. Each love is a ray of the Holy Light, illuminating creation. Love comes to us first from our Creator. And passes through the family who births us. However we are also gifted new love throughout our lives. It is among these gifts we will find our chiefest love. This is the person with whom we unite our spirit. We have a ceremony for the honoring of our chiefest love. We practice this rite only once while our beloved lives. First we call upon a priest to witness us. And we thank the Creator for this gift. We remove our starry sash and exchange it with our beloved. This symbolizes the holy union of our spirits. Thereafter, in all matters we are as one heart. Our mother is the mother of our beloved. Their stars are our stars. Most often a man will give his sash to his wife. For it is impossible that two will marry unless they are each other’s chiefest loves. However the exchanging of sashes is practiced even by eunuchs in our land. For love is a matter of spirit rather than flesh. The light of the stars cannot be held with two hands. In this way, friends may also make their hearts one. This year it was done by two companion-knights. They were the son of Louis and the son of Cyricus. Thereafter they shared everything. Many women lamented, for they were graceful and their families held much property. No one gives a sash if they do not have one. They must first don their own sash as a mark of thanks to the Creator. We show we are thankful for our own heart and for the gift of our spirit. Our sash is donned when we are ready to love. Therefore when it is given away, the sash is of great significance to us. It is most commendable if woven by the giver. But the love with which it is given is more serious. Some of us have bought our sashes or inherited them. Two things are never done: Never have both sashes come from the same giver. Two spirits must be joined, and one heart is not united to itself. Never have kinsmen exchanged sashes. One family is not united to itself. If a stranger or beggar wishes to wear a sash but has none, the priest will tear a strip from his own robe. If a lover has no hands for weaving, their family will weave one. In the province of love, no one can be destitute. There are no foreigners in the land of love. In this manner, the priest of Peroz has torn his robe for many. Mighty among them was my love Hiwot, a Sahiri lady. She was foreign to us and the priest tore a sash for her. but he did not know she was skilled in swordplay and therefore nimble of hands. She had woven her own sash. And so it was finished. It was true. I had discovered a Lothar Stone and done what very few had done in translating its ancient and lost language. Was I wrong to withhold such a discovery? No. This was mine to claim and the ache behind my eyes was worth each and every minute without blinking and working by candlelight. Of all the stones I could have stumbled upon, I was given one that contains the most inconclusive and capricious of topics that I can not claim to have proper comprehension of. Yet, these people who came before me and who once called the lands of my home their own, have sent me this knowledge of which I grow to understand. Love is different than many believe it to be, according to the old Bathalites. It is not something that comes second, it is the priority to them and marriage and unions come second. Feeling and emotions take the forefront of their intentions and I can not help but admit I will never be able to visualize a society without the politicking and diplomatic etiquette we use in our time. Of course with customs and traditions lost to time, they often do not fit into the puzzle that is our current society and will not, no matter a willingness to revert to our ancient customs. [!] An image of a scholarly woman wearing the votive sash of her beloved in ancient Balian, a group of Royal Concubines traveling in a group through the grand courtyard. Although adultery may still be commonplace, I see no positive way for such a practice to come back in the form of concubinage, yet the votive sashes are something I believe to be an important symbolic practice that I hope to one day elope back into Balianese society. Relationships - love, friendship and trust is more important that we often recognize and I am firmly of the opinion that this should be reestablished. The Kingdom of Balian and its people are pure and passionate in their beliefs and in recognizing the importance of those passions, I believe only good may come. I call upon the courts to introduce and encourage the custom of votive sashes and I plead to the Basilica La Sorella and the clergymen and women within to seek out those in need and provide sashes to. In times of turmoil and strife such as now, love and friendships are of the utmost importance to remind ourselves that we are not alone and we are all descendants of brothers. Signed, HER ROYAL HIGHNESS, Princess Elena Casimira, The Princess Royal of Balian, Countess of Rosemoor

  21. The Princess Royal Elena Casimira c. 48 BA Those in their youth often find themselves wandering the world with the blessing of ignorance and naivety to the cruel world around them. Wearing their rose-colored glasses, the youth of the realm will see the world for its possibilities, rather than focusing heavily on the present state of mind and politics which seem to grow tense and more fragile day by day. In some cases, the world may be compared to a jungle, a forest plagued with danger that is not yet understood by youth because of their childish mindset. Yet, like animals within a forest and birds which chirp in the trees, all chicks and babe’s will leave their mothers' nest in search of their own purpose in life - stepping into their role as an adult and taking up their roles within the society of the natural world. It is with this mindset, that the Princess Royal, Elena Casimira, will choose to “Hope” is the thing with feathers - That perches in the soul - And sings the tune without the words - And never stops - at all - And sweetest - in the Gale - is heard - And sore must be the storm - That could abash the little Bird That kept so many warm - I’ve heard it in the chillest land - And on the strangest Sea - Yet - never - in Extremity, It asked a crumb - of me. ~ Emily Dickinson celebrate her eighteenth name day in the theme of the wilderness, as she too will step out into the wilds of adulthood and take her place amongst her peers and family and will fulfill her role to her beloved Kingdom of Balian. Open to the public, guests are encouraged to attend dressed in the theme of an animal found within the wilderness, one that represents the guests personal characteristics and personality, while still maintaining appropriate attire for the event. Suitors are welcome to come and attend the celebration with the intent to speak with His Majesty King Alexander I of Balian before conversing with Her Highness, Princess Elena. Further details of the merriment and special invitations to those held close to the Princess will be explained below. SOCIALIZING For all those in attendance, food and drink, along with many forms of entertainment will be provided. Guests are encouraged to mingle amongst one another and explain their reasoning for which animal they have chosen to attend as. Suitors who wish to speak with Princess Elena privately will be required to consult with His Majesty, the King or the Crown Prince Hadrian Casimir for permission. Upon arrival, guests should follow the proper etiquette of greeting Princess Elena prior to socializing, as Her Highness wishes to meet as many people in attendance as possible. CELEBRATORY DANCING After a great amount of socializing, guests will find that a shift in the music will indicate that it was time to take to the dance floor, the ballroom being used specifically for dancing during the evening. Akin to the etiquette of speaking with Her Highness privately, suitors and guests wishing to dance with Princess Elena will be required to speak with His Majesty the King or the Crown Prince Hadrian for permission prior. Food and drink will still be served during dancing and guests are encouraged to remain hydrated during the evening.
