OOC:
Hello all. Yep, another story I felt like writing while I was a bit in the mood. I have to admit, maybe not quite my best work, but it starts to get better towards the end I think. Anyway, if anyone is new to this whole thing, this is just a story I wrote detailing a bit of the progression in my character Merek. As far as replying, you get to choose how you want to respond, whether it be OOC or IC. Either is fine for me. I hope you all enjoy!~ And as always, I include a little music to help top off the whole thing. :)

A light snow begins to fall from the clouds as night begins to fall over the mountains of the wilds. Untamed evergreen forests sprawl across the lands and the moon hangs high in the sky. The titanic mountain stands as a monstrous reminder of how small they seemed. Of how small the undead seemed to the world, but no one can forget their presence. At the side of a precipice a light can be seen. Metal iron bars keep all things from escaping the gates of this large stone entrance. Brick stacked upon one another seem to jut out from the mountain’s side near ground level. A silhouette of a large man spreads across the forest floor that has been illuminated by the fire of torches coming from inside the base. A low creaking noise starts to reverberate throughout the forest as the iron metal gate slowly rises from its resting place.

Slowly the silhouette starts to stride out from the gates, into the cold unforgiving forests ahead. The silhouette turns for a moment to look back into the stone tunnel that was behind him, towards the warm fire, towards safety. Merek scowls as his brows lower; he turns back to face the endless darkness and terror of the night. The forest's noises surround him as the sound of crickets and animals make the night alive. The snow starts to compact and crunch as Merek slowly strides under the vast amounts of pine trees. He knows why he walks out here, he knows what is waiting.

Merek's ears perk slightly as a strange dragging noise is heard from a nearby bush. A monstrosity emerges from the bush, Merek immediately darts his eyes to examine the beast. It's an empty body, a person risen from the dead. One of its eyes seem to have rotten away and its skin seems rotten with decay. Merek stops to stare in utter anger and hatred as he sees the approaching zombie.

"What a loathsome creature," Merek thought in disgust.

Slowly from behind the creature a mob of the dead ones began to emerge. Rotting flesh and hanging organs are seen within the fray of corpses. Gutteral screams and moans begin to echo throughout the forest as various birds begin to flee in terror throughout the night sky. Skeletal beings that have rotted away long since their death continue to walk by insidious power. Soon Merek realizes he is completely surrounded by the horde of undead creatures. Merek only looks down at the floor as his long black hair covers his face, a brooding darkness starts to overwhelm him.

"These creatures come for my blood.. For my soul." Merek began to think as he continues to stare at the icy ground beneath his feat. The way he thinks is slow and brooding.

"I wonder how many of these things could have been one of the people I've killed in my lifetime..." He ponders.

Within a moment it seems the creatures of the night swarm upon Merek, but unlike their usual prey, this one has been here before. Merek quickly pulls out both of his dual one-sided steel battleaxes as they glisten in the moonlight. Snow flies up like puffs of clouds after the man rapidly slid his leg across the icy ground. He begins to systematically lodge his axes into organs and arms, into legs then heads. He begins to gracefully swing his right battleaxe as it comes down with force unto the head of one of the monsters. Blood splatters across Merek's face as he continues to stare on with rage in his eyes. All around him the monsters continue to swarm, but despite them Merek continues to chop and swing. It would seem that anything that comes near this large man comes tumbling down within moments, the ferocity, force and speed of the man far outmatching the skills any undead could muster.

"Look at what has become of me! Look at the mark you've laid down in my heart! Look at the blood you've spilled! How could you let them leave me! How could you create such darkness? Why did you have to bring this unto me? I never wanted to be this kind of prisoner of darkness! I never wanted such defilement. You can never stop this rage now!" screams Merek from deep within his rage-filled corners of his mind. The echo of his thoughts begin to bounce and twirl within his mind as they continue to blind Merek from pain. Until the thoughts bounce and reverberate deep into his bones, deep into his muscles. These thoughts of anger and contempt fuel him in his deadly task.

Now as it was before, he was still only one man. Despite Merek's seemingly invincible presence amongst the hordes of death, he could only do so much. Merek is seized from behind by a creature, it attempting to gnaw through the leather uniform of Vigilant Steel. Quickly the rage-filled man pulls the creature from behind him and throws him onto the ground before him. Merek's battleaxe rises swiftly into the air and comes down with all the brute strength of a man filled with anger and hatred, who has lived a life of servitude to see all that he cared about fall before him. The creature's skull comes smashing down, crushing like a pumpkin.

He quickly looked up, but it was too late now. An arrow comes flying from the distance, plunging deep into Merek's chest. Blood flies into the air upon impact as Merek screams in pain. Merek falls from his position of standing on one knee and flies flat on his back. Despite his brief moment on the ground, the color of crimson covers the white canvas of snow under Merek's armor. Even through the pain Merek manages to pull himself up on his elbows and finally to his knees before entirely standing up. He raises his hand to his chest and grabs hold of the shaft of the iron arrow that has delved deep into his torso. With a momentous grunt he manages to break the shaft and throw it to the ground beside him. He looks into the sky as his ever-depleting blood begins to boil within him. Merek lets out a rage-filled roar as he stares angrily up at the moon, as if he means challenge it, as if he lays blame upon whoever is watching. After another moment he begins to feel woozy. The image of a skeleton begins to blur within his vision as he stares forward, a brooding form of hatred boiling within his blood. Insanity beginning to take hold of him.

Despite this he began to run. Nothing could deny how much Merek had failed to kill all he could find. Merek woozily began to run from the creatures of the night as howling and moaning echoes within his ears. The snow dazed and images swayed as Merek could no longer stand it anymore. The ground makes impact as Merek falls face first into the snow, his chest aching in agony. He slowly begins to crawl as he makes way for the light of the Vigilant Steel base.

"Look at what you did to me..." Merek thinks as he woozily flips onto his back just within the tunnel of the base's entrance. "How could I do this to myself? I killed those people and I failed twice more... I promised more than I could ever provide. Now everyone is gone and all promises broken. What am I? I've become a monster." Merek grieved as it bounced within his mind once again.

Slowly Merek begins to close his eyes, blood pooling around him again as the crimson races amongst the stone floor. "Come now... See what I've become."
