Cooking is pretty much straight forward really. Just make things in the nexus menu. Farming however, after a certain level (I believe Adept) you can get alchemy ingredients by tilling dirt with a hoe. And, there is a possibility of getting caskets by breaking wheat with a diamond hoe or gold hoe after a certain level (I believe adept as well.)

Cooking gives more access to different (random) recipes as you level up. Honestly though I haven't seen a /single/ usage of more then 95% of the recipes. The % that is used? Vanilla

To be honest, I think it would be helpful to know exactly what you can do at each skill level, but I don't think there are in depth guides to many of the professions.

Better just take Minecraft to the monks
