Recipe: -Charcoal -Sulfur -Saltpeter -Pure Grain Alcohol Appearance: Black Powder appears in the form of a dark gray powder with lighter gray granules mixed in. Creation: The creation involves three components: Saltpeter, Sulfur, Charcoal. The composition is 75% Saltpeter, 15% Charcoal, 10% Sulfur. Each ingredient must be processed and ground down, with care not to breathe in the particulates. Prepare the charcoal first, or purchase it already made. Then take your charcoal, saltpeter and sulfur and grind those ingredients down into a very fine powder. Make sure to keep these ingredients separate for now. For the amount of the powdered mixes you've prepared, prepare about 2 cups of pure grain alcohol. First, pour half your alcohol slowly into the sulfur powder while it sits on a low heat in a wide pan. Stir it gently until the sulfur is dissolved, be very careful not to allow this mixture to catch fire while stirring. Once dissolved and stirred, you may then add the Charcoal and Saltpeter mixture. While the powders and mixing with the alcohol mixture, be sure to wear a mask to avoid inhaling any smoke. Turn off the heat, and store your mixture somewhere dark and cold for at least a day, then afterwards set it to dry in the sun. Once it is dried, break it back down into a powder gently and store it in a container somewhere cool and out of reach of children. [[ OOC: For obvious reasons, incorrect steps have been added to the creation process. This is not how you make real black powder. Please do not attempt this. ]] Raw Effect(s): A Highly reactive material, black powder when ignited will quickly spark and set on fire, only to die shortly after. This can find its uses in a variety of applications, one such is the use for fireworks, a glorious display during festivals. Signs & Symbols: [as a reagent] [Fire] and [Earth] -Chaos x1 -Heat x2 -Burning x2 Redlines: - Cannot be weaponized unless specific lore states otherwise. - Black powder on its own can't be used to create explosions of any destructive scale. - Not an alchemical Recipe - Non-alchemists can make black powder, but only alchemists can extract its symbols as a reagent. - No ST sign required Credit to TaiwanNotChina for the original iteration Credit to Sorcerio for assisting with some details Credit to Sybbyl for updated recipe & Amendments

Cannons Origin A long lost technology developed in old times. This was done through a combination of black powder and a massive barrel. Strangely, this technology was lost to the ages, though some have come to rediscover them. Description A cannon is a massive device that would make itself clear on the battlefield through a sound louder than any trebuchet; either bolted to the ground or mounted on wheels to be transported, this large weapon is employed for both defense and offense, able to deliver blasts that can rend through infantry men due to the large caliber and the amount of blackpowder that can be stuffed inside of it; however, the most efficient use was against enemy buildings, able to punch holes in thick stone walls after multiple shots. Naturally, due to the size of this monstrosity, it requires a 3 man crew in battle. Cannons bear a minimum weight of 1 ton, that being 2,000 pounds, or 907 kilograms. The projectiles cannons fire can vary greatly in size and shape, however, cannons as a general rule will be unable to fire projectiles that weigh over 40lbs (or 18 kg) any significant distance. Between at minimum 2 meters long, and at maximum 4, Cannons are and can be of very different makes and designs – though all of which achieving the same purpose. Capabilities The Cannon is capable of busting holes in fortifications and walls. Of course, that is to be expected given it is a large lead ball being shot at high speeds. When the cannon is fired it makes a deafening roar. Of course, there can be other kinds of ammunition rather than the standard ammunition. Grapeshot: Ineffective against structures, more effective towards infantry. It bombards infantry with the high speed metal balls, and can deal heavy damage and make quick work of most armors – rather short of range, a wide-spread of pellets and shot may be wildly inaccurate, but very effective against clusters of foes. Ball and Chain/Mast Cutters: Used for naval combat, the ball and chain ammunition is used to shred through sails due to the boosted velocity. When fired, the balls of the chain spread out and leave a chain which will try to catch onto something, preferably a mast, this will then tear through the structure. Explosive Shot: Utilizing Boomsteel, one would be able to carefully crate a low-density boomsteel cored shot. Given time of diffusion of heat, when made contact an amalgam of pressure, heat, and force of collision would produce an explosive significantly more powerful than any standard ammunition, decimating any 5x5x5 area with ease. Craftsman’s Shot: Given the variety of materials in the world, it is not uncommon for inventors and engineers to make up their own shot and types. Often using rare metals or magics, one could yield very different effects given their unique properties – such as Lunarite shot used as tracing rounds in darkness, or a blasting-potion shot to re-create the effects of boomsteel shot, as example. Mechanics How to use a Cannon: Requires 5 emotes to operate. Requires a 3 man crew. Red Lines/Restrictions -Always requires Five emotes to use. -Cannons may fire up to 60 meters (Shout range), unless in an Event where they may fire so much and so long as the hosting ET or ETs may allow. -No one can carry around a smaller, portable version. -Cannons may be of multiple and many lore materials, or materials in general, so long as it follows common sense- Ex. no Wood or Stone cannons (In RP, Buildwise both may be used to represent). -Cannons must always be stagnant when mounted (Still, but they may be upon wheels such as a Siege Carriage or a Cart). (Ex. no picking up through a golem, telekinesis, etc) -Cannons may not be pre-loaded before combat. All five emotes must be done during the encounter, one may not engage with a loaded or prepared cannon. -Craftsman’s Shot requires ST Signage and does not require an invention piece – this may be using Lore Materials, Alchemy, or Magic. -This does not allow for small arms to be used, the powder cannot work in such a small system. -Warclaim Stats and Usage is not written at this time, as it requires work with Moderation and Techs who will release a comprehensive siege guide at a later date. Purpose Reintroduce Cannons to be used in LoTC to fit multiple aesthetics and allow for them to be used in Warclaims like in the old days. Credits to Dargrind, for aspects of his Falkenade piece. Credits to Mirtok/Markosi, for aspects of his Siege Cannon piece. Credits to ST, for their contribution in edits and review upon the piece.

I don't think so boss. Dent, sure, penetration? I don't think so man. I think the people you've seen who have been roleplaying arbalests might be godmodding crossbows. Hardly anything can penetrate tempered steel, the Chad medieval tank is an absolute unit in full plate. Or maybe skall is wrong and I'm missing something. Also, I believe you mean full plate, or full harness, not “platemail”

For anyone about to talk about app locking, there will be a post coming up soon. I'd standby before going off about it

the point behind that note is to say that one cannot make something greater than a crossbow anyone else can make. That’s all I’ll give you, chief. Thanks, chief.

The primary use of alchemy; to concoct and create potions which bear a plethora of effects. The creation of potion is performed through the process of Mixing - that is, the addition of signs or symbols to a base. Often, various additional steps will be necessary to unlock further potency in the final creation - varying from product to product. These are split into three layers of complexity, that of the apprentice, journeyman and master alchemist (tiers one to three respectively) and are as follows: Potion Emote Counts: [1] To draw potion — [1] To prime the potion (Shaking, adding primer, etc.) — [1] Throw/Consumption & Emote Effects —[+] Any other necessary emotes. - Potions being primed would stay primed for two emotes, until once more becoming inert. Once inert, a potion must be primed again to be activated. Drawing/Throwing a potion does not count as priming a potion. - Potions would go inert and unable to be primed when their holder connected to a magic, or used an enchantment. Potions remain inert until two emotes after the user disconnects from a magic or stops using an enchantment. - Atronachs and mages with the Voidstalking feat always count as being connected to a magic or using an enchantment, thus are unable to prime potions. Treatments: - Items may have, in alchemical pages where explicitly permitted and instructed, permanent treatments applied to them. These items may be things such as respirators, masks, etc. - Items with alchemical treatments on them (where lore may otherwise apply) require application or upkeep. Luminosity Potion (Common | T1) Giving credit to its name as, this is quite literally light in a bottle. It is often employed by spelunkers and miners in order to navigate throughout darkened caves with a mere vial of alchemic liquid as opposed to carrying around entire lanterns. Flash Powder (Common | T1) Used by Alchemists for crowd control, or for shows, the Flash Point emits a bright light on harsh contact, much like a flare. Air Purifier (Common | T1) A thin vapor which neutralizes harmful or toxic inhalants, much like Liquid Purifier. It is most well-known for its ability to counter certain air-borne alchemical substances. Smoke Whispers (Common | T2) Another simpler concoction utilized by thieves and criminals, often to escape from law-enforcing pursuers. Essentially, it is a liquid that when comes into contact with air evaporates into a cloud of grey smoke which can inhibit vision, essentially an alchemic smoke bomb. Will o' Bottle (Common | T2) Used often for cultural practices, combat, and so on, Will o' Bottles are the product of vain attempts to recreate the fabled Alchemist's Fire. Thornskin Salve (Common | T2) A thick, dense concoction which would be better described as a salve than a potion. Upon application to one’s skin; rough, spikes resembling thorns would form from the flesh. Tanglefoot Potion (Common | T2) A viscous, gooey concoction which many Alchemists employ for hunting creatures, or offer it to guards in order to ensnare fleeing criminals. The goo itself is incredibly durable and sticky, and tends to be a very strong adhesive when attached to things, making it an excellent use for anything from patching up holes to trapping an animal. Blasting Potion (Common | T3) An alchemical concoction which, upon release, creates a concussive blast. Potion of Acuity (Common | T3) Employed by Hexers of the Hexcanium, this concoction heightens the senses of the individual who consumes it; primarily their hearing, eyesight, and reflexive abilities. Water Breathing (Common | T3) A relatively self-explanatory concoction, allowing the consumer to breathe underwater for a short period of time; though perhaps longer should they treat it in a respirator. Cat's Eye Potion (Common | T3) Often used by hunters and scavengers, this potion provides one with the ability to see in the dark. Heat-Sight Potion (Common | T3) Employed by the Cockatrice Initiative during Mordskov, this potion granted a new form of vision, allowing those who consumed it to be able to see heat. Arcana Flow (Common | T3) Used from guards to appraisers in order to determine if an item possesses a magical nature, this tincture allows one to see if something is magical or not, if by any means. Land's Nurture (Common | T1) A concoction made as a means to facilitate and nurture regents and creatures that normally could not survive in certain climates, often employed by botanists or herbalists in order to keep their various herbs alive in less favorable environments. Solidarity Unction (Common | T3) The Solidifying Formula is a concoction which when exposed to air, causes the liquid to crystalize and harden to a more solid state over the course of a few ticks, and depending on the type of modifiers and strength an Alchemist makes the formula, it can prove to be rather strong, like that of steel. Dragon's Breath (Common | T3) Sought after by performers and jesters as a means of enhancing their shows, Dragon’s Breath is a concoction that, when ingested, temporarily allows the user breath fire or ice, used often by entertainers to light torches aflame in their shows. Arctic Mists (Common | T3) A potent potion which imitates the frigid arctic winds which derive its name, exploding into a subzero mist which can freeze whatever it touches. GENERAL REDLINES POTION FORMAT This is used to make sure future potions are created in a similar format. CREDITS Sour_Doh – Writer Pund – Writer Mordu – Edits and Consultation

“It is all entwined. We believe we can write fate, but truly, we are sleeping slaves, unlike you -- changeling.“ The Wheel of Fortune 1540, an Alchemist by the name of Klaus -- the former Castellan Engineer of the Empire -- prepared a ritual. He drew salt rings around his person, writing curious signs between them, forming a network with these arcane sigils, a typical rite to hop to other worlds. He was driven, intent on using this as a means to get closer to finishing his great work. He carefully drew the markings, staring behind his respirator; he always wore the thing, fearing he would traverse to a world with harmful air, among other things. As he wrote, thoughts raced through his mind, questioning the laws of the world, and wondering what world he will end up in this time. He recalled that he was trapped in a world, gothic in nature. It was filled with the supernatural being heavy in that place -- vampiric things, demonic cults, lycanthropes, occultists - both by magic and creature -- he found his way out, breaking the seal that stopped him from leaving. While a nightmarish thought, he enjoyed visiting that place from time to time, actually enjoying it there, though he was excited for a new adventure -- a new place to record. Once he completed the network, he cited the rites, and with his tools and pack of provisions, the fellow vanished, with charred wood in his wake. Traversing planes was always strange, it felt like one was being shot forward and even though it was an instant, he could feel the vapor rise from his person; the force causing him to enter a three-point landing as he found himself in a new world. The dunes whipped harshly at his goggles; he could hardly see in the thick of the sandstorm, and the sand around him flowed like a sea - an aggressive sea. He gurgled as he dropped to his knees while trying to stand, clutching his heart. He knew the situation he was in. When one shunts too often, there is a high chance they feel the recoil of “Shunter’s Sickness”, a duration where the traversal of planes is not kind to the body, and causes some issues due to the sheer stress of hoping; in this instance, it was being quite cruel. He had to get out of this storm, he could not take the elixir he fashioned to help combat the sickness. He looked around frantically, as he trudged through the sands, the dunes whipping his person. He kept clutching his breast, using his other hand to help keep the biting sands from hitting his goggles. He found some semblance of a structure, or atleast one he could make out. He felt like he was going to vomit, and his heart kept aching. The fellow moved with what haste he could offer, and eventually found himself at the structure; a closed door of some ruin-- looking like an old watch tower of some kind -- he opened the door with what force he can muster, and slipped in through the slit he made. It was a dark place, though oddly well kept. The fellow ignited a light with his alchemical compound, dropping it on the ground to let the rods light spring out. Gasping, he fell down, he felt like his heart was about to explode; his shaking hand pulled a flask from his pack, and undid his respirator, letting it fall. Klaus quickly took the elixir, already feeling it take effect - his heart calmed, and the sick feeling he had in his stomach faded. He was panting and gasping, clutching his heart as the effect faded. He was stable again. Spitting, he’d put on his respirator again, corking and stowing his elixir away. The fellow could now examine the room around him; truly, his first brief observation was right -- it was way too neat for something abandoned, as though someone was vacating this place. But what were they doing away from here? The planeswalker thought. He kept a hand on his side as he moved up, noting the stairs. He could see strange markings on the ground, as he got to a higher view. Planar markings, things he’s seen before in other worlds; though he also noticed strange ripples along the walls as he ascended to the next floor, it was as though whatever was in the watchtower knew he was here. He came to the next floor; it was far well cared for than the one below -- what was an armory was covered with an array of weapons, tulwars, swordstaffs, composite bows, the likes; which was understandable, save for the fact they were all there and in pristine condition and that there was a table for two in front of him, with an orb in the center, an orb that seemed to swell with an image of the cosmos. He came closer, only to move back; though the orb would not let him. He heard the sound of snapping fingers behind him, and before he could pull the hand-launcher from its holster on his side and turn around, the orb reacted violently - it expelled this dark fog with blue clumps, covering his person - he couldn’t even yelp or shoot. He saw nothing for a short while, the infinite black of the great expanse. Then, it all showed itself; he saw lights and the cosmos around him, and looking below was some kind of nebula formation, though the floor felt like glass. “And so fate answers.” He heard the deep and gravelly voice from ahead of him, which caused Klaus to look up; seeing a figure, perhaps 2 meters in height and burly in shape. Its sculpted bare arms were of a caramel color, with darker leathery scales around the massive bicep and forearms, and broad shoulders peaked out of a purple and green vest. It wore baggy trousers that were stopped by long, curved boots; though its face was the strangest thing he saw; the thing had four eyes, staring at him from behind a mask, with the upper portion shadowed slightly by its turban. “I’m here for you, but I am not here to kill you -- Planeswalker.” The figure quickly followed, which relaxed Klaus, somewhat. “... may I ask who you are.” The figure moved a hand to his side, which caused to grip his weapon tighter; though he’d relax as the presumed man drew a card, a tarot by the looks of it. He’d flick it to Klaus, who caught and turned it over to reveal “The Wheel of Fortune”. “I go by many names, much like you, changeling. You can call me The Wheel of Fortune” Klaus tensed up. “You know what I am?” “I am aware. I like to keep tabs on so called ‘Shunters’. I’ve seen your work, and I must say I am impressed. We are always looking for people like you, those that can bend fate.” “I’m confused. Bend fate? And who is this we?” The Wheel of Fortune signed, muttering something as he came closer, towering over Klaus. “There is a notion that we are all bound by fate; meant to follow the cycle. Men, women; they must follow the song and step of the world, for that is the cosmic way. The organization I represent -- one can say we work closely with it; we give people the means to bend their fates. We do… jobs on the cosmic level.” “What do you mean? The wyrd may exist, but we have the ability to write our own destiny. We don’t need to follow a cycle.” This caused The Wheel to chuckle, revealing four more muscular arms that patted his stomach. “I like your idea, but in reality -- it is all entwined. We believe we can write fate, but truly, we are sleeping slaves, unlike you -- changeling. You are able to hop worlds, create new branches in destiny, and without a device. We have reason to believe that once one is able to transcend their plane, they are unbound by their cycle, and can write their own path in fate.” Klaus took a while to register this, nodding in response as he kept listening. “My fate has had you show up here, this small chance, in an infinite sea! The organization would like to invite you to join its ranks. We’ve seen your work, and your curiosity, I’ve seen you enter Val’Garis and other planes. You’ll do well.“ “You want me to be a contractor with your organization? I… er, it does sound like I’ll be able to see more worlds, but please -- I have a wife at home, who I love more than anything, a son too. I can’t just… leave them.” “Planeswalker. Believe me, my fifth eye tells me that it would be better for them if you kept at your goal. It is… much safer that way. Besides, if things manage to work out, I’m sure you can still visit and be with them. We don’t ask you to stay on our plane all the time, and you can take whatever contracts you choose, and they are all… high paying. You’ll be well compensated.” “Surely there’s... “ Klaus tilted his head, eying the scape around them, and then looking to the many eyed titan. “I don’t need to sign my soul, do I? Is there a catch?” This caused the figure to reel back and guffaw, eyes spinning. “[They] were right about you, how skeptical. No, there is nothing like that from us, though I will debrief you and give you your first job, should you accept our… invitation.” Klaus contemplated this, looking away for a moment, as he thought about his wife and child, and the wonders this job could do for them, the compensation could give them a good life, a life away from the world he so despised. “I accept.” The planeswalker said with a sense of finality. “I will join your Guild.” “Then it is so.” The Wheel responded, offering a hand to Klaus, to which the man accepted.

Another parchment follows, landing in places wherever they may be. Written is: “I hope this letter finds all who read it well. I’ve been traveling this land for quite some time; it is rather foreign to my true home, perhaps more chaotic and crude at times, though it is always quite interesting to see how the people of this world progress. I send this out in hope to find Alchemists who would be willing to have a chat with me. I find myself seeking the company of true Philosophers of Fire, as I myself am one of those thriving few. Do send word for me via Aviary; perhaps we can talk shop about Alchemical knowledge.” Best regards, Johan Schmidt (SourDough#8909 if you want to hit me up)

parchments are sent out to all libraries and places of information. It reads: “Good ‘Eve, Alchemists, Herbalists, and so on. I find that when I was wandering this world, it seems many lack some useful tidbits. It is strange to me that few know this, so I figure I will give this out. For all to prosper. This field carried by the shoulders of giants, and thus I feel obligated to give my knowledge to all; and I suspect there is more to this, much much more. Below, detail Alchemical recipes useful for medicine and – for the clever – other means.” With care, Johan Schmidt.

That was a lot of reading. Cool. So, for the people who know who I am (and also searched my lore submissions, what a treat), it's likely one knows what my answer is. I'll give a better response tomorrow when I'm able to type more, but a spark notes version would be: Guns, cool, we as a community can shape it to fit the aesthetic and be balanced. Honestly, I want cannons more than anything, but I mean -- handheld shooty sticks? Risk vs reward (RISK OF RAIN BOYS), and possible new avenues to do role-play? (I see you Oren nobles trying to settle feuds about getting cucked or being slighted somehow, I see you). Sounds like a fun time. Though I see validity in the argument against guns too. I'll get to this tomorrow. Hope everyone is doing alright in the midst of what's going on! Your friend, and possibly lover (hit me up on that discord you know what I'm saying), P.S maybe it's time to write another lore post. I like powder but I also like other nonmagic aesthetics. Me alchemy ungabunga monkey who violate techlock and make people mad and sad. ME HOARDER so watch out, hehe
