THE PASSING OF THE PETRINE LAUREL , 1936

Lo, unto the Petrans,

t has been the better part of thirty years since I have taken the helm of the government, the River Council, initially dubbed the Round Table in the earlier years of my leadership. I have seen and learned many things. Things unimaginable, of diplomacy, love, kinsmanship, war, having been the Marshal, known then as the Maresc, for many years and serving loyally throughout the Petran Civil War; this earned me the highest accolade one could receive in our great Republic, a Knighthood – and the moniker ‘the Unwavering’; this was of course before being called upon to lead the Chanzléri, a position I’d eventually learn to love.

am but a humble man. I never intended to embark on this journey of politics, but I am most glad that I did. The people that I have met, the stories I have been told – they enlighten me, they give me purpose and they have since I enlisted in the Sons of Petra in my thirteenth year. Little did I know as a boy that I would one day become the Grand Master of the Sovereign Order, the Marquis du Clermont, and so much more. I have been truly blessed.

n the way home to Nouifelle Valenstrata several months ago, I was plagued and overcome with some sort of mysterious illness that the Doctors could only rationalize as an overabundance of stress. It causes episodes of chest pain, fatigue, and the occasional fainting spell; this all is actively reducing the quality of my life.

hus it is for these reasons, that for the sake of my life, my children, and most importantly my unwavering loyalty to the Throne of Garmont;

ubsequently, my leal and competent Vice-Chanzlé Baron Sir Nicolas ‘the Good’ Wittenbach, the cheery Adunian man whom I hand-picked around a decade ago to train as my replacement for when the time came for my decision to retire, shall be my named successor. He shall be passed the Petrine Laurel in a ceremony that will come either during, or after, the next convocation of Her Majesty’s court. Stepping out of my prior role and proudly into the position of Chanzlé-Emeritus of the Commonwealth, I shall leave you all with this.

Late this last Petran day, a murder occurred within Vallagne. Seen by multiple witnesses was a man wearing a Brotherhood of Saint Karl uniform from the Kingdom of Hanseti-Ruska. A group immediately set out to chase the assailant, finding him at the gates of Valdev, where he swore that he would willingly face trial for his actions. Soon, the Prince of Valfleur, Paul Alexander, accompanied by a retinue of loyal Petrans, met with the new Lord Marshal of Haense where the situation was discussed, and the cooperation of Haense was promised. Now, the River Council calls forward the assailant for trial, to face justice for his actions within Petra, as he so promised to do.

FOR THE UNJUST MURDER WITHIN VALLAGNE, the River Council hereby summons the kha’pantera named Jest to face trial within the Petra for the murder of Kasin Zahdoc. The defendant will be granted three (3) Petran days to gather evidence to protect themselves, and to surrender themselves to the law of the Commonwealth of the Petra. Should they not, then measures of extradition shall be taken with the Kingdom of Hanseti-Ruska to see that justice is served for the breaking of the Petrine law.

SO IT IS ORDERED.

Sir Laurens Halcourt d'Artois, the Chanzlé of the Petra and Marquis du Clermont looked upon the missive and smiled, "Our Republic -- it's so glorious, Renilde." he commented, to his best friend @tilly.

The Prince of Valfleur, Paul Alexander of the Petra, bumped into the newly elected Mayor @Eryaneand offered warm congratulations with a bright countenance, "Now get to work for the Residents of Vallagne, Lady Mayor!"

The Marquis du Clermont, Sir Laurens, mumbles as he read the missive -- "That Sir Baldwin with his ailing health. . ."

The Marquis du Clermont, Sir Laurens Henri Halcourt d'Artois, the child's grandfather, jumped up and down, beaming with joy as he spoke to his wife, the Marquise-Consort du Clermont, Ceceliya, "Look! Mon amour, they told everyone about Lordling Henri!"

The Marquis du Clermont,Sir Laurens Halcourt d'Artois eyed the missive, sitting by the fireplace in Nouifelle Valenstrata, "I'm very proud of my good cousines!" he stated joyfully as he took a swig of Carrion Black.
