Throughout the many years of my familial turmoil, I have put forth myself to keep this house afloat. The waves crash against our family’s reputation as we sail on the open continent of Almaris and set foot in Petrine Land, creating a place of sanctuary for our bloodline. With the death of my father and mother, the leadership of the family had fallen to my oldest brother; however, nearly a year after he completely disappeared, the succession of the family went to my older sister. Very unfortunately, she had fallen ill during the winter cold of the same year, an illness not able to be cured with known medicine. Another many years passed while I played Lady Regent, praying my dear sister would regain her strength to guide our house but praying was never enough. In desperate need, I consulted with my sister, and we both have made a decision that I shall be the matriarch of House Jazloviecki and the succession line shall follow my branch of this family, being passed to my children, followed by my children’s children. With this conclusion, I wish for The Commonwealth of Petra to honor this arrangement if anyone were to question the legitimacy of my hold on the House of Jazloviecki.

Ie Gisarmis

i. INTRODUCTION

Founded in the year 1882 by Paul Salvian, Ie Conse de Temesch et Esheve Moere, in the heat of the Orenian conflict, Ie Gesarmis (or the Pikes) were created as a means to protect the peoples of Temesch and the larger region of Mardon. The band of soldiers is founded on the principles of Temeschir culture, and therefore heavily engrain its words and honourifics with that of the Noufielle Esheve tongue. And while the band has vowed to defend the Mardonic peoples at large, they are tied to the Count of Temesch and his domain, and so bound to the word and laws of the Count, serving the Count of the highest authority of their ranks. 

ii. HIERARCHY

The levy loosely follows a classic militaristic structure as known from the Kingdom of Oren, having drawn its roots from the cultural Orenia. It is expected by the soldiers of lower rank to respect those of higher rank, and it frowned upon to act friendly amongst one's superiors. While largely seen as a band of brothers, Ie Gisarmis is created upon the concepts of respect and status.

VIEDE COMANDERRE (LORD COMMANDER) 

Viede Comanderre (or the Lord Commander) is the highest ranking member of the levy, second only to the Count of Temesch, and leads the daily functions of the band. 

LUTENANTS (LIEUTENANTS)

Lutenants (or Lieutenants) are the second highest position amongst the ranks of Ie Gisarmis, and serve as aides to the Viede Comanderre. There are typically no more than three Lutenants at one time. 

GISOUVRIERS (PIKEMEN)

The Gisouvriers (or Pikemen) serve as the bulk of the levy. They are the standardised soldiers of the band after having been elevated from their period of training. These are the most vital men for the strength and functionality of the levy.

TIRANTS (INITIATES)

Tirants (or Initiates) are the entry-level rank of the band and serve as a period of training until elevation to Gisouvrier. Tirants are typically assigned a Gisouvrier to shadow under their time of learning the ways of the levy. 

iii. DUTIES

Ie Gisarmis serves three main duties beneath the Count of Temesch

    i. To defend any and all peoples of the Mardonic region.

    ii. To fight at the behest of the Count of Temesch, and to be his champions in war.

    iii. To foster and raise militaristic talent amongst the peoples of Mardon. 

iv. ENLISTMENT

INTRODUCTION

As a young child and now a young man, I have often found myself wandering the Kingdom I was birthed into during the brother’s war, which saw our nation, families and people split apart merely because of the man they placed their loyalties with. More than a decade has passed and I feel our Kingdom has yet not healed from the short war.

I began this map merely as something to do with my free time, but the more I worked on it the more I wished for others to see it, convenient because the last published map was by the Duke of Reutov, Ivan Ruthern, two decades ago and Oren has changed much in that time. I find it hard to believe that my map will stay relevant for long! I will however make an effort to release updated versions as they become necessary.

Having used the old maps, written records and my own eyes and legs, I have attempted to draw the entirety of Oren and I hope everyone can appreciate it and put it to some good use. Attached is a brief guide to any travellers. I have taken much inspiration from Frederick Armas, his work of art is special to me as an amateur cartographer.

UPPER AND LOWER PETRA

Upper and Lower Petra is what Oren in ages past would have called the Crownlands. It consists of the shining jewel of Oren, Vienne and a few estates which are; Acre and Pompourelia, the other estates and castles are those that belong to the State, such as boarderport Aurelian and the Knight’s Estate, where the Knights of the Red Eagle gather for meetings and missions. The region is mostly free from crime, it is often patrolled as it is the highway that leads into Oren from Eastfleet, otherwise, there is a lack of culture, with a lack of a permanent civilian population. The weather in the region is fairly temperate, prepare for sunny days without too much rain or wind.

Vienne and Acre are total opposites, whereas Vienne embraces the burghers and merchants. Acre embraces the field. Culturally Vienne would be named Petrine, were it not for the other dozen cultures in the city. It really is a melting pot of cultures and even races, as the Elf or rare dwarf can be seen. Acre, which is managed by House de Vilain, on the other hand can be best described as Lodenlanders as the core group of Acrean settlers were from Blackvale, the culture is clearly diverting, turning into something unique and separate. Acreans value community, hard work and freedom.

Pompourelia is the not often used estate belonging to House Sarkozic. House Sarkozic has a long and involved history with Oren, most notably with Lord Protector Adrian and Emperor Joseph II who ruled with Anne I. Originating from the House of Carrion, Sarkozic has wandered from its Raev roots and embraced the Orenian ideals and culture, only in recent years has it made a turn. Sarkozic without a doubt is a house with a rich history

CATHALON

Cathalon is what remains of the Commonwealth of Kaedrin. The Kaedreni first settled in Redenford and when the management of Redenford failed the Kaedreni found homes elsewhere as is the norm for them. Today the Viscounty of Rivia, ruled by House Galbraith has claimed the Kaedreni heritage and formed a village and a strong levy to protect it.

Otherwise Guise, Huntshill, Susa and Cheval Hall are the remaining estates, each house old as the Kingdom they serve. Huntshill belongs to the family of the same name, they were granted their lands by Emperor Philip II, by virtue of their bith. When the Brother’s War broke out they sided with the Imperial faction and their lands were revoked, to be given out to a worthy peer. The estate remains untouched and reminds passer by’s of the famous architecture of old estate nobles, a style which is making its way out today.

North of Huntshill is Guise, which was granted to Conrad Armande de Falstaff, former Chancellor of Oren. Granted for services rendered to the Empire, naturally. The culture of Guise is Savoyardic, with a white-terracotta castle built on top of a hill and a few humble abodes below.

Going south again we come to Susa, the home of the Basrids. Founded by Simon Basird, Archchancellor of the Holy Orenian Empire in 1739 to 1783. An important figure in our history. Many great statesmen and generals have come from this house, today for example Aleksander Basrid serves as Knight Paramount, heading the Order of the Red Eagle.

To the Duchy of Cathalon or Cheval Hall we will end this chapter. Cheval Hall is the home of House Helvets, a house which has endured through generations of strife as humble peers and Kings. Today the Helvetii are the dukes of Cathalon, a title inherited from their time as the Kings of Kaedrin. One may believe that the Helvetii are Kaedreni, they have infact wandered alike to the Sarkozy. Today they are more comparable to the Petrine. Enjoying a comfortable life in a massive marble fortress of their own making.

ARENTANIA

Consisting mostly of mountainous ranges and dangerous wildlife, despite this many Orenian peers have explored the region and made it their home. While there is a lack of people in the region, it is primarily Petrine as the region is used for non-permanent housing by the likes of Aldersberg, Azor and Puremont. The estates are similar to that of Huntshill, following the summer estate style, where beauty is prioritized over defence. Just before approaching Aldersberg is Felder’s Rock a massive fortress-Cathedral constructed by the Lectors of Owyn, a monastic brotherhood devoted to the Owynist rite.

In southern Arentania lies the March of Grodno, a fortress where defence is prioritized over beauty, in spite of this the fortress is hospitable, it has housing and a tavern for the Lechians to spend their free time in. Lechians are similar to the Raev, but have a distinctive language and culture, the two cultures are similar but not the same.

Going far north we find ourselves at the County of Halstaig in the lands of the o’Rourke’s, former statesmen of the Empire, yet today the o’Rourke’s have made themselves sparse, their last political position to my own knowledge being that of the Inquisition, which today I believe is nonexistent after the death of Countess Theodosia. What makes the house unique is their culture, which is Adunian a rarity in these days, they dress spartan and for the climate rather than what the court deems fashionable.

OLTREMONT

The western part of the Kingdom, it is without life as its only structures are old decaying forts, like that of Fort Alba, which decades past belonged to a self-declared Alstion lord, it did not take long for the then Empire to annex the lands. The only lands where life is found is in Castile, a fairly humble with a castle and thatch houses dotted around the lands, it also sports a small chapel, where the Castiles and common population are able to celebrate sacraments in their own lands.

To the far south of Oltremont lies the Komnenos Mining company, further south Yong Ping and Rozania, both independent nations who have passed from relevancy.

THE VALE

Before the decline of the Empire the Vale was a prosperous region which the former Archchancellor Minuvas had founded from the ground up. It became his very own kingdom to rule as Humans rarely ventured too far into the region. However Minuvas would spark hostilities with the rest of Elvenkind (politics beyond my understanding) during the Brother’s War and all of Elvenkind fled from the region onto better prospects. All of the cities and fortresses remain untouched by Humanity.

Who is to say that new Elves will replace the void or that even ambitious Humans will dare to venture into Malin’s forest.

GRENZ

The last region within the Kingdom, it is not the richest in wealth, but the richest in culture without a doubt. It has housed the people of Dobrov and New Esbec, both villages with unique cultures and a strong history, both today only living in our memories. Today estates dot the region, its last proper township being Arichsdorf which died abruptly when its heretical Marcher Lord, Manfred mysteriously disappeared. Arichsdorf’s culture was a mix of Waldenian and Norlandic, as many of its people had come from the north with Manfred. The only village remaining in the Grenz is Mardon, a place sadly without much life, but one with fantastic architecture.

Around Mardon is; Castle Garmont, Temesch, Provins, Chateau d’Aigullon, Minitz and the Foltest Monastery. Garmont was constructed as the personal keep of King Frederick I, prior to his ascension to the throne, today I believe it remains without a lord. Provins once belonged to House Pruvia, it now belongs to House de Rosius, an auvergnian family with long ties to politics and Redenford, as its managers.

Temesch Hall belongs to the family of the same name Temesch et Moere, its culture is fairly unique as it finds itself tied to two rare cultures; Rhenyari and Savoyard. Something Temesch is prideful of. It is a house of statesmen and academics, most recently the Count has re-established the very associating I am writing this for!

The Viscounty of Minitz is an oddity in Oren, it was founded by Reinmaren settlers of Barclay descent. Its government is what makes it odd, it is that of feudal and tribal. Casting away their feudal bonds in favor of a simpler tribal society. Which makes the viscounty fairly unorganized, but promotes community.

Further south Chateau d’Aigullon is a manor which belongs to the House Halcourt d’Artois a Auvergnian family, it is the foremost in court fashion and foodstuffs. They have served Oren in many different ways since the second Empire, as ministers and commanders. The Halcourt bloodline has intermingled with that of Ashford, Staunton and Hightower.

The IMPERIAL AND ROYAL BROTHERHOOD OF SAINT PONTIFF EVERARD IV, or the ORENIAN ASSOCIATION OF SOLICITORS, HISTORIANS, AND PHILOSOPHERS, is the governing body of lawyers, educators, and authors throughout the varied iterations of the Orenian tradition, historically responsible for the certification of solicitors, attorneys, and professors of history and law. In the modern day, its membership is instead granted by nomination to those members of Orenian society that have been noted for their achievements or intellectual acumen.

All members of the brotherhood are recognized by the traditional ‘SSE’ after their names, a relic of the ancient Society of Saint Everard from which it claims descent. Founded by the scholar-king Edward von Herendul in 1485, they were originally tasked in preventing the loss of history following the chaotic falls of the Chivay and Carrion regimes, where pogroms against rival faiths and peoples led to mass destruction. Book burnings, killing of learned men, and the destruction of ancient relics were commonplace, and even after, the conflicting ambitions of humanity has led to countless tragedies in the wanton chaos.

The brotherhood takes its name from doubly the ancient Saint Everard, a stalwart defender of the Church and learning from the luddite Sheffield monarchy, and the more modern Saint Pontiff Everard IV, champion of learning and erudite thinking. Its styling, Imperial and Royal, is indicative of its existence as a staple of Orenian tradition regardless of the nation's status, imperial or royal. Previous iterations of the Brotherhood have included the Imperial Everardine College, the Imperial Association of Saint Pontiff Everard IV, and, of course, the Society of Saint Everard.

MEMBERS OF OUR BROTHERHOOD, or the Royal Bar, are those individuals granted by royal declaration or internal nomination certification as historians, educators, philosophers, or, historically, solicitors. Largely unrelated to individual achievements, the award has historically been correlated to the intellectual circles and affairs otherwise of the Orenian state - its brothers often serving in advisory or otherwise bureaucratic positions within the nation - as well as those families that have historically served within its government. Uniquely, membership has even been extended to extranational humans of renown, and while it may not be declined, one may withdraw from the Brotherhood at will.

As time goes on land changes, and as such, new maps must be made. As the King's Road was constructed I knew, that new map must be made, to show the glory of the new Lower Petra and show all subjects of the Kingdom of Oren. The following map is a gift to Frederick I, for he showed me mercy and gave me a chance to redeem myself, so I shall make maps for his lands to show that I shall not waste the chance I have been given.

The Heraldry and subsequent family in which their arms represent, which are detailed in this Roll do not possess any landed peerage and are simply gentle or even common in standing, with the exception of House Galbraith of course. This particular Roll of Arms details the collected arms and heraldry of the families currently residing within or nearby the Viscounty of Rivia. While it is of course not fully representative of every family within the Viscounty it details the more prominent and notable of the residential families.

As years have passed and dust of conflict has settled I, having returned to Oren saw a need for a new map to be made as the ones of old speak only of the Holy Orenian Empire. So I set out to show the might of the Kingdom and its vast lands to all. As such here today I present the map of the Kingdom of Oren and the Map of the Kingdom of Oren with its regions. For what a better way to celebrate a decade passing of the Kingdoms rule.

An old crossing stood before him, though its picket-sign was newly replaced; the beginning of a highway, where once stood unmarked footpaths. To Ebonwood; it cried to be explored. A journey for another time, for the young man was weary from the year's travels already. He had time, though, to pause at the watering hole; a campsite of misplaced milk farmers, their fields salted years ago by Sedanites, the nobility too embattled to pay foreign drui to heal their ruined lands.

Cloaked in a plain brown cape, its shape contorting around the sheath of a far finer blade, his tanned skin and rust-colored hair seemed misplaced among the pale folke of the refugee camp; indeed its combination would be misplaced anywhere in Almaris. He pulled from indigo-dyed pockets the letters he carried with him; of Fealty, and of Independence. Moere, warm and coastal, had never wanted for much - a small lakeside village of five raised into a county for a political game the boy had no part in playing. The land, beautiful but infertile, could host little more; yet he had remained there dutifully all the same, bound by oath to cousins that hated his mother, fishing, drinking, lazing about - for the invaders that had so crippled the rest of that Principality had left his Moere alone, the single young man more than enough to fend off the the odd coyote.

Yet now he was released, and his father had called for him. He oft wondered after his siblings - he had left home at the age of five, when they were yet whelps cradled in their shared mother's bosom. A brother and a sister he had never met, a keep he never cared to visit, a city he remembered only by the dizzying array of colors plastered onto its walls and the stench that so very often accompanied large settlements.

Perhaps home could wait. His steps led him into the Pale.
