Gaius was having a meeting with the other members of Fort Veritas force when he heard a desperate voice in the distance. "Unauspicious times are coming! The Gods are no longer with us!" was shouting an harbinger, spitting out all his voice. Everyone in the fort ceased his activity and went on the walls. They all saw the man covered with sweat and dust, thirsty and weak, as if he was bringing such a sad new that his life had lost every meaning. The gate was opened and the guards surrounded the guest forming a circle around him, as they were trained to do. Shoving the guards, Gaius, followed by Maximus, made his way through the narrow soldiers formation and stopped in front of the man. "Bring him some water, don't you see he is dying for you?" is what he said. After having thanked, the messanger began: "My Lords, Maximus, Jarl of fort Veritas, and Gaius, I have an unfortunate message to bring you, the worst I have ever carried and the more miserable my ears have ever heard". "Speak! Now! for God's sake, speak!" Maximus blurted back in anger. "Aye, I won't let you wait any more - he gave a sigh - Well, the King, the king is Dead". Gaius fell in a sombre silence, while everyone was talking loudly. The anxiety could be felt in the air all around the desert that the maniple of men had been defending for all Bastion 's Kingdom. Suddenly Gaius spoke, interrupting the others, he said slowly and quietly:"The King is dead, long live the king. We can't be glum for what happened, we don't have the time, but we must honour the king by making the reign shine like when he was alive." then he repeated but aloud "The king is dead, long live the king!".

His body was enduring of fasting, cold, sleeplessness, greater than is believable to anyone, his mind was bold, crafty, and various; the pretender and the concealer of anything at all seeking of another's property, squandering of his own and burning in his desires.
