  1. Hey there everyone, your friendly neighborhood media team and map-dev member SaviourMeme here. As we move further and further through the new map development process and with the onboarding of NL’s coming soon we wanted to show off some more of the map to all those that may not be lucky enough to get to experience it first hand. Please enjoy these postcards, short descriptions behind some of the inspiration and additional screenshots for each of the different biomes that are part of our new map. I hope you enjoy, and are excited as we are! Taiga: This was the blanket colder toned non-snowy biome, including both the fjords in the two bays and pine forests. This biome takes its inspiration from Skyrim. Boreal: All-things snowy biome, with a snow-covered pine forest dominating the landscape, the grass and shrubbery here is hibernating for the winter under a blanket of snow. Geyserlands: A combination between Altus Plateau and a dramaticized take on Yellowstone National Park’s most well-known features, this biome has golden leaves and grass interrupted by the occasional geyser or cluster of hot spring pools. Volcanic activity and groundwater are both in abundance here, providing warmer water to the plateau and the lands immediately below. Trees seen in this biome are gold-leafed pines and birch. Volcano: As the center of volcanic activity in the area the volcano region is dominated by burnt grass, volcanic rock and glass, and cracked earth where magma escapes to the surface. Black Forest: Sitting below the Geyserland’s biome’s plateau, the most distinguishing features of the biome are the cascading waterfalls that eventually lead to the Black Forest’s lake, which then travels out to sea by way of one of the map’s largest rivers. Designed to fit the vibe of Germany’s Black Forest, the biome boasts a darker color palette dominated mostly by pine trees. Coastal areas are rocky and its beaches are mostly gravel. Trees found in this biome are ash, fir, pine, spruce, and oak trees. Redwoods: A forest solely inhabited by the towering Redwood trees, this biome has a thick upper canopy that allows for lower-light underbrush to thrive, mainly ferns and large mushrooms. This biome was designed after redwood forests in the American Pacific Northwest region, with darker stone palettes and a mix of rocky and sandy shores. Goldleaf: A biome where deciduous trees with yellow leaves mixed with green-needled pines. Over-all this biome was made to be a calm and flowery meadow. Trees in this biome are modeled after Ponderosa Pines, maples, ash, and oak trees. Southern Shore: A biome to imitate a southern Mediterranean climate during the summer months, containing dry grassy fields littered with cypress trees, stone pines, oak, and olive trees. The western side of the strait has a reddish brown stone palette while the eastern side contains white-stoned cliffs. The shallow seas by the islands also support abundant coral life. Mesa: Modeled after Zion National Park in Utah, USA this biome is similar to the previous iterations of mesa/badland biomes however with more abundant plant-life based off of Zion NP. Trees in this biome are modeled after Ponderosa Pines and cottonwood trees. River Delta: Bayou: Designed after the swamps of Louisiana/Florida, this swamp is dominated by Bald Cypress and willow trees, with abundant plant life and difficult to traverse patches of land huddled around tree-roots amidst the discharge of the map’s longest river. Floodplains: Flat, grassy and flowery patches of land designed from the combined aesthetic of a Dutch floodplain and a more ruddy American pine woods containing variants of the Ponderosa Pine tree. Tranquil Forest/Plains: Tranquil Forest: Modeled from the flora of the American West, these woods contain Douglas Fir, Ponderosa Pines, Oak, Cottonwood and groves of Aspen trees. Plains: Flat and open terrain covered in grass and flowers only occasionally being interrupted by groves of trees. Trees in this biome are modeled after Ponderosa Pines, Oak, and Cottonwood trees. Designed after the plains of the American West; the climate is slightly arid, with lower humidity and drier earth. Azalea: A bright forest of mostly pink-leafed trees occasionally interrupted by green-leafed azalea trees sporting pink blossoms; this forest is more whimsical and fairy-tale-like than many of the other areas. The trees in this biome are more fantastical with both bonsai-like and corkscrew shaped tree trunks, as well as typical Oak and Azalea trees. Azure Woods: An enchanted blue forest that seems to always be devoid of sunlight, but abundant in glowing lights from the surrounding nature. Silverwood: An island by the southern coast distinguished by its white cliffs and silver-blue foliage. The region also has significant flower life that comes alive at night. Highlands: Based on the more dramatic terrain of the British Isles (specifically the Giant’s Causeway in Ireland and the Scottish Highlands). This biome has both grassy cliffs with rocky shores and basalt pillars as well as long sandy beaches. Both the forests and cliffs are mossy and consist of willow, scotch pine, birch, oak and ash trees. The hills have a paler hue and reduced foliage to emulate their real-life counterpart. Eternal Autumnlands: A land permanently stuck in the colorful decay of the autumn months, the region is based on the iconic fall foliage locations of New England and the Pacific Northwest. This region’s foliage consists of Maple, Oak, Beech, Birch, Red pine, White pine, Hemlock, and Douglas fir trees. Autumn Isle/Hills: Modeled after Maine & the Pacific Northwest, this region has both sandy beaches and dark pebble peaches with a darker stone palette. Autumn Meadows: Based on the grassy meadows of Vermont, this biome has similar foliage but more open and flowery fields. Crimson Valley: A mysterious land of bloody leaves and pallid snow, the Crimson Valley (or the Blisterwoods) serves as one of our major fantasy color-themed biomes. When conceptualizing Crimson Valley, inspiration was heavily drawn from the Maple Forest in Ghost of Tsushima in addition to the frozen gorges of Sekiro; that said, the Crimson Valley is NOT Eastern in theme. Crimson coniferous trees canopy overhead while a gentle frost caresses the valley floor. Unsettling sculptures too are strewn about its gorge, and groves of sanguine maples tug at the earth with visceral roots. The mystery of the Crimson Valley has yet to be revealed, and those who would dare to settle within this frigid land ought to bundle tightly lest they find themselves another prop in the snow. Storm Island: An island set in the inland sea, perpetually blanketed by a storm. Inspiration came largely from the Stormlands of ASoIaF and the dynamic weather of Ghost of Tsushima, meant to convey a stern, dour environment with sheer cliffs and the threat of thunder and rain being a constant source of palpable energy. The Storm is not a place for the faint of heart. Its beaches and shoreline are clogged with sea rocks, beaten and worn down by the elements, indicating the hidden dangers on one’s approach. Foliage is lush dark green on the ground, however the trees don’t grow as high due to potential lightning strikes, with some bearing a reddish purple for their leaves given the overcast state of the skies. Tropical Isle: Connected to land only by a low-lying sandbar, this rocky island is one of the most isolated biomes on the map, boasting a humid climate, lush tropical foliage, and sandy beaches. This is a secret! Thank you, from the Project A-Name team
