    It is a unique concept and could work, but I’d still fear the separation of the CT from the actual continent creates this “mineman hub” feeling that I - personally - do not feel belongs on the server. And honestly, I’d argue the fault here is the WT’s former idea that CT RP or CT interactions are a removable aspect from the server, and quite frankly, I am unsure as to why that thought was ever presented from the WT.

    I understand the wish and idea of moving RP away from the CT - and evidently that has been successful in the current map - but it is not like 50% or even 2 - 3% RP’s actively at the CT, imo it has never been an issue that prevents nations or smaller communities to flourish outside of CT. CT was useful to teach newer players of the RP mechanics in a safe and calm environment, somewhere with no PvP or villainy, yet still a living breathing part of the server itself. It does not feel like that anymore: It feels dead and irrelevant.

    Okay so there are 2 main reasons regarding why the idea of RP in CT was disliked.

    1st: In Arcas there was a lot of Spook RP taking place there abusing the whole "bubble of peace" thing cloud temple has to avoid consequences.

    2nd: There was actually a significant % of activity in CT something between 5% - 10%

    While I think Cloud Temple is a significant aspect of the server I don't think not having it on the map is necessarily a detriment. If Cloud Temple is not on the main continent it can still hold important things like the tutorial islands, the memory garden, as well as different bits & pieces of the server's history.

    The current Cloud Temple is something we don't like either, cloud temple next map will learn from the issues caused by the Minigame Lobby feel it has on Almaris.

    It seems... stupid? to force someone to play a CA character if they find out after the fact they don't enjoy playing that CA race. I can understand the wish from certain parties to enforce consequences/avoid retconning, but if someone really doesn't want to do something irp to the point that they try to get themselves lore blacklisted to get out of it, I think you should work with them to find a roleplay way out of the situation.

    The particular CA has a 2 week grace period where one can revert their decision. Sometimes there are things set in place to avoid things like a player finding out they don't enjoy this CA Race or a player realizing they didn't want to PK their persona. At no point has this player been told they are not allowed to look for options or a cure through RP. They simply did not want to. Going as far as to try to get themselves blacklisted from the lore to avoid Roleplay. It's a cheap thing.

    Story team is just doing their job by having it so a persona that has been a plant for over 40 RP years doesn't just simply revert back with no lore explanation as to how. It'd be like an Azdrazi just suddenly saying, nah, I don't want to be a dragonboi and going back to being a regular descendant with no lore approved method of doing that. While the server is a place players come to have fun you don't simply walk into a RP server and choose to follow the rules that favor you and ignore the ones that don't.

    Hopefully you guys build the next map with 1.18 in mind as the new Minecraft height and depth could really add some awesome verticality where I think LOTC has always lacked.

    Also I'm not sure if who is doing the world painting or if you're going to pay someone to make the next map but something I always struggled with when map making is taking into account the player's render distance and the limitation that visibility brings into making compelling environments.

    It's easy to get lost when you're in creative mode looking at the world from above with a render distance of 24 and you're able to see that mountain in the distance when in reality on the server a player won't be able to see anything until they're up close and instead just see an open field in front of them and the mountain isn't even rendered in.

    A lot of people here talk about having an Athera sized map but don't account the playeybase #'s that existed during Athera. Also the reality of it, is that it's really hard to actually create a compelling world that also feels balanced when it comes to nation positions in the world. 3.0 is a great example of what happens when you place a nation's capital as the first thing you run into on a long road to other nations. New player will simply get snatched up into that one city. If in LOTC there were just 4 cities for each race respectively it'd be simple but the reality isn't like this and so positional balancing becomes a nightmare.

    I'm not a player anymore but as someone who was heavily part of 7.0 and 8.0 map making process and being the one who did the terrain, forests, biomes, etc. for the map in WorldPainter I just enjoy the process. That being said some of my perspectives might be more removed from the current player experience.

    Again, It'd be really cool if you guys utilized the new height limits because they bring a lot of potential for verticality that LOTC has never really had. This can be hard to do in WorldPainter but in post with terrain manipulation plugins I think it could really add to the world overall. Also custom assets would be really useful as well for whoever makes the next map in WorldPainter. Things like custom trees and rocks can really add to the overall world.

    Good luck on the next map!

    One of the reasons we've waited this long to start development was to make sure 1.18 had the tools needed to tackle a project of the scale we wish to make this map for. Taking advantages of new features and blocks. Verticality is definitely something we'll be looking into.

    An initial read has me really intrigued and hopeful. I share your sentiment of Holy/Divine Magics could go a long way in the server if given the chance. I really enjoyed your writing and found myself wanting to read it again. I feel like if accepted this lore piece has the potential of creating many interesting opportunities and RP scenarios. I look forward to interacting with a cleric of the stag in game.

    In the wake of the return of Tahariae’s influence, the White Stag charged those who would serve him with three commandments - and so was woven into the firmament of the Light the task of severing the boons of those who would profane them.

    As soon as I read this I was a bit concerned. My opinions regarding lore written tenets pretty clear however I really like the way this piece addresses them with the following segment:

    19 hours ago, Valannor said:

    The tenets which Tahariae has laid are left to be interpreted by the adherents as a whole in-roleplay, and thus do not bind the individual adherent to them mechanically - that being said, all adherents would inherently know these commandments from the moment of their connection, and would feel naturally compelled to follow them. In the event that one believes their fellow adherent to have gone against the commandments, they may attempt to sever their ties to the Light - and strike it from them entirely, through the Rite of Severance.

    My only real concern with the disconnection ritual stems from this portion here:

    19 hours ago, Valannor said:

    Being disconnected consumes [2] of an individual's magic slots permanently, even should they be reconnected.

    As far as I know there is no other magic capable of doing this, but I'm not entirely sure what Taharie's domain or control over souls is in terms of power.

    21 hours ago, Valannor said:

    The definition of 'Impure' shall be defined as beings of darker origin or those who are fundamentally twisted and warped by dark, daemonic, or aberrant influences, such as the Nephilim of Azdromoth, Kharajyr and Hou-Zi,

    While I understand the presence of most of the creatures or magics listed as Impure the mention of daemonic, Hou-zi, and Kharajyr confuses me. (More so Hou-zi and Daemonic) The state of the soul of the others should be significantly worse than that of a Kharajyr. And as far as I was aware Hou-zi's souls were not manipulated by Metztli they are just smart monkeys. Regarding Daemonic influence, would this come from a hatred on behalf of Taharie on her daemon brothers and sisters? As far as I'm aware the title of aengul or daemon is not necessarily an equivalent of good and evil / holy and dark. Additionaly, wouldn't the curse ingrained by Ibless in the soul blueprints of every descendant have a similar signature to that of Metztli's meddling with a Kharajyr?

    I'll go over the rest of the piece and add comments as I read.

    Upon collision, it would explode in a blinding light 3x3m in radius, blinding those within that radius for a duration of [2] emotes and afflicting them with dizzying nausea - and upon Impure targets, this light would additionally inflict hallucinations and visions of the White Stag judging them for their sins, likely spurring some form of emotional distress.

    I feel like it might be important to include how this spell might affect Seers, would a seer flinch or be blinded as well? Could this spell be used to hunt seers & expose their ability to see leading to to their disconnection (?)

    [T3] Law of Remediation

     I feel like in this particular spell its important to redline how would this spell affect a dark mage / azdrazi, would they get healed as well? Or would the light of Taharie reject the subject its meant to heal. (I really don't want to see a Cleric healing a dragon just cuz they are their friend/lover.

    An individual may only have this spell cast upon them once an IRL day, necessitating multiple days to heal more severe injuries. Should an IRL week pass and the required number of sessions not been completed, the wound will reopen, and the damage to be expected will follow thereafter.

    What would happen if more than one cleric were to try and cast this spell on a patient? Would it simply not work? Would the light of Taharie harm them? What happens within the patient to reject this spell?

    [T3] Ward of Light

    A defensive veil, often used when leading the allies of Tahariae’s folk into battle against the Impure of the realm, first devised by the prophet Jakob in his service to the Stag centuries ago.

    I really like this spell there are only 3 questions that come to mind when I read it.

    1st: Would a physical attack of a dark mage be ignored as well? Or would the veil allow for example: a khor blade through?

    2nd: Would a creature created by dark magics feel any effects if they cross the barrier or stand within it? Or would the barrier keep them outside?

    21 hours ago, Valannor said:

    Requires [1 Connect + 1 Preparation + 1-3 additional Cast for enlarged Ward.] Lasts for a duration of [3] emotes, must be channeled and concentrated on to be maintained.

    3rd: Would the ward start working after the preparation emote? Would the duration start once the spell has been completed or as soon as the ward is set up?

    21 hours ago, Valannor said:

    [T4] Sight Beyond Sight

    Like this particular spell a lot, a small question comes up when I read it though. Are these visions something that can be conjured about anyone? Or does this require a cleric knowing the target is a dark mage or an "impure".

    22 hours ago, Valannor said:

    [T5] Final Oblation

    Can anyone be subject to being revived this way? Even people who die to PK clauses? (I know there is a list of cases in the redlines but I feel like there are some redlines missing)

    Tier Progression

    Might be useful to add clear bulletpoints or redlines to this segment, for example will it take 3 months / 12 weeks to reach T5 regardless of the not knowing any spells Are these spells something the cleric learns from a teacher? Or is the knowledge of them something they acquire through visions given to them by Taharie?

    Character's Original Race (N/A if not applicable):

             Remanent Kha [Kha'Tigrasi]

    Creator's MC Name:

             N/A

    Creator's RP Name:

             Metztli

    Briefly explain the lore behind this construct or creature:

    The Remnant Kha are a race of sentient (maybe not all of them) antropomorphic felines capable of speech and walking on two feet. Some of their main characteristics include a long tail, digitrade legs, sharp claws at the tip of their fingers and thick coats of fur. The Remnant Kha have four sub-species that include, Kha'Tigrasi, Kha'Pantera, Kha'Cheetarah and Kha'Leparda. Each of these resemble a existing species of big cats tigers, panthers, cheetahs and leopards (This particular application is for a Kha'Tigrasi).

    This race was born out of the selfish desires of a daemon hungry for someone to call her children. However with Metztli's mysterious death almost a century ago the number of existing Kha has began to dwindle, a fraction and a sad reflection of a once proud Civilization.

    If this construct or creature has some form of aesthetic choice, can you describe how they look?

    Syn is an uncommon sight, a relatively small kha'tigrasi, his pelt not as vibrant and thick as that of his brethren, a consequence of years spent in cage, transported by slavers. While he was still very young the slavers that took him blinded him, they said it was mercy, a way to save him from having to see the horrors of the realm.

  6. A dwarf would gaze into the fires in front of him as one of the recruits told him the news. "STONES TAKE T'EM STONES TAKE EM ALL!" he'd curse dissapointed as he threw a prototype for a new Arcane invention into the flames. The descandant of Urguan would stand there for a while, looking at the fire, thinking of Draakopf. Thinking of how dwarves had failed their Doomforged brother "We 'ave truleh failed, t'e ideals o' t'e Ulra' bullies 'ave taken over w'atever t'at abomination t'at calls etself t'e Grand Kingdom es. T'ey slay eac' ot'er, an t'ey drive out those who follow the old ways, they ignore the real threats and focus on playing a game of politics t'at makes em look loike umre' . T'a Obsidian T'rone needs a real dwarf carrying t'e weight o' t'e crown nae just muscle willeng tae s'ed t'a blood of 'is brot'ers and sisters indiscriminitely." then the khazadmar turned once more to face the recruit, an uncomonly cold expression taking over his face "Call 'im, sae et be urgent, sae we need o 'is wisdom now more than ever."  he'd instruct the recruit, sending him off towards the chambers of an ancient dwarf, grabbing a seed from his Ashwood Tree and planting it in the name of Draakopf "Mae t'e Brath look 'oighleh upon ye son o' Urir an mae t'is tree grow as big as yer dreams" He would look at the other Ashwood trees and with a grin he'd add. "A'll brew sum booze wort'eh o' yer foireh nature. A'll send et to yer clan as soon as et be done."

  7. As the Aureon Ranger returned home from the last expedition to the Hollow by Miven's side he'd go back to his duties. 'Tanila didn't give her life for us to mope and stop following the way.' He'd reason, trying to drown the guilt and urge to retreat into the broken husk within him. As the night fell the Wild Chief would train a newcomer, show them the ropes and thank Tanila for making that possible.

    unknown.png

    The next day the Aureon would be nowhere to be found for he had set out on a simple sailboat filled with different supplies. He left early in the morning, headed towards the Ironwood Grove he had been working on.  "I made you a promise sister. I will see it through. All Aureons will hear of you, your name shall be written in our songs. Your sacrifice and your wisdom shall be the pillars that keep strong the new generation." Thordir would put on his glove and start to plant the Hyssop seedlings around the Ironwood trees. "I will bring them home. They will know this place as Tanila's Respite. Narnsae ito iyl." He would then take out the Ironwood cutting and plant it by base of the largest mountains of the island it was the largest cutting he had ever seen, perhaps Tanila's Aureon sacrifice & spirit had blessed it. He got on the sailboat once more, headed back to the Vale, he'd look back at the island and smile. "Here, we will become Aureons. Here, we will become one of Elenwë. For Tanila"

    unknown.png

    After returning home from a long day at the Ironwood Isle setting up the foundation of what would become Tanila's Respite the Ranger would head back to the main square. "I need to see Valmir, there are things to do and I can't do  them like this." He'd say to the folk around him before heading towards the Arvellon's home.

  8. While I agree there need to be some downsides to atronach limbs I believe this new redline would contradict a bit some of the attributes of certain atronach limbs. (Telekinetic ones if I recall correctly are focused on providing strenght to their user so going from being as strong as an orc / olog to not being able to wield a two handed weapon)

    Golem Limbs

    - Replacement limb.

    - Made of stone.

    - Prone to brute force damage over piercing/slashing.

    - Strength of descendent.

    I would also say that Golem limbs should not be used to compare as suitable options for prosthetic limbs. There is no real advantage to them. A scratch to their sigil renders them useless, they weight as much as stone, once damaged you need to either make the new golem limb start from a higher position in the limb or find a new type of limb. Same strenght as a descendant.

    The Husk

    Chapter One: The decline

    unknown.png

    The smell of wild hare meat being burnt above an open flame would fill the breezy night air as the low roar of the fire would drown the muted noises of the sleeping nature around the Aureon Ranger. However, his mind would be absent, his once proud hunter morale nowhere to be found as he ignored the smell of perfectly good food being wasted.

    The former wild chief would stare into the fire, his hands idly fiddling with one of the toys he had carved out of Ironwood for his daughter Yae’ven. He’d stare at the wooden shrike and sigh. What was wrong? The mali had achieved many of his goals but he felt empty…

    A few seasons had passed since the last time he saw the mischievous grin of his daughter or was subject to one of the pranks planned by his wife. He was never one to smile much but back then he was happy, he felt whole, he had a purpose and a reason to keep going. That was no longer the case

    He’d stand up kicking some dirt towards the simple campfire and the now burnt hare meat. He was not hungry. He’d open the door to his new home, looking down towards the simple kitchen and the rooms meant for his family, the mali warrior would flinch, unable to head down there, that was not a home, it was but a husk of what it could’ve been. He would look at the wooden logs he had carved to make into a table, placing his cape over them and using it as a bed.

    That night his father’s voice came to him in his dreams,  "It was then when darkness itself, Iblees, stood tall for one last time, letting out a hateful laugh before saying: "You mortals believe you can simply banish me from this plane and that my taint shall not last? I have touched this world with evil and it shall forever be part of the souls that inhabit it." Iblees turned to face Malin and with a swift statement he said "MALIN, father of Elves! I curse you with sterility, you and your kin shall forever lack the children they need. May your forest halls forever be silent, and your hearts heavy with sadness."" and with that  Thordir woke up suddenly, sweating and looking towards the shadow. It was just a nightmare, a memory of his father telling him the tale of the four brothers, a kids tale. But those words struck deep, sending Thordir into a deep state of sadness as he tried to rest within his empty home.

  11. Hey guys, its me Soul breaking my silence on the subject. I haven't been able to reply much cuz I'm on a place with a funky internet connection. But there is something I wanted to say before I go back to my internetless break. I wish to publicly thank some of the members of the team that have made it possible to keep running for as long as it did. For their hard work & long service, for believing that LoTC could become a world that felt alive, with systems that allowed players to interact with it and immerse themselves into a fantasy world like no other. I invite every player to join me in thanking the following members of the team, who’ve dedicated a lot of effort and time to try and make things better for everyone on the server.

    @WestCarolina:

    Before I thank you I’d like to apologize, I thought together we’d be able to get the team on its feet but I was wrong. I feel like I’ve indirectly caused you several nights of no sleep as well as several days filled with stress as well as one or two admins yelling at you for my mistakes.

    For anyone who’s been living under a rock Carol has been the main force behind the World Team for the last few months, working tirelessly to try and bring a better experience for players in LoTC. Trying to motivate the team to build epic event sites, organizing different team projects, restructuring the team, coming up with some very cool initiatives, there are several things I could add to this list but this update would end up being posted in May instead of April as it's meant to be.

    I’m grateful you were always there to stand by my side when we had to make tough decisions together. I know that wherever you are going they would be lucky to have you working by their side and I can only hope I’m fortunate enough to be there working with you.

    @Hiebe:

    Hiebe has dedicated over 10 years of his life to LoTC; he might've started as a young man with a passion for RP and the drive to begin one of the first dwarven clans, however since the very beginning Hiebe showed an interest in implementing systems surrounding building & the economy. At first he did this as a player however, it didn’t take long for him to get interested in wanting to do much more for the server that he loved & enjoyed. He might have started as a forum moderator and a GM in 2011 but it's no secret that Hiebe has been working as a builder & as a map designer for the team for a long time.

    His dedication to the server is always present, despite being tired and having IRL on the way Hiebe stayed in World Team for the last year to train me & teach me the ropes, pass down to me anything I’d need to become his successor as the grumbling madman obsessed with economy systems. I am genuinely grateful I got the opportunity to work under you and later by your side. Thank you for trusting me to become a manager for the World Team. You deserve a break from the server after almost 11 years of working you ass off to make it more enjoyable.

    Ps. Your 120k yearly mina pension will be stored in a trust fund that baby Urguan will be able to access once he comes to claim his place as rightful ruler of the dwarves of Urguan.

    @Zindran:

    Zindran spent the better part of his tenure as a manager trying to fix and standardize a lot of systems surrounding activity, settlements & lairs. His drive was amazing and he was dedicated, some of the contributions he made to the team will help LoTC for years to come. He also managed to find the easiest ways to teach me how to do stuff so that’s always a big +1 in my eyes.

    @Disheartened:

    Alicia joined the team with a lot of great ideas and projects in mind, she played a crucial role in bringing a semblance of authority and independence to management from administration, allowing us to cut down wait times on processes like paste ins and map art. She demonstrated patience like no other and helped the team go through a very tough spot. We are genuinely thankful for her time as World Time Secretary and later as World Team Manager. It's a shame a lot of the projects & proposals you had didn’t get to happen, I hope with this new path staff is taking we can take back some of those initiatives.

    I apologize for all the stress you might’ve had while waiting on things to happen on the team. It's something I don’t wish on anyone.

    @Minth_11:

    I’m sure it doesn’t surprise anyone that Minth is mentioned in this list. Over the last year Minth has worked tirelessly to become a key player of the team. His desire to learn and understand every single bit of what the team did, his energy and patience and how he made himself approachable to anyone with a question or with need of help. Minth

    @z3m0s:

    While acting mainly behind the scenes, z3m0s played a crucial role in the development of many projects you see in the post above. The forever raging Australian Archmage would always be there, open to everything I had doubts on ranging from giving me feedback and pointing out anything he felt was not good for the server’s future or teaching me how to use some obscure set of commands that only someone with his experience & trajectory on the server would remember. You’d often find him playing with the systems and testing out any new proposals, being both fair & critical when time came to give his opinion.

    @BathRugMan & @Gamma:

    A build machine and the perfect team. If you were fortunate enough to barge into a VC while these 2 mad builders were working together you’d find yourself listening to them argue for hours, Gamma questioning an idea only Bathrug could possibly come up with and somehow together they’d manage to pull it off.

    After some sleepless nights and a lot of hard work Bathrug and Gamma have provided some epic builds, event sites, assets to the server. Trusted members of the team capable of pulling off what many would consider impossible.

    The Economy Team (aka Greedy dwarves):

    A group filled with greedy dwarven players with a passion for slapping their own bellies & driving Joel mad with suggestions only a dwarf could ever come up with & people genuinely interested in the server’s economy. I think that’s enough reason to thank the people there.

    The World Team as a whole:

    Thank you for all the hard work & dedication. For giving up your time, with the intention of making the server a better place. Sorry for all the pings & the amount of times we bugged you about following proper procedure. We hope whatever comes next for you is good. Sorry for not being able to do more for the team.

    Final words

    Finally, thanks to all the players who were patient and didn't blindly hated on us despite having to wait for some of their requests to get handled.
